Polypropylene (PP)/clay nanocomposites are prepared using different grades of PP, compatibilizers, and organically modified clays. The melt intercalation of the PP is carried out in presence of a compatibilizer. The nanocomposites are characterized using various techniques for the structure and properties. X‐ray diffraction results indicate well‐defined structures. Thermogravimetric analysis indicates improved thermal stability of PP/clay nanocomposites. Isothermal crystallization studies carried out using differential scanning calorimeter illustrate enhanced crystallization of PP in all the nanocomposites. Optical microscopic study demonstrates that the nanocomposites can be crystallized at higher temperatures, exhibiting well‐defined birefringent structures. The dynamic mechanical analysis reveals higher storage moduli over a temperature range of ?400C to 1200C for nanocomposites, and the extent of increase in the storage modulus is dependent on the type of compatibilizer used.  相似文献

The present study reports for first time the blending of psyllium husk (PH) powder/gelatin (G) in the polymer-rich composition of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) to make an electrospinnable solution. The composite was prepared in 3 different ratios viz., 100% (wt/wt) (PVA + PH), 75% + 25% (PVA + 75PH + 25G) (wt/wt) and 50% + 50% (PVA + 50PH + 50G) (wt/wt) in 6% PVA solution. Optimum electrospinning parameters were evaluated for all the prepared blends. The fabricated nanofibers were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared, differential scanning calorimetry, porosity percentage, and fiber orientation using ImageJ software. A qualitative in vitro degradation study at room temperature is supported by SEM images. The cellular interactions were characterized by MTT assay of NIH-3T3 fibroblast cells for 2 and 4 days with an optimum cell growth of >50% by fourth day of culture and long-term cultivation of L929-RFP cells was observed for 10 days. The nanofibers were formed in the range of 49–600 nm. PVA + 75PH + 25G when cultured with L929-RFP cells exhibited highest fluorescence intensity and thus supported cellular proliferation significantly. Based on the results obtained from various analyses, we anticipate that fabricated psyllium-based nanofiber can be used as a promising candidate for wound healing and other biomedical applications.  相似文献

The process variables high hydrostatic pressure (HHP; 100–500 MPa), sucrose concentration (30–70 °Brix), immersion time (5–9 h) and immersion temperature (30–70 °C) were optimised to yield maximum water loss (WL), minimum solid gain (SG), minimum water activity (a w) and minimum browning index (BI) during osmotic dehydration (OD) of banana slices (Musa cavendishii) pretreated by HHP using response surface methodology. The pressure-treated samples showed significantly higher WL and SG during OD (p?<?0.05), which was attributed to the rupture of cell wall with applied pressure, making the cells more permeable, also evident from the scanning electron micrographs of the banana tissue. The optimised operating conditions were: HHP of 200 MPa for a dwell time of 5 min at room temperature (26 °C), sucrose concentration of 60 °Brix, immersion time of 5 h and immersion temperature of 40 °C. A study of the concentration profiles during OD revealed no appreciable increase in SG and WL after 4 h; hence, immersion time was reduced to 4 h. The optimised product developed was dried to a moisture content of 15 % (wet basis) in a dehumidified air dryer at an air temperature of 40, 55 and 70 °C with a fixed air velocity of 3.8 m/s and relative humidity maintained at 20 %. The final dried product was analyzed for total soluble solids content, BI and a w. A drying temperature of 55 °C was found to give superior quality OD banana slices in terms of reduced bulk, improved flavour, decreased a w (<0.60), and reduced dehydration time and energy using HHP as a pretreatment.  相似文献

The present work focuses on the microwave synthesis of lactic acid‐grafted‐gum arabic (LA‐g‐GA) by polycondensation reaction and its influence as an additive to improve the gas barrier properties of poly(lactic acid) (PLA) films, prepared by solution casting method. It is observed that during the synthesis of LA‐g‐GA, hydrophilic gum is converted into hydrophobic due to grafting of in situ grown hydrophobic oligo‐(lactic acid). Subsequently, PLA/LA‐g‐GA bionanocomposite films are fabricated and characterized for structural, thermal, mechanical and gas barrier properties. Path breaking reduction in oxygen permeability (OP) of ~10 folds is achieved in case of PLA films containing LA‐g‐GA as filler. However, water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) is reduced up to 27% after 5 wt % addition of filler. Reduction in OP of this order of magnitude enables the PLA to compete with PET in term of enhancing shelf life and maintaining the food quality. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. The effect of high-pressure processing on quality and shelf life of black tiger shrimp was studied. Shrimp was high-pressure processed at selected pressure levels of 100, 270, and 435 MPa for 5 min at room temperature (25?±?2 °C). Changes in physical, biochemical, and microbiological characteristics after processing and during subsequent chilled storage were examined for 35 days. After processing significant (P?<?0.05) increase in moisture content and parallel reduction in protein content was observed. No significant changes were observed in TVB-N and TMA-N levels of shrimp after processing; however, these significantly increased with storage. Whiteness index increased with pressure intensity imparting brighter and mildly cooked appearance. Pressure-induced hardening effect was observed, which showed decreasing trend during storage. The treated samples maintained lower viable counts throughout the storage, thus having better microbial quality than untreated sample. Shelf life was extended to 15 days in shrimp treated at 435 MPa compared with 5 days in untreated sample. Pressure treatment of 435 MPa was found to be most effective in preserving the quality and extending the shelf life of black tiger shrimp.  相似文献

