Solid-state 27 Al and 29 Si magic angle spinning NMR spectroscopy has been combined with electron energy loss spectroscopy carried out in the transmission electron microscope to determine the location of Al substituting in a semicrystalline C-S-H gel present in a hydrated synthetic slag glass. The gel is found to contain mainly pentameric silicate chains in which the central silicon is substituted by aluminum. 相似文献

The demand for anticoagulation services is rising. Warfarin anticoagulation has been shown to reduce the risk of stroke in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation by 68%. This raises issues about how services are best organized to initiate and monitor anticoagulation in this potentially large group of patients. We report the results of a regional postal survey undertaken to describe the views of general practitioners and consultants regarding warfarin anticoagulation in light of this potentially high increase in demand. 相似文献

We examine the production and ordering fulfillment system of a firm offering a large variety of products to time-sensitive customers. The firm wants to combine a finish-to-order strategy with an existing customer ordering system. The finish-to-order policy guarantees significant inventory savings due to the large number of end-product offerings, but it may also increase setup costs due to a short delivery commitment. The ordering system assigns periodic ordering dates to customers, encourages them to place their orders only on these dates, and promises them the same short delivery time irrespective of their geographic locations. The ordering system facilitates a smooth capacity load as well as transportation economies by allowing shipments to each location once during each ordering cycle. We propose a formulation for the combinatorial problem of choosing an ordering-day assignment and a finish-to-order production schedule that minimizes setup costs and maintains a balanced capacity load. We examine a Lagrangian relaxation of this formulation and heuristic solutions based on our relaxation. Our numerical work demonstrates that our best heuristic differs from the optimal solution by 5% on average for small problems (with up to 10 products and 10 customers). Moreover, we show that the difference between the objective value of the relaxation and that of the best heuristic decreases significantly as the problem size increases, being as low as 4% on average for problems with 30 products and 30 customers. 相似文献

Abstract In an effort to reduce the expensive resource requirements in courseware production and to allow effective management of, and communication and collaboration between authors, a model is needed to harmonize the diverse theoretical backgrounds such a process requires. To this end we look at five abstract models which where chosen for their apparent appropriateness within the general area of collaborative authoring and reuse of multimedia courseware. These models consist of a functional model of hypertext, an infrastructure model for an open collaborative authoring system, two object-oriented communication models, and a courseware production model. We attempt a consolidation of these models and ultimately make several conclusions, which are exposed during a conceptual harmonisation. The principal conclusion is that a hypermedia logical model is not by itself adequate to support collaboration and reuse. Our modeling conclusions have driven the design of a system which will be implemented and tested. 相似文献

We analysed the length distributions of different types of ß-strandin a high resolution, non-homologous set of 500 protein structures, finding differences in their mean lengths. Antiparallel edgestrands in strandturnstrand motifs show a preferencefor an even number of residues. This propensity is enhancedif the length is corrected for ß-bulges, which insertan extra residue into the strand. Residues in antiparallel edgeß-strands alternate between being in hydrogen bondedand non-hydrogen bonded rings. Antiparallel edges with an evennumber of residues are more likely to have their final ßresidue in a non-hydrogen bonded ring. This suggests that non-hydrogenbonded rings are intrinsically more stable than hydrogen bondedrings, perhaps because its side chain packing is closer. Therefore,we suggest that a simple way to increase ß-hairpinstability, or the stability of an antiparallel edge strand,is to have a non-hydrogen bonded ring at the end of the strand. The purpose of autonomic networking is to manage the business and technical complexity of networked components and systems.
However, existing network management data has no link to business concepts. This makes it very difficult to ensure that services
offered by the network are meeting business objectives. This paper describes a novel context-aware policy model that uses
a combination of modeled and ontological data to determine the current context, which policies are applicable to that context,
and what services and resources should be offered to which users and applications.

This paper examines prioritization in a service system and analyzes whether, in the presence of heterogeneous customers who have different needs and a costly sorting process, it pays to prioritize. In particular, in our model, sorting is costly because the task of gathering information to prioritize jobs consumes resources. We investigate a stylized model in which there are two classes of jobs — one whose waiting cost is high, called urgent, and the other whose waiting cost is low, called non-urgent. There are two types of employees, sorters, who collect information on a job and then decide whether it is urgent or non-urgent, and processors, who execute the job or provide the service. We begin by assuming that sorters categorize customers perfectly, and we relax this assumption later in the paper. We optimize two performance metrics, waiting costs (under a given budget) and total costs, and find the conditions under which prioritization is beneficial for these two metrics. 相似文献

It is argued that recent research in the information systems field has tended to either emphasise the structural/collective dimension or the agency/individual dimension, not both. Structuration theory is a more recent attempt to address both agency and structure, however there are a number of issues with the use of structuration theory in information systems research, not the least of which is its lack of recognition of the temporal and longitudinal nature of information systems development. A relatively new philosophy, critical realism, provides the potential for a new approach to social investigations in its provision of an ontology for the analytical separation of structure and agency. The philosophy is introduced and its implications for sociological investigation are discussed. 相似文献
