Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is the most common surgical procedure for patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). DBS has been shown to have a positive effect on PD symptoms; however, its specific effects on motor control are not yet understood. We introduce the novel use of a wrist robot in studying the effects of stimulation on motor performance and learning. We present results from patients performing reaching movements in a null field and in a force field with and without stimulation. We discuss special cases where robotic testing reveals otherwise undiagnosed impairments, and where clinical scores and robot-based scores display opposing trends. 相似文献

AbstractThe present paper presents the experimental studies on the treatment of Ti–6Al–4V using conventional and ultrasonic deep cold rolling (CDCR and UDCR) processes. The UDCR process is a novel technique in which the ultrasonic technology was incorporated into the concept of the CDCR process, which enables use of superimposed dynamic forces onto considerably reduced static forces applied on a part surface during treatments by UDCR. Considerable improvements in surface topography and near surface characteristics of treated material were achieved in the present study. Both processes exhibited comparable results in surface finish and induced compressive residual stresses, while the UDCR process produced superior results than the CDCR process in work hardening. The investigations suggest that the UDCR process could provide technological benefits for the treatment of thin walled aerospace components to be carried out without geometry distortion, which would lead to improved fatigue life and resistance to failure mechanisms. 相似文献

In this study, economic analysis of different configurations of combined power and water systems is performed using DEEP software. Three different desalination systems including reverse osmosis (RO), multi-effect desalination (MED) and multi-stage flash (MSF) coupled to a gas turbine power plant with 2?×?165.1?MW capacity are considered and analysed. A specific capacity of 50,000?m3/day is assumed for all desalination systems. The results indicate that the RO system has the lowest simple payback time, while MED has the highest thermal utilisation. In terms of levelised cost of water, the RO system has the lowest amount with 1.03?$/(m3/day), while levelised cost of water for MED and MSF are equal to 1.47 and 1.93?$/(m3/day), respectively. Also sensitivity analysis showed that the fuel cost is the most effective parameter on the levelised cost of water. In general, it can be concluded that the RO system is the best choice in terms of economics. 相似文献

AbstractThere is little experimental knowledge about the initial state of through thickness residual stresses in rolls and sleeves for the steel rolling industry. This is surprising bearing in mind the impact that residual stress has on the performance of the roll and sleeve materials in the highly aggressive loading environments of the metal working industry. Previous work has been confined to measurement of very near surface residual stresses and numerical predictions of residual stress distributions. In the present paper through thickness residual stress measurements were carried out using a deep hole drilling technique on a series of rolls and sleeves representative of those used in the rolling industry. Different features of the manufacturing processes used in their production are shown to influence the magnitude and distribution of the residual stresses. It is also shown that the measurements can be used, together with a finite element analysis, to determine the volumetric distribution of the residual stresses. 相似文献

AbstractThis study compares different approaches in modelling the earing phenomenon and hardness of cups in deep drawing process. The blank holder force (BHF), annealing temperature and annealing time of blanks before deep drawing process have been chosen as the three influential parameters on the earing and hardness. To obtain mathematical models for the earing and hardness of the deep drawn cups, the methodology of artificial neural networks have been used. Bayesian network, radial basis function network, Gaussian processes and multilayer perceptron are four different ANN approaches that have been used for the modelling. The research has been conducted on a cold rolled Al–Fe–Si (AA8011A) aluminium sheet. After obtaining the mathematical models describing the influence of BHF and annealing on hardness and earing, a comparison of the proposed models has been performed. A search for the optimal parameters of deep drawing process has been carried out. 相似文献
