The effects of nitrogen-beam voltage on the structure, stress, energy band gap and hardness of AIN thin films deposited on Si (111), Si (100) and sapphire (0001) by ion beam assisted deposition (IBAD) are reported. As the nitrogen-beam voltage was increased from 50 to 200 V, the stress and disorder in the AIN films increased as determined by X-ray diffraction, FTIR and Raman spectroscopy. The preferred orientation of the film's c-axis changed from completely normal to the film at 100 V, to a mixture of normal and in the plane of the film at 200 V. For AIN films deposited under the same conditions, the films were more highly oriented on sapphire (0001) than in Si (111). The hardness of the films increased from 18.2 to 23.7 GPa with the nitrogen-beam voltage, and possible reasons for this change in hardness are considered.  相似文献

The successful initiation and execution of a virtual team is gaining increasing attention in the design and construction community. From opportunities to integrate international and multidisciplinary teams to the opportunity to leverage the best resources in an organization on a given project, virtual teams can transform the concept of project planning and execution. However, potential barriers exist in several areas to the successful implementation of virtual teams. The needs of increased management emphasis, social and cultural understanding, and emphasis on common goals are only a few of the nontechnical factors that can turn successful virtual teaming into virtual frustration. When combined with traditional technical challenges including compatibility of systems, security, and the selection of appropriate technologies, the line between leveraging virtual technologies for enhanced solutions and introducing additional complications into the project process is one that can be easily crossed. This paper presents the findings of research that addresses the opportunities and potential barriers to successful virtual teams in the engineering, procurement, and construction industry. Combining results from current research, industry practices, and early results from nonconstruction industries, the research findings provide an initial path to successful virtual team implementation.  相似文献

A wet air oxidation reaction was carried out in a gas/liquid catalytic membrane reactor of the contactor type. The oxidation of formic acid was used as a model reaction. The mesoporous top-layer of a ceramic tubular membrane was used as catalyst (Pt) support, and was placed at the interface of the gas (air) and liquid (HCOOH solution) phases.

A similar reaction was carried out in a conventional batch reactor, using a steering rate high enough to avoid gas-diffusion limitations, and exactly identical conditions than for the CMR (amount of catalyst, pressure, etc.). At room temperature, the CMR showed an initial activity three to six times higher than the conventional reactor. This activity increase was attributed to an easier oxygen access to the catalytic sites. Nevertheless, the catalytic membrane gradually deactivated after a few hours of operation. Canine parvovirus (CPV) is a "new" virus that suddenly emerged in the mid 1970s. Antigenetically it is very similar to the long known feline panleukopenia virus (FPV). Soon after its appearance CPV was classified as a mutant of FPV. As with all "new" viruses, CPV continues to show active evolution, obvious by the appearance of new antigenic types. Interestingly, the new types, designated CPV-2a and CPV-2b, completely replaced the original type. This review summarizes the facts that are known about the emergence and evolution of CPV and discusses the relevance of the new antigenic types for the diagnosis of CPV and the vaccination against it.  相似文献

Responsive nanomaterials have emerged as promising candidates as drug delivery vehicles in order to address biomedical diseases such as cancer. In this work, polymer‐based responsive nanoparticles prepared by a supramolecular approach are loaded with doxorubicin (DOX) for the cancer therapy. The nanoparticles contain disulfide bonds within the polymer network, allowing the release of the DOX payload in a reducing environment within the endoplasm of cancer cells. In addition, the loaded drug can also be released under acidic environment. In vitro anticancer studies using redox and pH dual responsive nanoparticles show excellent performance in inducing cell death and apoptosis. Zebrafish larvae treated with DOX‐loaded nanoparticles exhibit an improved viability as compared with the cases treated with free DOX by the end of a 3 d treatment. Confocal imaging is utilized to provide the daily assessment of tumor size on zebrafish larva models treated with DOX‐loaded nanoparticles, presenting sustainable reduction of tumor. This work demonstrates the development of functional nanoparticles with dual responsive properties for both in vitro and in vivo drug delivery in the cancer therapy.  相似文献

Sources, compositions, and historical records of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in sediment cores collected from the Yellow Sea and the South China Sea were analyzed to investigate the influence of anthropogenic activities. The occurrence of PAHs was mainly derived from various combustion sources, especially the combustion of biomass and domestic coal. Uniform composition of sedimentary PAHs (52-62% of phenanthrene, benzo[b]fluoranthene, indeno[1,2,3-cd]pyrene, and benzo[g,h,i]perylene) suggested air-borne mixtures intractable to degradation. The concentrations of the sum of 15 PAHs (16 priority pollutants designed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency minus naphthalene; designed as Σ(15)PAH) in Yellow Sea sediment cores were generally higher than those in the South China Sea. The profiles of Σ(15)PAH concentrations recorded in the sediment cores closely followed historical socioeconomic development in China. In general, Σ(15)PAH concentrations started to increase from the background pollution level posed by agricultural economy at the turn of 20th century. In addition, a Σ(15)PAH concentration reduction was observed during the Chinese Civil War (1946-1949) and Great Cultural Revolution (1966-1976), suggesting them as setbacks for economic development in Chinese history. Increasing PAH emissions as a result of increasing coal combustion associated with the rapid urbanization and industrialization since the implementation of the Reform and Open Policy (since 1978) accounted for the fast growth of Σ(15)PAH concentrations in sediment cores. The decline of Σ(15)PAH concentrations from subsurface maximum until sampling time was inconsistent with current-day economic development in China, and may possibly suggest emission reductions due to decreasing proportional use of domestic coal and increasing consumption of cleaner energies (natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas).  相似文献

