Empirical relationships between sea surface carbon dioxide fugacity (fCO2sw) and sea surface temperature (SST) were applied to datasets of remotely sensed SST to create fCO2sw fields in the Caribbean Sea. SST datasets from different sensors were used, as well as the SST fields created by optimum interpolation of bias corrected AVHRR data. Empirical relationships were derived using shipboard fCO2sw data, in situ SST data, and SST data from the remote sensing platforms. The results show that the application of a relationship based on shipboard SST data, on fields of remotely sensed SST yields biased fCO2sw values. This bias is reduced if the fCO2sw-SST relationships are derived using the same SST data that are used to create the SST fields. The fCO2sw fields found to best reproduce observed fCO2sw are used in combination with wind speed data from QuikSCAT to create weekly maps of the sea-air CO2 flux in the Caribbean Sea in 2002. The region to the SW of Cuba was a source of CO2 to the atmosphere throughout 2002, and the region to the NE was a sink during winter and spring and a source during summer and fall. The net uptake of CO2 in the region was doubled when potential skin layer effects on fCO2sw were taken into account.  相似文献

Lens ion homeostasis depends on Na,K-ATPase and NKCC1. TRPV4 and TRPV1 channels, which are mechanosensitive, play important roles in mechanisms that regulate the activity of these transporters. Here, we examined another mechanosensitive channel, piezo1, which is also expressed in the lens. The purpose of the study was to examine piezo1 function. Recognizing that activation of TRPV4 and TRPV1 causes changes in lens ion transport mechanisms, we carried out studies to determine whether piezo1 activation changes either Na,K-ATPase-mediated or NKCC1-mediated ion transport. We also examined channel function of piezo1 by measuring calcium entry. Rb uptake was measured as an index of inwardly directed potassium transport by intact mouse lenses. Intracellular calcium concentration was measured in Fura-2 loaded cells by a ratiometric imaging technique. Piezo1 immunolocalization was most evident in the lens epithelium. Potassium (Rb) uptake was increased in intact lenses as well as in cultured lens epithelium exposed to Yoda1, a piezo1 agonist. The majority of Rb uptake is Na,K-ATPase-dependent, although there also is a significant NKCC-dependent component. In the presence of ouabain, an Na,K-ATPase inhibitor, Yoda1 did not increase Rb uptake. In contrast, Yoda1 increased Rb uptake to a similar degree in the presence or absence of 1 µM bumetanide, an NKCC inhibitor. The Rb uptake response to Yoda1 was inhibited by the selective piezo1 antagonist GsMTx4, and also by the nonselective antagonists ruthenium red and gadolinium. In parallel studies, Yoda1 was observed to increase cytoplasmic calcium concentration in cells loaded with Fura-2. The calcium response to Yoda1 was abolished by gadolinium or ruthenium red. The calcium and Rb uptake responses to Yoda1 were absent in calcium-free bathing solution, consistent with calcium entry when piezo1 is activated. Taken together, these findings point to stimulation of Na,K-ATPase, but not NKCC, when piezo1 is activated. Na,K-ATPase is the principal mechanism responsible for ion and water homeostasis in the lens. The functional role of lens piezo1 is a topic for further study.  相似文献

