Abstract:Using the 6-h reanalysis data of ECMWF(European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts)ERA-Interim with horizontal resolution of 0.25°×0.25°and hourly typhoon operational data provided by National Meteorological Center,the track and intensity characteristics of typhoon HIGOS(2020)and the reasons for its rapid offshore strengthening are analyzed.The results are listed as follows.1)The small size of Typhoon HIGOS,abnormally high sea surface temperature,and small vertical wind shear are favorable factors for the rapid strengthening of Typhoon HIGOS.2)The high-altitude cold vortex is the favorable condition for the opening of northward upper air outflow in the latter period of Typhoon HIGOS.3)The transport of water vapor and vorticity by the easterly flow from the south of the subtropical high to Typhoon HIGOS is also the favorable condition for the rapid offshore strengthening.
