The authors describe 5 cases, 3 boys and 2 girls, with idiopathic growth hormone deficiency in prepubertal age, treated with human growth hormone. In four of five cases the response to treatment with GH was relevant. Only in one case (F1) the response was negative. The results of this study confirm that rhGH is a safe and effective therapy in children with GHD.  相似文献

The authors examine 162 cervico-vaginal smears of women in peri-menopause presenting cellular alterations (ASCUS). These patients were treated with a local topic therapy as the persistence of these alterations in 23 cases (14.2%) second level analyses were performed: gynecological visit, colposcopy and biopsy. In addition to inflammatory aspects 2 in situ carcinomas and 2 moderate dysplasias were recorded. We believe therefore that cytology could be a valid aid also in pre-menopausal women in the cervico-vaginal pathology.  相似文献

LR-fuzzy numbers are widely used in Fuzzy Set Theory applications based on the standard definition of convex fuzzy sets. However, in some empirical contexts such as, for example, human decision making and ratings, convex representations might not be capable to capture more complex structures in the data. Moreover, non-convexity seems to arise as a natural property in many applications based on fuzzy systems (e.g., fuzzy scales of measurement). In these contexts, the usage of standard fuzzy statistical techniques could be questionable. A possible way out consists in adopting ad-hoc data manipulation procedures to transform non-convex data into standard convex representations. However, these procedures can artificially mask relevant information carried out by the non-convexity property. To overcome this problem, in this article we introduce a novel computational definition of non-convex fuzzy number which extends the traditional definition of LR-fuzzy number. Moreover, we also present a new fuzzy regression model for crisp input/non-convex fuzzy output data based on the fuzzy least squares approach. In order to better highlight some important characteristics of the model, we applied the fuzzy regression model to some datasets characterized by convex as well as non-convex features. Finally, some critical points are outlined in the final section of the article together with suggestions about future extensions of this work.  相似文献

Vegetation water content is an important parameter for retrieval of soil moisture from microwave data and for other remote sensing applications. Because liquid water absorbs in the shortwave infrared, the normalized difference infrared index (NDII), calculated from Landsat 5 Thematic Mapper band 4 (0.76-0.90 μm wavelength) and band 5 (1.55-1.65 μm wavelength), can be used to determine canopy equivalent water thickness (EWT), which is defined as the water volume per leaf area times the leaf area index (LAI). Alternatively, average canopy EWT can be determined using a landcover classification, because different vegetation types have different average LAI at the peak of the growing season. The primary contribution of this study for the Soil Moisture Experiment 2004 was to sample vegetation for the Arizona and Sonora study areas. Vegetation was sampled to achieve a range of canopy EWT; LAI was measured using a plant canopy analyzer and digital hemispherical (fisheye) photographs. NDII was linearly related to measured canopy EWT with an R2 of 0.601. Landcover of the Arizona, USA, and Sonora, Mexico, study areas were classified with an overall accuracy of 70% using a rule-based decision tree using three dates of Landsat 5 Thematic Mapper imagery and digital elevation data. There was a large range of NDII per landcover class at the peak of the growing season, indicating that canopy EWT should be estimated directly using NDII or other shortwave-infrared vegetation indices. However, landcover classifications will still be necessary to obtain total vegetation water content from canopy EWT and other data, because considerable liquid water is contained in the non-foliar components of vegetation.  相似文献

With the intent of estimating the proprioceptive sensitivity of the cervical rachis, the Authors subjected 17 healthy volunteers and 20 patients suffering from various cervical disorders to a clinical head positioning test, which was previously experimented upon by several french Authors was modified under certain aspects by our equipe. The test, consists in flexion and extension of the head after maximal rotations to the left and right, then repositioning the head at the starting point "0" which corresponds to the crossing point of two orthogonal axis of a target. The positions are marked on the target by a laser beam situated on the helmet worn by the subject undergoing testing. The results obtained corresponding to the errors committed regarding point "0", permit us to confirm the reliability of the test and significant definitions between the control group and the patients suffering from cervical disorders.  相似文献

A multigrid and sparse-grid computational approach to solving nonlinear elliptic optimal control problems with random coefficients is presented. The proposed scheme combines multigrid methods with sparse-grids collocation techniques. Within this framework the influence of randomness of problem’s coefficients on the control provided by the optimal control theory is investigated. Numerical results of computation of stochastic optimal control solutions and formulation of mean control functions are presented.  相似文献

