Abstract:As the energy consumption in residential areas keeps growing, distributed generations (DGs) such as roof-top photovoltaic and small wind turbines are gradually implemented in residential areas in order to reduce energy costs. Due to the inefficiency in DG utilizations and the lack of effective energy management devices at present, a home energy management system based on electric power router is proposed, whose core is an electric power router with functions of plug-and-play and power conversion. It is equipped with AC and DC buses, so various power sources within the system can provide energy in coordination. Under an efficient energy scheduling strategy, this system enables load scheduling according to the priorities of household appliances, thus reducing the total electricity cost. A hardware experimental platform was set up, and experimental results show that the electric power router can realize seamless switching between different operating modes. The corresponding load scheduling strategy can improve the utilization of DGs, reduce the utility power consumption, and guarantee the economy and stability of system operation.
