The present paper reports on the inaugural meeting of the Mental Health Special Interest Research Group (SIRG) of the International Association for the Scientific study of Intellectual disability which was held at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, UK, in March 1998. The meeting was organized in conjunction with the Ninth Annual SIRG on ageing and intellectual disability. Representatives from North America, several European and Scandinavian countries, Australia, and Israel attended. Two broad themes had been determined prior to the meeting: ‘Improving the detection of mental health problems’ and ‘Research strategies for identifying risk factors for mental health problems’. In the presentations and subsequent discussions, it was apparent that there were extrenely diverse perspectives both across and within the different countries represented. Not only were individuals' experiences very different, but most strikingly, the theoretical frameworks were very diverse. This was partly a function of there being understandable differences in perspectives across disciplines, but at its most marked, there were fundamental differences in the way both intellectual disability and mental health were conceptualized. 相似文献

This article presents an analysis of the concept of plagiarism in order to show the wide spectrum of manifestations that can be considered as such when committing a transgression of intellectual property, carried out with the intention of deceiving the authors’ true contribution and the originality and novelty of the information.The article describes the concurrent circumstances in intentional plagiarism, and the damage that this misconduct causes in the credibility of the scientific system, in which authorship credit is the foundation of the academic career, of the prestige of the author in the scientific community, and the basis for research funding.Some circumstances are favouring this fraud: the pressure exerted on researchers by the criteria used for promotion and reward that prioritise the quantity of works on their quality, the existence of a market for the purchase and sale of scientific articles, and the proliferation of predatory journals that operate without or minimal ethical standards.Finally, the paper highlights the convenience of the adoption of criteria that prioritise the intrinsic quality of the work versus its quantity, including the active involvement of the institutions in the development of active policies for the prevention, detection, and punishment of the cases of potential fraud, and emphasize that, in the end, the prevention of fraud relies on the individual adoption of an ethical and responsible behaviour. 相似文献

目的了解统计学方法在医学文献中的正确使用情况。方法选取8种医学期刊1998年~2005年发表的544篇论著进行统计学方法应用情况分析。结果136篇论著中有明显的统计学错误,错误率为25.00%。主要错误类型及构成依次为:资料处理方法不当占61.76%,图表错误占14.71%,未作统计学处理占8.82%,率、比混淆占8.82%,其他错误占5.88%。结论统计学方法的正确应用应引起高度重视,在审稿过程中,稿件除应送同行专家审阅外,同时还应建立统计学家审阅制度。 相似文献

Registered nurses must remain current with evidence-based practice knowledge to meet job demands in an evolving health care climate. This pilot study's purpose was to investigate a virtual journal club's effect on satisfaction, knowledge, and practice.Background
On-line learning is used to convey information while meeting diverse learner needs, and journal clubs are used to disseminate and discuss evidence-based practice knowledge. Combining the 2 concepts into a virtual journal club creates an opportunity to meet learner needs while discussing information that promotes evidence-based practice knowledge and implementation.Setting/Population
Sixteen critical care nurses from one midwestern teaching hospital's intensive care unit.Methodology
Researchers used the Kirkpatrick Learning Evaluation Model in a 4-week-long, mixed methods pilot study. Researchers presented 1 article about sepsis in an on-line discussion forum. Nurses took a pretest before participation and a Likert-type satisfaction survey and posttest after participation. Two weeks following journal club participation, researchers sent participants e-mails asking if/how nurses applied knowledge to practice. Researchers analyzed pre?/posttest results using McNemar's Test.Results
Sixteen nurses actively participated. Ten nurses took satisfaction surveys, choosing mostly 4 s (agree) and 5 s (strongly agree), reflecting statistically significant satisfaction. Sixteen nurses took pre- and posttests and demonstrated improvement in knowledge; however, only answers to 2 questions demonstrated statistically significant improvement. Eight nurses responded to the evaluation surveys with comments surrounding increased confidence in caring for septic patients and increased awareness of symptomology, testing, and treatments. Two nurses noted that their practice was not impacted by participation.Practice Implications
Choose relevant articles and make hard copies of the article available for easy access. The virtual journal club discussion forum should promote ease of use and be moderated by someone well positioned to participate frequently and knowledgably.
