Abstract:A hydrogel with semi-interpenetrating networks(semi-IPN) composed of polyacrylamide and carboxymethylcellulose sodium(PAAm/CMC) was synthesized by a cross-linking co-polymerization route in the presence of N,N-methylene bisacrylamide(N,N-MBA) and potassium persulfate(KPS).The infrared spectra(FT-IR) and were adopted to characterize the structure of PAAm/CMC-Ag nanocomposite hydrogels.UV-vis studies apparently showed the characteristic surface plasmon band was situated at 450 nm due to existence of Ag nanoparticles within the hydrogel matrix.The swelling kinetics investigations demonstrated that the equilibrium swelling(Qe) of the PAAm/CMC-Ag nanocomposite hydrogels depended on the content of the CMC,and the Qe values were reduced with increasing the CMC contents,which was in agreement with maximal theoretical water contents S∞ fitted by swelling kinetic data.The swelling mechanism belonged to a non-Fickian mode for the PAAm/CMC-Ag nanocomposite hydrogels.
