Abstract:Porduction of fuel ethanol using abundant lignocellulose material would favour alleviating energy shortage and environment pollution,also sustainable developement.However,some physio-chemical structural and compositional factors hindered the enzymatic digestibility or utilization of cellulose and hemicellulose present in lignocellulosic biomass.The pretreatment methods caused physical and/or chemical changes in biomass.The goal of pretreatment technology was to alter or remove structural and compositional impediments to hydrolysis in order to improve the rate of enzyme hydrolysis and increase yields of fermentable sugars from cellulose or hemicellulose.The advances of pretreatment technologies for fuel ethanol biological conversion from lignocellulose were reviewed including process parameters and their fundamental modes of action,and the trend of future development was aslo prospected.
