A desired attribute in safety-critical embedded real-time systems is a system time and event synchronization capability on which predictable communication can be established. Focusing on bus-based communication protocols, we present a novel, efficient, and low-cost start-up and restart synchronization approach for TDMA environments. This approach utilizes information about a node's message length that forms a unique sequence to achieve synchronization such that communication overhead can be avoided. We present a fault-tolerant initial synchronization protocol with a bounded start-up time. The protocol avoids start-up collisions by deterministically postponing retries after a collision. We also present a resynchronization strategy that incorporates recovering nodes into synchronization.  相似文献

The resolution in ultrasonic images decreases with depth when using traditional time-gain compensation (TGC) of the received signal. To reduce this effect, both frequency-dependent and depth-dependent compensation is introduced. A time-varying digital filtering method is presented for this purpose, which is based on Wiener filtering. Images obtained from a simulated tissue equivalent are presented and the frequency-compensated images are compared to conventional TGC-compensated images. It is shown that the improvement in resolution using frequency-dependent compensation is considerable when the signal-to-noise ratio in the received signal is high.  相似文献

Several novel and some previously known, mostly sugar-based, surfactants have been synthesized and some of their surface properties have been characterized and compared with those of commercial nonylphenol ethoxylates. The surfactant solubility in water, ethanol, and dodecane was studied. The properties of these compounds as emulsification agents in systems composed of the surfactant with water/isopropyl myristate, water/rapeseed oil, and water/dodecane are presented. The aqueous solubility of the surfactants follows the general trend expected from their hydrophilic-lipophilic balance according to Griffin (HLBG), but it is also clear that the nature of the headgroup and the structure of the nonpolar part affect the solubility in a manner not aptured in the standard HLBG concept. An ester or amine group as the connecting unit between the hydrophile and the hydrophobe produces a more water-soluble surfactant than the corresponding amide derivative. Some effective emulsifiers were found. For instance, the surfactants with a dehydroabietic nonpolar group appear to be promosing emulsifiers. Most sugar-based surfactants were able to form macroemulsions of up to around 2 wt/vol% of oil. The stability of many of these amulsions was very high, extending for months.  相似文献

The so called “bee phenomenon” in bitumen has been investigated by means of AFM quantitative nanomechanical property mapping. Bees are a phenomenon that can be observed by topography measurements using AFM. The characteristic “bee” appearance comes from regions with alternating higher and lower bands in the surface topography of bitumen, which are surrounded by a flat area. The proposed mechanism for bee formation is phase separation and differential contraction during cooling from melt temperatures leading to wrinkling due to differences in the elastic modulus of the material phases. Using a laminate wrinkling model, the thickness of the bee laminate was calculated from the wavelengths and Young’s moduli of the bee laminate and the matrix. It was found to vary between 70 and 140 nm for the five bitumen samples that contained significant amounts of wax.  相似文献

Control of interactions between nanomaterials and cells remains a biomedical challenge. A strategy is proposed to modulate the intralysosomal distribution of nanoparticles through the design of 3D suprastructures built by hydrophilic nanocrystals (NCs) coated with alkyl chains. The intracellular fate of two water‐dispersible architectures of self‐assembled hydrophobic magnetic NCs: hollow deformable shells (colloidosomes) or solid fcc particles (supraballs) is compared. These two self‐assemblies display increased cellular uptake by tumor cells compared to dispersions of the water‐soluble NC building blocks. Moreover, the self‐assembly structures increase the NCs density in lysosomes and close to the lysosome membrane. Importantly, the structural organization of NCs in colloidosomes and supraballs are maintained in lysosomes up to 8 days after internalization, whereas initially dispersed hydrophilic NCs are randomly aggregated. Supraballs and colloidosomes are differently sensed by cells due to their different architectures and mechanical properties. Flexible and soft colloidosomes deform and spread along the biological membranes. In contrast, the more rigid supraballs remain spherical. By subjecting the internalized suprastructures to a magnetic field, they both align and form long chains. Overall, it is highlighted that the mechanical and topological properties of the self‐assemblies direct their intracellular fate allowing the control intralysosomal density, ordering, and localization of NCs.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To estimate the cost of a streptococcal tonsillitis episode from the data of a questionnaire. SETTING: Five primary health centres in the west of Sweden. PARTICIPANTS: 101 consecutive patients treated for streptococcal tonsillitis. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE: The cost estimation included costs for physician visit and drug, travel costs to and from the primary health centre, cost of lost production resulting from the patient's or the guardian's absence from work for physician visit or sick-leave, and cost of telephone consultation with a physician or nurse. RESULTS: The period of illness was on average seven days, time to recovery after treatment five days, and the mean period of sick-leave 2.5 days. The total cost of a tonsillitis episode was about SEK 3,300 (385 USD). Of this sum, the cost for the antibiotic accounted for only 3% and loss of production for 75%. CONCLUSION: Differences in the cost of drugs only have a minor influence on the total cost, while factors causing loss of production, such as efficacy and side effects of the drug, have a greater influence. Economic evaluation of pharmaceuticals will be more relevant in the future, and in the search for the most effective treatment, cost effective studies will be integrated with clinical trials.  相似文献