Ferrimagnetic glass-ceramics could be used for magnetic induction hyperthermia. This technique is utilised for the destruction of solid neoplastic diseases by application of an alternating magnetic field. Biocompatible ferrimagnetic materials could be easily incorporated into a tumour and could generate heat mainly by hysteresis loss. A ferrimagnetic glass-ceramic in the system SiO2–Na2O–CaO–P2O5–FeO–Fe2O3 has been prepared by melting of the coprecipitation-derived raw materials. This glass-ceramic contains a unique crystalline phase, magnetite, embedded in an amorphous matrix. Magnetite crystals precipitate during cooling from melting temperature. This glass-ceramic would no longer require any nucleation and growth thermal treatment, since the maximal quantity of magnetite crystals was produced during cooling. The average unit-cell parameter, crystallite size of magnetite, and the quantitative ratio of the crystallographic phases in the glass-ceramic samples were evaluated using two different methods. Similar results were obtained with both methods. The magnetite crystals are about 50 nm in dimensions. The samples contain 45 wt% of magnetite, homogeneously distributed in the amorphous residual matrix. The as prepared glass-ceramic has a saturation magnetisation of 34 A·m2/kg and a coercive force of 6.7 kA/m. The estimated magnetic loss/cycle under the magnetic field up to 796 kA/m is around 1.45 mJ/g. The specific power loss of this glass-ceramic under a magnetic field of 40 kA/m and a frequency of 440 kHz is 25 W/g. This material showed a bioactive behaviour, as after 2 weeks of soaking in a simulated body fluid the formation of a hydroxylapatite layer on their surface was observed. Adipocyte iron overload is a maladaptation associated with obesity and insulin resistance. The objective of the current study was to determine whether and how adipose tissue macrophages (ATMs) regulate adipocyte iron concentrations and whether this is impacted by obesity. Using bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs) polarized to M0, M1, M2, or metabolically activated (MMe) phenotypes, we showed that MMe BMDMs and ATMs from obese mice have reduced expression of several iron-related proteins. Furthermore, the bioenergetic response to iron in obese ATMs was hampered. ATMs from iron-injected lean mice increased their glycolytic and respiratory capacities, thus maintaining metabolic flexibility, while ATMs from obese mice did not. Using an isotope-based system, we found that iron exchange between BMDMs and adipocytes was regulated by macrophage phenotype. At the end of the co-culture, MMe macrophages transferred and received more iron from adipocytes than M0, M1, and M2 macrophages. This culminated in a decrease in total iron in MMe macrophages and an increase in total iron in adipocytes compared with M2 macrophages. Taken together, in the MMe condition, the redistribution of iron is biased toward macrophage iron deficiency and simultaneous adipocyte iron overload. These data suggest that obesity changes the communication of iron between adipocytes and macrophages and that rectifying this iron communication channel may be a novel therapeutic target to alleviate insulin resistance.  相似文献

This work deals with the additive manufacturing and characterization of hydroxyapatite scaffolds mimicking the trabecular architecture of cancellous bone. A novel approach was proposed relying on stereolithographic technology, which builds foam-like ceramic scaffolds by using three-dimensional (3D) micro-tomographic reconstructions of polymeric sponges as virtual templates for the manufacturing process. The layer-by-layer fabrication process involves the selective polymerization of a photocurable resin in which hydroxyapatite particles are homogeneously dispersed. Irradiation is performed by a dynamic mask that projects blue light onto the slurry. After sintering, highly-porous hydroxyapatite scaffolds (total porosity ~0.80, pore size 100-800 µm) replicating the 3D open-cell architecture of the polymeric template as well as spongy bone were obtained. Intrinsic permeability of scaffolds was determined by measuring laminar airflow alternating pressure wave drops and was found to be within 0.75-1.74 × 10−9 m2, which is comparable to the range of human cancellous bone. Compressive tests were also carried out in order to determine the strength (~1.60 MPa), elastic modulus (~513 MPa) and Weibull modulus (m = 2.2) of the scaffolds. Overall, the fabrication strategy used to print hydroxyapatite scaffolds (tomographic imaging combined with digital mirror device [DMD]-based stereolithography) shows great promise for the development of porous bioceramics with bone-like architecture and mass transport properties.  相似文献
