A new seismic support device and its application in piping systems is described. The device, E-BAR (patented), can be cost effectively used for snubber replacement programs, mitigation of hydraulic transients, pipe whip and as a thermal stop. The device has pre-set gaps to allow free thermal movement. During a seismic or other dynamic load event, if the pipe movement exceeds the gap dimension, the device acts as an elastic or elastic-plastic restraint. The device also has a unique design feature for not exceeding the restraint force beyond a specified limit design value. To analyze piping systems with gap supports having elastic-plastic characteristics, modal analysis procedures for both response spectrum and time history methods are developed. The comparison of responses obtained from the procedures with nonlinear time history analysis and test results available in the literature shows excellent correlation. A pilot program conducted for snubber replacement with E-BARs demonstrates that the limit force feature of E-BAR makes them very attractive for snubber replacement. This is because a particular E-BAR with a specified limit design force can be selected, such that, the E-BAR replacing the snubber does not require any modifications be made to the existing support steel and hardware.  相似文献

Geometry-Dependent R-Curve for Quasi-Brittle Materials   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
Fracture of quasi-brittle materials such as ceramics and cement-based materials can be described by an R -curve, defined as fracture resistance. The R -curve can be constructed as the envelope of the strain energy release rates ( G ). In this study, R -curve is defined as an envelope of G -curves obtained by varying the dimensions of identical specimens, while keeping the geometry and the initial flaw size constant. By approximating the G -curve with a second-order function of the crack length, a simple formulation of the R -curve is derived by solving a differential equation. Three parameters are needed for the proposed R -curve. These parameters can be obtained by testing a notched-beam specimen and using linear elastic fracture mechanics. The proposed R -curve simulates well the geometry dependency as well as other characteristics of the fracture response of quasi-brittle materials.  相似文献

This paper investigates the ability of a shear wave reflection (WR) method to monitor microstructural changes of Portland cement mortar during hydration. The wave reflection method measures the reflection loss of shear waves at an interface between a steel plate and mortar. Mortars with water/cement ratios of 0.35, 0.5 and 0.6 were tested at isothermal curing conditions of 25 °C. The numerical model HYMOSTRUC3D was used to simulate the evolution of microstructural properties of the cement paste phase of the tested mortars. The parameters obtained from the simulations were the volume fraction of the total and connected solid phase and the specific contact area of the hydrated cement particles. The investigations have shown that the wave reflection measurements are governed primarily by the degree of the inter-particle bonding of the cement particles as calculated from the specific contact area of a simulated microstructure.  相似文献

Detailed in situ absorption spectral investigation of chemical oxidative polymerization of aniline in dodecylbenzene sufonic acid (DBSA) based system revealed that the chain propagation is assisted by redox equilibrium intermediate (REI) rather than a fully oxidized pernigraniline. The continuous reduction (addition of aniline) and oxidation (by oxidant) of REI, propagate the chain. The polymerization process consists of three prominent stages called induction period (IP), chain propagation and termination. The initial stage of polymerization is realized as IP, the time taken to establish REI. The presence of fully developed polaron band indicates REI has delocalized structure. Invariant spectral features together with tremendous increase in absorbance at propagation phase indicate REI undergoes reductive addition of aniline and oxidation by APS (ammonium persulfate) while maintaining equilibrium structure. The greatly increased absorbance with time at this stage is due to well-known autoacceleration phenomenon observed for aniline polymerization. The increase in redox potential of REI with increase in chain length accelerates the reaction and accounts for autoacceleration. The termination of polymerization would be reduction or oxidation depending on the availability of aniline or oxidant respectively. In a system where the oxidant is the limiting agent, reduction continues until it reaches emeraldine salt that is incapable of further reduction. On the other hand an excess of oxidant, results in the formation of pernigraniline by continuous oxidation.  相似文献

