Abstract: | l-Asparagine thiourea monohydrate (LATM) single crystal has been successfully grown (size 15 × 10 × 3 mm3) by slow evaporation solution growth technique. To the best of our knowledge this is the first report to the literature. The grown crystal was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic analysis. The UV-Vis transmittance spectrum shows that the material has wide optical transparency in the entire visible region. The relative second harmonic generation was confirmed by Kurtz powder technique. The mechanical properties have been studied using Vickers microhardness tester. The birefringence of the crystal was measured in the visible region and it was found to vary with the wavelength. |
