Latex allergy     
The purpose of this study was to assess the mechanical properties--torsional moment, maximum angular deflection, maximum bending moment, and permanent angular deflection--of four brands of nickel-titanium (NiTi) endodontic file, and compare them with a conventional stainless-steel instrument, both in the presence and absence of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl). NiTi instruments from four manufacturers were randomly selected and subjected to NaOCl treatment for 12 or 48 h, or not at all. The mechanical properties under test were then measured automatically by a digital torque memocouple. Torsional moment and maximum angular deflection indicate the resistance to torsional fracture of an instrument, maximum bending moment the stiffness of the instrument, and permanent angular deflection the strength of the base alloy. All instruments evaluated complied with or exceeded ADA/ANSI Specification No. 28, with the sole exception of the Maillefer ISO size 40 for torsional moment. JS Dental and McSpadden NiTi files were the most resistant to torsional fracture, but all NiTi files were inferior when compared with stainless-steel files from a previous study. However, NiTi files were superior in flexibility, and Maillefer and Brasseler instruments were the best of the instruments tested. NiTi files also had negligible permanent deformation angles. Furthermore, for all properties tested, NaOCl had no statistically significant effect.  相似文献

Combining positive attributes of planar arrays and suspension arrays, immobilized particle arrays offer a new format in which immobilized submicrometer particles are arrayed on hydrogel-coated slides, providing 100+ assay replicates within each spot. This research describes how to prepare immobilized protein arrays and how to assay the binding of labeled target molecules to the arrayed capture probes. The assay system exhibits an intrinsic dynamic range of two to three decades, with coefficients of variation from 5 to 10%. For antibody-antigen binding, target capture appears to be reaction rate limited. For labeled antibody binding to antigen on the immobilized particles, the detection limit is approximately 0.5 ng/mL. When antibodies on the immobilized particles exhibit multivalent binding of target molecules, the detection limit is approximately 0.01 ng/mL. For protein arrays, potential advantages of this format are improved coating of the capture reagent, an increased number of options for protein presentation, reduced mass transport effects, and higher density multiplexing.  相似文献

If different effector systems share a common task-specific coordination dynamics, transfer and generalization of sensorimotor learning are predicted. Subjects learned a visually specified phase relationship with either the arms or the legs. Coordination tendencies in both effector systems were evaluated before and after practice to detect attractive states of the coordination dynamics. Results indicated that learning a novel relative phase with a single effector system spontaneously transferred to the other, untrained effector system. Transfer was revealed not only as improvements in performance but also as modifications of each system's initial (prelearning) coordinative landscape. What is learned, appears to be a high-level but neurally instantiated dynamic representation of skilled behavior that proves to be largely effector independent, at least across anatomically symmetric limbs. Nurses' inability to articulate many aspects of their work leads to its invisibility, a problem compounded in home-based palliative care where the nurse's work is rarely seen by others. A staff development exercise was undertaken which aimed to assist specialist palliative care nurses to articulate their relationships with patients to members of the inter-disciplinary team. The process was specifically aimed at understanding patients' and families' refusals to receive psycho-social care from other team members. It explores, through four narrative vignettes, the tension between nursing and non-nursing roles when patients refuse non-nurse care. At the centre of this tension are the issues inherent in nursing roles which frequently sit at the boundaries of other health practitioners.  相似文献

Glucocorticoids are steroids involved in key physiological processes such as development, metabolism, inflammatory and stress responses and are mostly used exogenously as medications to treat various inflammation-based conditions. They act via the glucocorticoid receptor (GR) expressed in most cells. Exogenous glucocorticoids can negatively impact the function of the Leydig cells in the testis, leading to decreased androgen production. However, endogenous glucocorticoids are produced by the adrenal and within the testis, but whether their action on GR in Leydig cells regulates steroidogenesis is unknown. This study aimed to define the role of endogenous GR signalling in adult Leydig cells. We developed and compared two models; an inducible Cre transgene driven by expression of the Cyp17a1 steroidogenic gene (Cyp17-iCre) that depletes GR during development and a viral vector-driven Cre (AAV9-Cre) to deplete GR in adulthood. The delivery of AAV9-Cre ablated GR in adult mouse Leydig cells depleted Leydig cell GR more efficiently than the Cyp17-iCre model. Importantly, adult depletion of GR in Leydig cells caused reduced expression of luteinising hormone receptor (Lhcgr) and of steroidogenic enzymes required for normal androgen production. These findings reveal that Leydig cell GR signalling plays a physiological role in the testis and highlight that a normal balance of glucocorticoid activity in the testis is important for steroidogenesis.  相似文献

In a paradigm for which 2 distinct patterns are perceived for the same stimulus, perceptual hysteresis (persistence of a percept despite parameter change to values favoring the alternative pattern) and temporal stability (persistence despite intrinsic propensities toward spontaneous change) are interdependent. Greater persistence during parameter change reduces temporal stability, slowing the rate of parameter change reduces hysteresis by increasing opportunity for spontaneous change, and increasing temporal stability (by enlarging the stimulus) increases hysteresis. Hysteresis results in the perception of parametrically disfavored patterns; a parameter can influence a percept without specifying it. The visual system thus exhibits time-dependent behavior analogous to dynamical behavior observed in other systems, both physical and biological, for which there is competition among alternative patterns that vary in relative stability.
