Clinical study on the replacing time of closed thoracic drainage fluid and thoracic infection

Objective To investigate whether the replacing time of closed thoracic drainage fluid is related to thoracic infection,in order to provide scientific basis for accurate nursing of the closed thoracic drainage tube.Methods 175 patients with closed thoracic drainage were divided into 3 groups.The drainage fluid was replaced every day in the group A,every 3 days in the group B,and every 5 days in the group C.The drainage fluid and 2 cm at the front of the thoracic drainage tube were kept for bacterial culture and comparison during the replacement and extubation.Results 9 kinds of bacteria were found from 15 cases in drainage fluid,8 cases in the group A,5 cases in the group B,and 2 cases in the group C.The difference of bacteria positive percent among the 3 groups was not significantly(P>0.05).Bacteria were found at the front of the chest tube of 3 cases,2 cases in the group A and 1 case in the group B,while others were negative(P>0.05).Conclusion The replacing time of drainage fluid and thoracic infection has no direct correlation,that drainage fluid changed everyday does not reduce the opportunity of bacteria colonization.Extending the duration of replacement do not either increase the risk of thoracic infection,while it can save medical resources and reduce economic burden of patients and workload of the nurse.