Validation of the research methodology and its results is a fundamental element of the process of scholarly endeavor. Approaches used for construction engineering and management research have included experiments, surveys and observational studies, modeling and simulation, theory building, case studies, and various subtypes thereof. Some studies use more than one approach. A particular contribution of this paper is that it reviews different types of validation using examples of studies, analyzes the specific challenges that were found to be significant, and presents how they were successfully overcome in each case. Another contribution is that it describes new opportunities for research validation that are emerging at the horizon as well as ongoing collaborative efforts to enhance the access of construction researchers to validation tools. This paper increases the awareness of the paramount role that validation techniques play in scholarly work by providing readers with recommendations to properly validate their own research efforts.  相似文献

A set of six benzothiazoles was determined in riverine runoff samples of the Pearl River Delta (PRD) collected monthly from March 2005 to February 2006. The concentrations of total benzothiazoles ranged from 220 to 611 ng/L, with benzothiazole (BT) being the most prominent (82%), followed by 2-methylthiobenzothiazole (MBT),thianaphthene (TN), and triphenylene (TP). The annual fluxes ofTN, BT, MBT, dibenzothiophene (DBT), 2-(4-morpholinyl)benzothiazole (24MoBT), and TP from the PRD to the coastal ocean were 1.94, 65.1, 10.1,0.63, 0.18, and 0.89 tons/yr, summing to yield an annual flux of 79 tons/yr for total benzothiazoles. In the PRD, approximately 1.1 x 10(5) tons of rubber are estimated to be released into the environment each year. This corresponds to the annual fluxes of 13 tons/yr for BT and 0.4 tons/yr for 24MoBT from tire particles. The annual fluxes of BT from scrap tires from Japan, Korea, Brazil, the European Union, the United States, and China were 99, 21, 36, 270, 328, and 120 tons/yr, respectively. The fluxes of 24MoBT from the same countries were 3.0, 0.5, 1.1, 8.4, 10.3, and 3.8 tons/ yr, respectively. These results indicated that tire-wear particles and scrap tires are the dominant sources of benzothiazoles in the environment. By comparison, Asia may be the major contributor to the global input of benzothiazoles from auto tires in the coming years. Overall, the six benzothiazoles under investigation appeared to be suitable tracers of pollutant inputs to surface runoff within the PRD aquatic system. In addition, 24MoBT seemed more appropriate than BT to trace tire rubber residues and therefore can be a good indicator of economic development and urbanization in a specific region.  相似文献

The coastal region off Macao is a known depositional zone for persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in the Pearl River Delta and Estuary of southern China and an important gateway for the regional contributions of contamination to the globe. This paper presents a comprehensive assessment of the input sources and transport pathways of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) found in the coastal sediments of Macao, based on measurements of 48 2-7 ring PAHs and 7 sulfur/oxygenated (S/O) PAH derivatives in 45 sediment, 13 street dust, and 68 aerosol samples. Total sediment PAHs concentrations ranged from 294 to 12741 ng/g, categorized as moderate contamination compared to other regions of Asia and the world. In addition, the PAH compounds appeared to be bound more strongly to aromatics-rich soot particles than to natural organic matter, implying a prevailing atmospheric transport route for PAHs to Macao's coast. Compositional analysis and principal component analysis (PCA) suggested that different classes of PAHs in the coastal sediments of Macao may have been derived from different input sources via various transport pathways. For example, alkylated and S/O PAHs were likely derived from fossil fuel leakage and transported to sediments by both aerosols particles and street runoff. High-molecular-weight parent PAHs were predominantly originated from automobile exhausts and distributed by direct and indirect atmospheric deposition. Low-molecular-weight parent PAHs, on the other hand, may have stemmed from lower temperature combustion and fossil fuel (such as diesel) spillage from ships and boats and were transported to sediments by river runoff or direct discharge as well as by air-water exchange.  相似文献

The objective of this research was to investigate the feasibility of visible transmission spectroscopy for the non‐destructive assessment of the freshness of an individual egg. A total of 600 intact white‐shelled eggs of the same flock (Lohmann, 40 weeks of age) were measured. To obtain a considerable variation in freshness, groups consisting of 60 eggs were stored (18 °C, 55% RH) for 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 days. The non‐destructive spectral measurements were compared with the two most widely used destructive freshness parameters, namely Haugh units and albumen pH. A partial least squares (PLS1) model was built in order to predict Haugh units and pH of the albumen based on the transmission spectra. The correlation coefficients between the predicted value and the measured value were 0.842 and 0.867 for Haugh unit and pH of the albumen, respectively. These results show that the light transmission spectrum of an egg provides quantitative information about egg freshness. Relevant information concerning egg freshness is restricted to the interval between 570 and 750 nm. Furthermore, the models obtained for both destructive parameters were strikingly similar, indicating that Haugh unit and pH have the same physico‐chemical background.
