To increase the storage density of hard disk drives, the flying height of the slider needs to be reduced to <10 nm. This requires super-smooth surfaces of the disk and slider. As the roughness decreases, stiction and adhesion are found to increase substantially leading to failures of the head/disk interface. Texturing the slider surface is a well-known approach to this issue. In this study we investigated laser ablation as a potential process for texturing magnetic recording sliders. It was found that straight laser machining caused unwanted re-deposition of material. These deposits could be significantly reduced by using a chemical etching enhanced laser process.  相似文献

Heat assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) is one of the most promising techniques to extend the recording density in hard disk drives beyond 1?Tb/in2. Although the diameter of the spot on the disk that is heated by the laser beam is very small, on the order of nanometers, high local temperatures on the disk and the heat dissipated in the slider during the light delivery process can cause thermal deformations of both the disk and the slider, thereby affecting the flying characteristics at the head-disk interface. In this paper, a finite element model is developed which incorporates a HAMR optical system into a thermal flying height control (TFC) slider with dual heater/insulator elements to study the effect of heat dissipation in the wave guide on the thermal deformation and flying characteristics of a HAMR-TFC slider. In addition, the power input of the laser and design parameters of the heaters are investigated.  相似文献

Contact between a slider and bit patterned media (BPM) is investigated using finite element analysis. The effect of contact conditions and material properties at the interface between slider and disk on plastic deformation and temperature is studied. In addition, the planarization of bit pattern media on temperature and plastic deformation is investigated for different filler materials. It is found that filler material results in reduction of plastic deformation and temperature.  相似文献

The use of patterned media is a new approach proposed to extend the recording densities of hard disk drives beyond 1 Tb/in.2. Bit-patterned media (BPM) overcome the thermal stability problems of conventional media by using single-domain islands for each bit of recorded information, thereby eliminating the magnetic transition noise (Albrecht et al., Magnetic Recording on Patterned Media, 2003). Considering steady state conditions, we have transferred the pattern from the disk surface onto the slider surface and have investigated the pressure generation due to the bit pattern. To reduce the numerical complexity, we have generated the bit pattern only in the areas of the slider near the trailing edge, where the spacing is small. Cylindrical protrusions were modeled using very small mesh size on the order of nanometers to obtain the flying characteristics for the entire slider air bearing surface (ABS) using the “CMRR” finite element Reynolds equation simulator (Duwensee et al., Microsyst Technol, 2006; Wahl et al., STLE Tribol Trans, 39(1), 1996). The effect of pattern height, pattern diameter, slider skew angle, and slider pitch angle on flying height of a typical slider is investigated. Numerical results show that the flying height decreases for a patterned slider and the change in flying height is a function of the pattern height and ratio of the pattern diameter to the pattern pitch. In comparison to discrete track media, the flying height loss is larger for a patterned slider disk interface for the same recessed area of pattern.  相似文献

The Bernoulli head/disk interface is investigated using interferometry as well as the measurement of acoustic emission, normal force, and disk deflection. The dependence of head-to-disk spacing on radial head position and velocity for upper and lower heads is measured by monochromatic light interferometry. Acoustic emission measurements are used to study intermittent contacts between head and flexible disk. The normal force between the head and the disk h measured and is found to correlate with the acoustic emission signal. The disk deflection characteristics show that the normal force at the head/disk interface is related to the vertical displacement of the head. The normal force at the head/disk interface is determined from the relative disk deflection using the disk stiffness in the normal direction and compared with the measured force.  相似文献

Enzymes of the Krebs-Henseleit urea-cycle were localized by means of differential centrifugation and fractional tissue extraction in rat liver and in human liver. Argininosuccinatlyase (ASAL) and Argininosuccinatsynthetase (ASAS) represent enzymes of the soluble cytoplasmic fraction. Ornithine-ketoacid-transaminase(OKT), carbamyl-phosphate-synthetase (CPS) and ornithine-carbamyl-transferase (OCT) are localized in the mitochondrial and nuclei fractions of the liver cell. Most of the arginase activity is bound to subcellular structures (probably to nuclei). A small portion of arginase-activity was found in the soluble cytoplasmatic fraction. The enzymes of the Krebs-Henseleit urea-cycle are equally distributed in rat liver and in human liver. Differences in the subcellular localisation of (mitochondrial) enzymes in human liver could be attributed to mitochondrial breakage during tissue preparation and do not represent in-vivo conditions.  相似文献

The effect of write induced pole tip protrusion on the magnetic spacing of the head/disk interface has to be taken into consideration as flying heights approach the spacing regime of a few nano-meters. Thermal flying height control (TFC) sliders are presently in common use in hard disk drives to control the flying height at the read/write element during drive operations. In this paper the flying characteristics of TFC sliders with dual heater/insulator elements are investigated. Simulation results are shown for situations where the write current is ??on?? and where the write current is ??off??. The effect of design parameters of two heater/insulator elements is studied to optimize the performance of TFC slider.  相似文献

A tightly coupled numerical foil bearing solution   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Equations describing the steady-state flying height of magnetic tape over a recording head are solved using an algorithm that incorporates a linearized approximation of air bearing stiffness into the tape equation. The one-dimensional infinitely wide equations include compressibility and slip flow in the air bearing, as well as tension, momentum, and flexural rigidity in the tape. The stiffness coupling between the equations allows simulation of complicated head geometries and reduces the computational effort required to determine the steady-state flying height by more than an order of magnitude compared to previously published methods which are based on time-dependent equations. Two example problems are presented, both of which were solved on a personal computer in under one minute  相似文献