In the present work, carbon nanotubes (CNT) and CNT‐carbon nanohorns (CNH) (0, 30, 50, 70 and 100 wt.% CNH) composite Buckypapers (BPs) were fabricated using vacuum filtration technique. Structure and property relation of composite BPs were studied using scanning electron microscope, four probe technique, BET surface area and contact angle measurements. Properties such as electrical conductivity, hydrophobic nature and microstructure of CNT‐30 wt.% CNH composite BP are superior to other composite BP. Hence, CNT‐30 wt.% CNH composite BP is chosen as a microporous layer (MPL) for PEMFCs and tested in fuel cell testing fixture. Polarization studies reveal that the cells performance with composite BPs is comparable with SGL‐MPL based cell. Hydrogen pumping and polarization studies of the cells confirms that composite BPs act as a good MPL at anode as well as cathode at 0.4 to 0.8 V. Hence, CNT‐CNH composite BPs are potential candidates for PEMFC applications.  相似文献

Green synthesis of nanoparticles is regarded as a safe and non-toxic process whereas conventional synthesis using chemical methods produces toxic substance. This study provides a novel insight for enzymatic synthesis method of silver nanoparticles using purple acid phosphatase, isolated from Limonia acidissima (wood apple) as a new source and used in the synthesis of silver nanoparticles. Stable silver nanoparticles were produced by sonochemical method using apoenzyme as a stabilising and capping agent and were characterised by various physicochemical techniques like UV–Visible spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared, X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. X-ray study shows that nanoparticles are composed of silver and silver oxide. The synthesised nanoparticles exhibited excellent antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus.  相似文献

The facile catalytic oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides has been achieved with VO(acac)2 supported on titania using tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) as an oxidant in dichloromethane in quantitative yields at room temperature. Providing timely and cost-effective healthcare appears to be significantly desired. Factors such as computer skills and comprehension of instructions impact people’s perception of the accessibility of such alternatives, especially for medical professionals. There are limited studies examining the aforementioned factors in information systems (IS) literature in the context of medical teleconferencing (ehealth) from the patients’ perspective. Thus, the purpose of this research study was to examine the underlying structure of four factors, namely IS usage (ISU), computer self-efficacy (CSE), ethical severity of misusing IS (ESMIS), and the resistance to use IS (RESUIS). Based on data gathered from 140 participants, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted, using the partial least squares (PLS) technique. Results indicated a very strong validity and reliability of the constructs, however, with a relatively low overall model predictability. Furthermore, the constructs of CSE and RESUIS appear to demonstrate significant contribution toward ISU.  相似文献

Olanzapine (OLAN) as an antipsychotic agent has shown its potential in effective management of psychotic disorders however its use is limited because of its poor water solubility. The aim of present work was to improve solubility of OLAN by developing a stable nanocrystal based orally disintegrating tablets (ODTs), using hyperomellose as potential stabilizer. Comparative evaluation of electrospraying and lyophilization as solidification techniques was carried out to assess its effect on solid state properties of OLAN nanocrystals before transformation to ODTs.OLAN Nanosuspension was developed using antisolvent precipitation method and exhibited particle size, polydispersity index and zetapotential value of 223.1?±?1.5?nm, 0.105?±?0.4 and ?17.9?±?3.5?mV respectively. Solid powders obtained from both the solidification techniques were compared in terms of size after re-dispersion, particle morphology, surface area, pore volume and solid state of drug present. Subsequently ODTs were prepared from these powders with needful excipients and % amount dissolved was evaluated. Rate of dispersion was found to be higher for ODTs prepared using lyophilized powder (~84% in 5?min) while other characterization parameters were comparatively similar. Overall, Lyophilization resulted in powders with better bulk level properties in comparison to electrospraying process.  相似文献
