Abstract: | Circular, aluminum rings were subjected to radial impulsive loading by curved magnetically driven aluminum flyer plates. The pressure magnitude varied cosinusoidally and acted over half the ring circumference. The pulse duration for the 12-mil-thick aluminum flyer plates used is less than 0.2 μsec. Strain-time histories at several locations in the ring were recorded on oscilloscopes and are shown to compare favorably with a previously published theoretical analysis. |
