The microsecond Nd glass pulsed laser interaction with polycrystalline nickel was studied with particular emphasis on melting and the nature of the microstructural development following irradiation. The change in the melt pool shape and the melting efficiency as a function of the total laser power has been determined. Evidence is presented to show that for low energy pulse, the microstructural development accompanies fresh nucleation of grains and leads to a finer grain size than that of the substrate. At a higher energy level, growth competition leads to a coarser grain size. We also report a banded feature roughly parallel to the melt substrate interface that develops in the resolidified region during high energy interaction. These results are discussed in the light of our present understanding of rapid solidification processes.  相似文献

Two AlMnZn alloys in melt-spun condition have been studied by transmission electron microscopy. The Al24Mn5Zn alloy was found to be fully icosahedral, while the Al12Mn2.9Zn alloy gave rise to decagonal quasicrystal. The decagonal phase grew in clusters with an orientation relationship between the grains suggesting nucleation on an icosahedral seed. On annealing at 500–600°C, the quasicrystalline phase transformed to a body centered orthorhombic phase L (a = 1.24, b = 1.26 andc = 3.05nm) with a high density of planar defects. This phase transforms to an ordered and defect free monoclinic phase M, a superlattice structure of L (a = c = 1.77, b = 3.05nm and β = 89.1°). The L phase is shown to be a rational approximant of the icosahedral phase. The interrelationship among quasicrystalline phases and their rational approximants in AlMnZn system are highlighted.  相似文献

In the surface tension-dominated microchannel T-junction, droplets can be formed as a result of the mixing of two dissimilar, immiscible fluids. This article presents results for very low Capillary numbers and different flow rates of the continuous and dispersed phases. Through three-dimensional lattice Boltzmann-based simulations, the mechanism of the formation of “plugs” in the squeezing regime has been examined and the size of the droplets quantified. Results for Re\textc << 1 Re_{\text{c}} \ll 1 show the dependence of flow rates of the two fluids on the length of the droplets formed, which is compared with existing experimental data. It is shown that the size of plugs formed decreases as the Capillary number increases in the squeezing regime. This article clearly shows that the geometry effect, i.e., the widths of the two channels and the depth of the assembly, plays an important role in the determination of the length of the plugs, a fact that was ignored in earlier experimental correlations.  相似文献

Insects are capable of robust visual navigation in complex environments using efficient information extraction and processing approaches. This paper presents an implementation of insect inspired visual navigation that uses spatial decompositions of the instantaneous optic flow to extract local proximity information. The approach is demonstrated in a corridor environment on an autonomous quadrotor micro-air-vehicle (MAV) where all the sensing and processing, including altitude, attitude, and outer loop control is performed on-board. The resulting methodology has the advantages of computation speed and simplicity, hence are consistent with the stringent size, weight, and power requirements of MAVs.  相似文献

The transformation on ageing Co-3 wt% Ti-1 wt% Fe and Co-3 wt% Ti-2 wt% Fe alloys has been followed by transmission electron microscopy and diffraction to establish that the solid solutions undergo spinodal decomposition at 823 and 973 K. The microstructural evolution has been correlated with the observed variations in hardness and yield strength. The coarsening of the modulations on ageing is seen to follow 3- 0 3 =Kt kinetic law. After long periods of ageing a discontinuous coarsening process sets in.  相似文献

A shared vocabulary between humans and robots for describing spatial concepts is essential for effective human robot interaction. Towards this goal, we present a novel technique for place categorization from visual cues called PLISS (Place Labeling through Image Sequence Segmentation). PLISS is different from existing place categorization systems in two major ways—it inherently works on video and image streams rather than single images, and it can detect “unknown” place labels, i.e. place categories that it does not know about. PLISS uses changepoint detection to temporally segment image sequences which are subsequently labeled. Changepoint detection and labeling are performed inside a systematic probabilistic framework. Unknown place labels are detected by using a probabilistic classifier and keeping track of its label uncertainty. We present experiments and comparisons on the large and extensive VPC dataset. We also demonstrate results using models learned from images downloaded from Google’s image search.  相似文献

This paper describes an integrated starter generator (ISG) for automobile applications with 42-V powernet. This system is based on an induction machine which is directly mounted on the engine crankshaft and controlled using the technique of direct torque control (DTC). The suitability of the technique for ISG application is explained. The control structure of DTC for ISG application is described. Detailed experimental results from a 1.4-1 diesel engine are presented demonstrating the performance of the system during cranking as well as generation. The ISG also incorporates the feature of "on the fly start" during generation mode. Details of a low voltage high current power converter developed for this application are also given.  相似文献

(1) Background: Fibrosis in early-stage alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD) is commonly under-diagnosed in routine clinical practice. This study characterized the liver-injury and cell death response in alcohol use disorder (AUD) patients with ALD who also exhibited fibrosis and assessed the efficacy of standard of care (SOC) treatment in the improvement in liver injury. (2) Methods: Forty-eight heavy-drinking AUD patients aged 21–65 yrs. without clinical manifestations of liver injury were grouped by Fibrosis-4 (FIB-4) score, as negative (Gr.1 < 1.45, n = 21) or positive (Gr.2 ≥ 1.45, n = 27). Patients received 2-weeks (2 w) inpatient SOC. Data on demographics, drinking patterns, liver-injury, immune markers, and liver cell death (K18s) markers were analyzed at baseline (BL) and after 2 w SOC. (3) Results: Lifetime drinking (LTDH, yrs.) and acute heavy drinking (Heavy Drinking Days Past 90 Days [HDD90]) markers were significantly higher in Gr.2 vs. Gr.1. BL ALT, AST, AST:ALT and K18M65 were considerably higher in Gr.2. Dysregulated gut dysfunction and elevated immune activity were evident in Gr.2 characterized by TNF-α, IL-8 and LPS levels. After SOC, Gr.2 showed improvement in AST, ALT, AST/ALT ratio; and in the K18M65, K18M30 and K18M65/M30 ratio vs. Gr.1. The true positivity of BL IL-8 response to predict the improvement in K18M65 to normal levels among Gr.2 patients against those who did not have improvement after 2 w SOC was very high (AUROC = 0.830, p = 0.042). (4) Conclusions: Gut dysfunction, elevated cytokine response and necrotic liver cell death were elevated in AUD patients with early-stage ALD. K18 showed promise as a predictive theragnostic factor to differentiate among the AUD patients with early-stage ALD and baseline fibrosis who had improvement in liver injury against those who did not, by the levels of baseline IL-8.  相似文献

Metal‐assisted chemical etching (MacEtch) has shown tremendous success as an anisotropic wet etching method to produce ultrahigh aspect ratio semiconductor nanowire arrays, where a metal mesh pattern serves as the catalyst. However, producing vertical via arrays using MacEtch, which requires a pattern of discrete metal disks as the catalyst, has often been challenging because of the detouring of individual catalyst disks off the vertical path while descending, especially at submicron scales. Here, the realization of ordered, vertical, and high aspect ratio silicon via arrays by MacEtch is reported, with diameters scaled from 900 all the way down to sub‐100 nm. Systematic variation of the diameter and pitch of the metal catalyst pattern and the etching solution composition allows the extraction of a physical model that, for the first time, clearly reveals the roles of the two fundamental kinetic mechanisms in MacEtch, carrier generation and mass transport. Ordered submicron diameter silicon via arrays with record aspect ratio are produced, which can directly impact the through‐silicon‐via technology, high density storage, photonic crystal membrane, and other related applications.  相似文献