METHODS: In an open randomized study we compared the safety and immunogenicity of two schedules for priming and booster vaccinations of infants. A pentavalent combination vaccine, including a lyophilized Haemophilus influenzae type b-tetanus toxoid conjugate vaccine reconstituted with a liquid diphtheria, tetanus, acellular pertussis (pertussis toxoid and filamentous hemagglutinin) and inactivated polio vaccine (DTaP-IPV/Act-HIB; Pasteur Mérieux Connaught, Lyon, France) was administered to 236 Swedish infants either at 2, 4 and 6 months or at 3 and 5 months, and a booster dose was administered 7 months after the last primary dose. Adverse events were monitored by diaries for 3 days after each vaccination and by questions at the ensuing visits. Antibodies against the different vaccine components were analyzed after the primary series of vaccinations, before and after the booster injections. RESULTS: There were no serious adverse reactions, and the rates of febrile events and local reactions were low in both groups. The three dose primary schedule induced higher geometricmean concentrations for all antigens than did the two dose schedule, but there were no differences between the groups in proportions with protective antibody titers against diphtheria, tetanus, Hib and polio or in proportions with certain defined levels of pertussis antibodies. Prebooster results showed a similar pattern, with the exception that the group primed with three injections showed higher proportions of infants with detectable antibodies against polio-virus types 1 and 3. After booster vaccinations there were no differences between the two schedules in geometric mean or in proportions with antibodies above defined antibody concentrations, indicating effective priming from both primary series of vaccinations. Conclusion. The combined vaccine DTaP-IPV/ Act-HIB vaccine was equally safe and immunogenic when administered according to both time schedules studied.  相似文献

BACKGROUND and PURPOSE: A number of studies have indicated that acupuncture might improve the functional recovery of stroke patients. These studies vary in inclusion criteria, sample size, and evaluation methods. The present study was designed to investigate whether electroacupuncture treatment favorably affects stroke patients' ability to perform daily life activities, their health-related quality of life, and their use of health care and social services. METHODS: One hundred four consecutive patients >40 years of age admitted to hospital because of an acute stroke were randomized to 3 groups: deep, superficial, and no acupuncture treatment. The acupuncture treatment given by 4 physiotherapists started 4 to 10 days after randomization and was given twice a week for 10 weeks. All patients underwent conventional stroke rehabilitation as well. Two occupational therapists, blinded regarding the patients' allocation, evaluated the treatment effects. The assessments were performed 4 times during the first year after randomization by means of interviews and observations. RESULTS: There were no differences between the groups with reference to changes in the neurological score and the Barthel and Sunnaas activities of daily living index scores after 3 and 12 months. Regarding the Nottingham Health Profile, the no acupuncture group had somewhat fewer mobility problems. No differences in health care and social services were found between the groups. CONCLUSIONS: The present study does not give support to the previous studies, which indicates that acupuncture treatment may have a beneficial effect on acute stroke patients' ability to perform daily life activities, their health-related quality of life, and their use of health care and social services.  相似文献
