ObjectiveTodiscusstheonset,preventionandtreatmentofcornealcomplicationsaftercataractextractionbyphacoemulsification(PE).MethodsIn196eyesthatunderwentopticphacoemulsification,theeffectsoftheoperationonthecornealendothelium,cornealposteriorelasticlayer,cornealpropriaandincisionwerestudied.Results55.10%postoperativecomplicationswereendotheliallinearcloudiness,8.16%wereendothelialpunctateandalopeciacloudiness,18.37%stromaldiffuseedema,5%endothelialdecompensation.Reducingtheintraocularpressureandusingsteroidsandcytotrophycouldrelievethecomplications.ConclusionThefourlatentdamagingfactorsofphacoemulsificationarethemaincausesforthecomplications,inadditiontotheimproperchoiceofcasesandincorrectoperation.Inordertoavoidandreducecornealcomplications,thehospitalsshouldtakeprimary,basicmeasuresandpayattentionespeciallytothechoiceofcases.
