A New Method of Image Symmetry Detection Based on Phase Information

In this paper, a new method of image symmetry detection is introduced. Instead of gradient information, it uses phase information of original image. Because of phase information's stability and significance, this method is fairly robust, that is, it is invariant to illuminate, contrast, and rotation. It can detect mirror symmetry, rotating symmetry and curve symmetry at the same time. And it needs not any preprocessing, such as segmentation. The experiments show that this method's effectiveness and robustness.
