Abstract:Magnetic fluid has the properties of magnetism of solid matter and fluidity of liquid,and has no intrinsic coercive force,no remanence,fast response to magnetic field and high sensitivity.A optical current sensor was achieved based on magnetic-fluid coated microfiber Sagnac loop by the combination of the special optical transmission properties of microfiber Sagnac loop and the unique magnetic and optical properties of magnetic fluid.The mechanism of current sensing was theoretically deduced,the packaging method of the sensor was designed,and the temperature characteristics and sensing characteristics of the sensor were experimentally studied.The experimental results show that the sensitivity of temperature response is about 3 pm/℃,the sensitivity of current response is 0.00218 V/A,the linear correlation coefficient of current response is 0.9979.Compared with the traditional optical fiber current sensor,it has the advantages of simple fabrication process,small size,high temperature stability,low transmission loss and easy coupling with optical fiber devices.
