| Abstract: | Objective:P16 gene appears to be a good candidate for a tumor suppressor gene encoding a cyclin dependent kinase inhibitor and was reported in various tumor cell lines, but only a few papers described directly for its occurence in lung cancer patients.Methods:Homozygous deletion of the p16 gene was determined in 62 patients with NSCLC, including 37 squamous carcinomas, 16 adenocarcinomas and 9 squamous adenoid carcinomas, using primers to amplify exon 2 of p16 gene by PCR. Results:The homozygous deletion of p16 gene was observed in 18 of the 62 cases.Conclusions:It was suggested that homozygous deletion of the p16 gene may be associated with the carcinogenesis and tumor progression of a subset of NSCLC. |
