The aqueous solution structure of the cyclic pentapeptide cyclo(-Ser-D-Leu-Asp-Val-Pro-) has been determined by two-dimensional 1H-NMR spectroscopy, combined with a conformational search and distance-geometry calculations. As many as five conformers in slow exchange were observed, and the rate of interconversion between components was measured from the build-up rates of exchange peaks. NMR data allowed the structures of the two predominant conformers to be determined. The major component (66%) contained a cis-proline as part of a type-VIa2 beta-turn encompassing residues Asp-Val-cis-Pro-Ser. The second component (16%) contained only trans-amide bonds, and a type-VIII beta-turn formed by residues Val-Pro-Ser-D-Leu. These structures are discussed in relation to the (phi, psi), space available to the cyclic pentapeptide, determined by a conformational search, and in relation to previously published cyclic-pentapeptide structures. The molecule exhibits activity in a scintillation-proximity assay for the inhibition of the interaction between the integrin very-late antigen-4 (VLA-4; alpha 4 beta 1) and vascular-cell-adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1). The structure/activity relationship of the LDV sequence is discussed and related to the recently published X-ray structure of VCAM-1. Nonpharmacological cues associated with drug intake may influence subjective and reinforcing effects of those drugs. Social drinkers (N = 80) participated in 2 sessions in which they rated and then consumed ad lib their preferred beer (with participants blind to brand). Visual and olfactory stimuli were obscured during 1 session (blocked) and not obscured during the other (unblocked). Dependent measures included ratings of "liking", "want another", and "desire to drink"; subjective mood; and ad lib beer consumption (reinforcement). Most ratings and ad lib consumption were lower during the blocked versus the unblocked condition. There were no interactions of blockade condition with sex and no effect of blockade on mood. These findings show that nonpharmacological stimuli associated with alcohol consumption influence alcohol's subjective and reinforcing effects. A new ion beam analysis-based, single ion technique called the time to first photon has been developed to measure the decay of the luminescence signal of phosphors. Such measurements are currently needed to study luminescence decay mechanisms following high-density excitations and to identify strongly luminescent phosphor coatings with short lifetimes for ion photon emission microscopy (IPEM). The samples for this technique consist of thin phosphor layers placed or coated on the surface of PIN diodes. Single ions from an accelerator strike this sample and simultaneously create ion beam induced luminescence (IBIL) from the phosphor that is measured by a single-photon-detector, and an ion beam induced charge collection (IBICC) signal in the PIN diode. In this case, the IBICC signal provides the start pulse and the IBIL signal the stop pulse to a time to amplitude converter. It is straightforward to show that this approach also measures a signal proportional to activity versus time with an accuracy of 5% as long as the number of detected photons per ion is less than 0.1, which usually requires the use of absorbers for the IBIL detector or electronic discrimination for the IBIL signals. Details of the new analysis are given together with examples of luminescence decay measurements of several ceramic phosphors being considered to coat IPEM samples. Dose planning programs originally intended for use with symmetric fields have been adapted for use with asymmetric fields. An accurate representation of the change in primary beam quality with off-axis distance and depth is essential for accurate dose calculation and is usually represented in the computer as a primary radiation profile or primary off-center ratio (POCR). The original field edge correction (FEC) method described by Cadman [Med. Phys. 22, 457 (1995)] to determine POCRs has been extended to allow accurate POCR values to be obtained to an off-axis distance defined by the corners of the largest field, typically at an off-axis distance of 28.3 cm. This technique requires only routine symmetric field measurements including beam profiles, TMRs, and collimator and phantom scatter factors. The POCRs obtained using the FEC technique were used to generate off-center ratios (OCRs) using the boundary factor technique of Chui et al. [Med. Phys. 15, 92 (1988)]. Excellent agreement with measured values was obtained for cross-beam OCRs using a 10 x 10-cm2 field defined by a single set of asymmetric jaws with a field center offset of 15 cm and for diagonal OCRs using a 20 x 20-cm2 field with each pair of jaws in a half-blocked configuration. 相似文献

Measurements are reported of the dielectric properties of two semiconducting glasses of composition SiO2 · Na2O with admixtures of Sb2O
5 and SnO2, covering a wide range of temperatures and a range of six decades of frequency 10–2 to 104 Hz. Both glasses show a gradual evolution of growing low frequency dispersion (LFD) with increasing temperature, with both the real and imaginary components of the complex susceptibility following a power law of the type

Oxidation induction time (OIT), as measured by differential scanning calorimetry, is useful in assessing the extent of degradation in polymeric materials. Values of OIT for typical EPR and XLPE polymer insulation materials used for electric cable insulation in nuclear power plants were measured as a function of both radiation dose and antioxidant concentration after accelerated aging. Irradiations were performed at the University of Virginia Cobalt Irradiation Facility. OIT was found to decrease exponentially with increasing radiation dose and with decreasing antioxidant concentration for both ethylene-propylene rubber (EPR) and cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulations. It was determined experimentally that, when polymers are subjected to a constant radiation dose rate, antioxidant concentration decreases linearly with time, and it was shown that this variation is consistent with theoretical autoxidation kinetics. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. 相似文献

A multi-rate model predictive controller algorithm is presented for the in-batch closed-loop control of the full particle size distribution (PSD) in a semibatch emulsion copolymerization system. The lack of frequent measurements of the PSD and the measurement delay of these measurements are addressed through the use of frequent density measurements from which the current conditions of the system are estimated. The high dimensionality of the discretized full PSD is reduced by the use of model order reduction based on principal component analysis. This method effectively reduces the size of the problem while preserving the main characteristics of the population balance system. Disturbances that perturb the surfactant and monomer amounts inside the semibatch vinyl acetate–butyl acrylate reactor are considered to demonstrate the performance of the proposed control algorithm. 相似文献
