庚款留美发端考--梁诚首倡庚款留美计划的历史考察

长期以来,美国退还部分庚款用于培养赴美中国留学生的起因,一直众说纷纭,而庚款退还及庚款留美的真正倡议人梁诚及其重要作用,却被人们所忽视.事实上,推动庚款留学计划成为现实的最初努力,正是来自这位晚清的留美幼童.通过考证,明确了梁诚首倡以庚款兴学方式实现美国退还多余部分庚款的历史事实,阐释了梁诚在这一历史事件中的重要作用.

Sending Students to America by Utilizing the Boxer Indemnity Refund: Historical Investigations on the Plan Initiated by Liang Cheng

The reasons why America refunded some of the Boxer Indemnity and used it for sending Chinese students to America have been varied for a long time,however,Liang Cheng ,the real advocate of the issue and his important role were ignored to some extent.In fact,it was just Liang's initial efforts that turned the plan of sending students to America using the refunded Boxer Indemnity from America into reality in late Qing Dynasty.This paper investigates the historical facts of the issue,and expounds on Liang Cheng's important role in this historical event.