Spain is a secondary centre of the diversification of the melon (Cucumis melo L.), with high diversity represented in highly appreciated landraces belonging to the Flexuosus and Ibericus groups. A collection of 47 accessions of Flexuosus, Chate, Piel de Sapo, Tendral, Amarillo, Blanco, and Rochet was analysed using a genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS) approach. A total of 66,971 quality SNPs were identified. Genetic analysis differentiated Ibericus accessions and exotic materials (Ameri, Momordica, Kachri, and Agrestis), while Flexuous accessions shared ancestry between them. Within the Ibericus group, no clear genomic distinction could be identified for the different landraces evaluated, with accessions of different landraces showing high genetic similarity. The morphological characterization confirmed that the external colour and fruit shape had been used as recognition patterns for Spanish melon landraces, but variability within a landrace exists. Differences were found in the sugars and acid and volatile profiles of the materials. Flexuosus and Chate melons at the immature commercial stage accumulated malic acid and low levels of hexoses, while Ibericus melons accumulated high contents of sucrose and citric acid. Specific trends could be identified in the Ibericus landraces. Tendral accumulated low levels of sugars and citric acid and high of malic acid, maintaining higher firmness, Rochet reached higher levels of sugars, and Amarillo tended to lower malic acid contents. Interestingly, high variability was found within landraces for the acidic profile, offering possibilities to alter taste tinges. The main volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in Flexuosus and Chate were aldehydes and alcohols, with clear differences between both groups. In the Ibericus landraces, general trends for VOC accumulation could be identified, but, again, a high level of variation exists. This situation highlights the necessity to develop depuration programs to promote on-farm in situ conservation and, at the same time, offers opportunities to establish new breeding program targets and to take advantage of these sources of variation.  相似文献

The 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (n.m.r.) spectra of a delayed coking feedstock and products, presented in a previous paper, are analysed here in detail by matching results from inspection of both nuclei. The conventional spectra of whole samples are used in combination with elemental analysis data, and substantial agreement is obtained. Differences are explored to yield valuable information. Interpretation of some band assignments is modified to account for new results. This approach results in a detailed quantitative estimation of a few key structures that contain the main functional groups that characterize these petroleum fractions.  相似文献

The method of Fourier optics is applied to the problem of time-gated imaging through scattering media. Tb adapt the problem to this treatment, appropriate alterations are made: The continuous medium is replaced by a cascade of thin scatterers, and a spatial filtering process is substituted for the conventional gating processes. Predictions of financial time series often show a characteristic one step shift relative to the original data as in a random walk. This has been the cause for opposing views whether such time series do contain information that can be extracted for predictions, or are simply random walks. In this case study, we show that NNs that are capable of extracting weak low frequency periodic signals buried in a strong high frequency signal, consistently predict the next value in the series to be the current value, as in a random walk, when used for one-step-ahead predictions of the detrended S&P 500 time series. In particular for the Time Delay Feed Forward Networks and Elman Networks of various configurations, our study supports the view of the detrended S&P 500 being a random walk series. This is consistent with the long standing hypothesis that some financial time series are random walk series.  相似文献

This paper provides a link between time-domain and frequency-domain stability results in the literature. Specifically, we focus on the comparison between stability results for a feedback interconnection of two nonlinear systems stated in terms of frequency-domain conditions. While the integral quadratic constrain (IQC) theorem can cope with them via a homotopy argument for the Lurye problem, graph separation results require the transformation of the frequency-domain conditions into truncated time-domain conditions. To date, much of the literature focuses on ‘hard’ factorisations of the multiplier, considering only one of the two frequency-domain conditions. Here it is shown that a symmetric, ‘doubly-hard’ factorisation is required to convert both frequency-domain conditions into truncated time-domain conditions. By using the appropriate factorisation, a novel comparison between the results obtained by IQC and separation theories is then provided. As a result, we identify under what conditions the IQC theorem may provide some advantage.  相似文献

In this work a new methodology based on thermo-pressing a resin made from gliadins and glycerol has been developed to obtain water resistant films. The effect of processing temperature was studied on the functional properties of the films. The results of SDS-PAGE analysis of the molecular weight profiles of the resulting films were indicative of disulfide/sulfhydryl interchange reactions giving rise to the formation of intermolecular disulfide bonds between the gliadin units. These reactions augmented the degree of cross-linking of the matrix, which increased with thermo-pressing temperature, as evidenced by the residual reaction enthalpy values determined by MDSC as well as by cross-linking density values determined from tensile tests. In consequence the films produced at high temperature had better water resistance upon immersion, greater maximum tensile strength and Young's modulus values, and lower water vapor and oxygen permeabilities compared with cast films. Based on the analytical test results, thermo-pressing the resin in successive time/force steps along with a temperature of 130 °C produced gliadin films with improved properties.  相似文献