This article analyzes the transmission line characteristics of plasmonic hybrid metal insulator metal (HMIM) waveguide, circular ring resonator (CRR) based dual-band band-pass filters with two transmission poles in both pass-bands in the optical regime using coupled line feed. The transmission line characteristics of an HMIM waveguide, such as characteristic impedance (ZPV), effective refractive index (neff) and propagation length (Lspp), have been obtained by using full wave simulation. Using basic HMIM slot waveguide, a CRR with periodic loading of double- and triple-ring CRR is numerically analyzed. Two input ports have been used for excitation, which are located at the separation of 180° positions along the CRR, and are coupled with the ring by parallel coupled lines, producing the dual pass-bands with the synchronous excitation of two transmission poles. The proposed double-ring dual-band band-pass filter (DR-DB-BPF) offers 35 dB extinction ratio (ER), 299.69 nm free spectral range (FSR) and narrow band full width half maximum (FWHM) of 78.057—112.43 nm. The triple-ring DB-BPF (TR-DB-BPF) has 22.5 dB ER, FSR of 292.18 nm and FWHM of 42.751—59.58 nm. The proposed filters are very useful in the development of dual-band filters for electronic photonic integrated circuits (EPICs), as the optical signals are filtered at two wavelengths simultaneously.  相似文献

Product recovery involves the recovery of materials and components from returned or end-of-life products. Disassembly, an element of product recovery, is the systematic separation of an assembly into its components, subassemblies or other groupings. Stricter environmental regulations together with dramatic decrease in natural resources and landfills have increased the importance of disassembly as all product recovery options require some level of disassembly. Due to changes made during the lifetime of a product by customers or service personnel, the number and the version of components prior to disassembly is unknown. Customers may also discriminate between and demand different versions of components. The existence of non-functional components further adds to the uncertainty associated with disassembly yield. Sensors implanted into products during their production can address this uncertainty by providing information on the number, condition and version of components prior to disassembly. In this study, we evaluate the impact of sensor embedded products (SEPs) on the various performance measures of a washing machine (WM) disassembly line controlled by a multi-kanban system, which takes into consideration the highly stochastic behavior of the line while managing material and kanban flows. First, separate design of experiments studies based on orthogonal arrays are performed for conventional products and SEPs. In order to observe the response of each experiment, detailed discrete event simulation (DES) models for both types of products are developed considering the precedence relationships among the components of a WM. Then, pair-wise t-tests are conducted to compare the two cases based on different performance measures. According to the results, SEPs provide significant reductions in all costs (viz., backorder, holding, disassembly, disposal, testing and transportation) while increasing revenue and profit.  相似文献

In this paper, we have proposed a novel use of data mining algorithms for the extraction of knowledge from a large set of flow shop schedules. The purposes of this work is to apply data mining methodologies to explore the patterns in data generated by an ant colony algorithm performing a scheduling operation and to develop a rule set scheduler which approximates the ant colony algorithm's scheduler. Ant colony optimization (ACO) is a paradigm for designing metaheuristic algorithms for combinatorial optimization problems. The natural metaphor on which ant algorithms are based is that of ant colonies. Fascinated by the ability of the almost blind ants to establish the shortest route from their nests to the food source and back, researchers found out that these ants secrete a substance called ‘pheromone’ and use its trails as a medium for communicating information among each other. The ant algorithm is simple to implement and results of the case studies show its ability to provide speedy and accurate solutions. Further, we employed the genetic algorithm operators such as crossover and mutation to generate the new regions of solution. The data mining tool we have used is Decision Tree, which is produced by the See5 software after the instances are classified. The data mining is for mining the knowledge of job scheduling about the objective of minimization of makespan in a flow shop environment. Data mining systems typically uses conditional relationships represented by IF-THEN rules and allowing the production managers to easily take the decisions regarding the flow shop scheduling based on various objective functions and the constraints.  相似文献

Variational method (VM) is employed to derive the co-state equations, boundary (transversality) conditions, and functional sensitivity derivatives. The converged solutions of the state equations together with the steady state solution of the co-state equations are integrated along the domain boundary to uniquely determine the functional sensitivity derivatives with respect to the design function. The application of the variational method to aerodynamic shape optimization problems is demonstrated on internal flow problems at supersonic Mach number range of 1.5. Optimization results for flows with and without shock phenomena are presented. The study shows that while maintaining the accuracy of aerodynamical objective function and constraint within the reasonable range for engineering prediction purposes, variational method provides a substantial gain in computational efficiency, i.e., computer time and memory, when compared with the finite difference computations.  相似文献
