An applied research of electret method in the measurement of Radon exhalation rate of buiding materials

Abstract:Objective:To study the method of measuring Radon exhalation from building materials by electret Radon detector.Methods:A special sealed box for the measurement of Radon exhalation of building materials was designed and manufactured.The electret Radon detector and the samples of building materials were put into the box and were sealed.The accumulated measurement was conducted in different time quantum.And a Radon continuous detector was connected with the exterior of sealed box by series connection,and it was used to measure the Radon concentration inside of sealed box at the same time.The difference and influence factor of measured result of Radon exhalation rate between electret method and continuous measurement method were analyzed and compared through measured and calculated the accumulated Radon concentration inside of the sealed box.Results:The relative percentage deviation between the results of electret measurement of each accumulated time quantum and the results of continuous measurement was from 9.24%to 28.8%.The percentage deviation between the measured results of electret method within 24 hours and that of continuous method was the smallest,and the relative percentage deviation was 9.24%.Conclusion:Electret method can be used to measure Radon exhalation of building materials,and it has the advantages of convenient arrangement and simple measurement in field measurement with short period.
