The concept of real scene maps is introduced ,and the cognition process and cognition effect of real scene maps are discussed .Real scene maps follow the general process of map cognition ,but the ex perienced sense process conforms to human vision and memory habits .The position cognition effect of real scene maps is poor ,and the direction cognition effect is common ,w hile the distance cognition effect and the object cognition effect are better .Compared with 2D electronic maps and virtual geographic environment ,real scene maps have advantages in realness ,information quantity and sense level ,but have obvious disadvantages in visual angle and space sense .The cognition effect of spatial pattern such as position , distance and direction is better for 2D electronic map ,w hile the cognition effect of spatial object such as target and shape is better for 3D electronic map .
