The Steps to Respect Program in the United States and Its Implications for Prevention and Intervention of School Bullying

The prevention and control of school bullying has been an important issue in education practice in China.Steps to Respect(STR)is a school bullying prevention and intervention program developed by the Committee for Children in the United States.Based on the social-ecological model,the program integrates the social emotional learning framework and designs preventive strategies at school,class and individual levels.Existing research revealed that STR was effective in decreasing bullying and victimization incidents,and improving anti-bullying attitudes and beliefs.This paper introduced the design rational,main strategies and effectiveness of STR,discussed its advantages and disadvantages,and implications for school bullying prevention and intervention in China.
