Abstract: | The factors influencing roof design with respect to energy conservation are surveyed. In particular low-pitched (~15° inclination) roofs have been shown to possess thermal insulation advantages. Thus relatively low-pitched, northerly facing roofs, together with 61° pitch (i.e. the optimal inclination of plane, solar-energy collectors for maximum winter gain in UK latitudes) southerly facing roofs will probably become more commonplace. |
