Abstract: | In brief Exercising regularly can have important benefits for older adults with diabetes, including improving insulin sensitivity and cardiovascular fitness. When embarking on a new exercise program, all older diabetic patients should seek the help of health professionals who can determine an appropriate and safe regimen. Special precautions should be taken to lower the risk of developing exercise-induced hypoglycemia or injury due to neuropathy or retinopathy. However, the psychological and physiologic benefits of a regular exercise routine far outweigh any risk to the older person who has diabetes. |
