New technologies are highly interactive. They promote imaginative involvement and allow the experience of different self-states, such as those involving withdrawal or “psychic retreat”. According to Steiner, psychic retreats are areas of the mind populated by imagination and ideas which are poorly aligned with reality. Psychic retreats are not necessarily pathological in themselves—for instance, they can be used positively for counteracting anxiety or enhancing creativeness. However, with technological addiction there is a misuse of psychic retreat: here the total absorption with computer applications serves to hide painful or unbearable states of mind, and to protect the patient from overwhelming feelings through segregating self-states with a disconnection in their representations. Therefore, in clinical work with individuals suffering from technological addiction exploring the use of psychic retreats can serve as an aid to both diagnosis and treatment. Where the dysfunctional use of new technologies constitutes a temporary withdrawal from a specific painful event, this can have the function of protecting the individual from inner conflict; in the most serious cases however, technological addiction is grounded in more chronic and pathological dissociative mechanisms, and serves to prevent the mind from reactivating traumatic states connected to childhood experience of emotional neglect or abuse. While it is likely that the first condition can be positively handled with appropriate identification and treatment, the latter is much more difficult to deal with, particularly where the addictive behavior hides the weakness of the self, and psychic retreats are pervasively used to protect the patient from mental breakdown. This study analyses the digital marketing tools that companies producing Pecorino Siciliano with a protected designation of origin (PDO) are implementing on the web through their corporate website and their brand page on Facebook. It aims to verify whether companies are adapting (or not) to new trends in web marketing and e-commerce. The quality of corporate websites was assessed during the COVID-19 pandemic in terms of usability and amount of activity on Facebook brand pages by Pecorino Siciliano PDO-producing companies. Analysed data show that the companies producing Pecorino Siciliano PDO fell short in developing their web-marketing tools, demonstrating their poor adaptation to the new digitalisation trends driven by the COVID-19 pandemic.  相似文献

The paper reports the analysis of biomass derived from maintenance of a vineyard, to assess its potential as an alternative energy source, instead of the usual disposal of the wine supply chain’s residuals. The site studied is within the province of Messina, Sicily, in the area of Mamertino wine PDO, a wine of superior quality. The analysis suggests that use of this kind of biomass may allow a fossil fuel such as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to be replaced by a wine wood chip biomass boiler, thus meeting economic and environmental criteria by reason of recycling for sustainability.  相似文献

Renal-coloboma syndrome is a recently described autosomal dominant syndrome of abnormal optic nerve and renal development. Two families have been reported with renal-coloboma syndrome and mutations of the PAX2 gene. The PAX2 gene, which encodes a DNA-binding protein, is expressed in the developing ear, CNS, eye, and urogenital tract. Ocular and/or renal abnormalities have been consistently noted in the five reports of patients with renal-coloboma syndrome, to date, but PAX2 expression patterns suggest that auditory and CNS abnormalities may be additional features of renal-coloboma syndrome. To determine whether additional clinical features are associated with PAX2 mutations, we have used PCR-SSCP to identify PAX2 gene mutations in patients. We report here four patients with mutations in exon 2, one of whom has severe ocular and renal disease, microcephaly, and retardation, and another who has ocular and renal disease with high-frequency hearing loss. Unexpectedly, extreme variability in clinical presentation was observed between a mother, her son, and an unrelated patient, all of whom had the same PAX2 mutation as previously described in two siblings with renal-coloboma syndrome. These results suggest that a sequence of seven Gs in PAX2 exon 2 may be particularly prone to mutation.  相似文献
