The past decade has seen nanotechnology progressively being adopted by the food industry. Its wide application in food packaging has redefined conservative food packaging with active and intelligent packaging. Nanomaterials do not only influence food quality and safety but also offer health-related benefits. Selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) have been preferred in recent years because of their high biological activity. However, they are generally synthesised using physicochemical methods which are associated with toxicity. In the past decade, efforts have been directed towards advancement of green synthesis of SeNPs to minimise hazardous by-products. The antioxidant and biocidal effects of SeNPs are generally investigated by direct contact between the oxidisable matter and/or test organisms. Lately, there is focus on the effect SeNPs incorporated into packaging films. This paper will review developments on SeNPs synthesised via plant extracts from the year 2010 to present and their potential application in active food packaging.  相似文献

Commercial polysulfone (PSf) membranes were crosslinked with a β‐cyclodextrin‐poly (propyleneimine) (β‐CD‐PPI) conjugate which had β‐CD pendant arms using trimesoyl chloride (TMC) by interfacial polymerization. The morphology and physicochemical properties of the nanofiltration membranes were characterized using Fourier transform infrared/attenuated total reflectance (FT‐IR/ATR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and cross‐flow filtration system. Water‐contact angle, water‐intake capacity, and rejection capacities of the membranes were evaluated. The β‐CD‐G4 (generation 4)‐PPI‐PSf and β‐CD‐G3 (generation 3)‐PPI‐PSf membranes both exhibited high humic acid rejection of 72% as compared to the commercial PSf which exhibited 57%. The modified membranes were also more hydrophilic (36° to 41°) than PSf (76°). These results suggest that β‐CD‐PPI nanostructures are promising materials for the synthesis of membranes for the removal of humic acid from water. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Remote sensing is viewed as a cost-effective alternative to intensive field surveys in assessing site factors that affect growth of Eucalyptus grandis over broad areas. The objective of this study was to assess the utility of hyperspectral remote sensing to discriminate between site qualities in E. grandis plantation in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The relationships between physiology-based hyperspectral indicators and site quality, as defined by total available water (TAW), were assessed for E. grandis plantations through one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Canopy reflectance spectra for 68 trees (25 good, 25 medium and 18 poor sites) were collected on clear-sky days using an Analytical Spectral Device (ASD) spectroradiometer (350–2500 nm) from a raised platform. Foliar macronutrient concentrations for N, P, K, S, Ca, Mg and Na and their corresponding spectral features were also evaluated. The spectral signals for leaf water – normalized difference water index (NDWI), water band index (WBI) and moisture stress index (MSI) – exhibited significant differences (p < 0.05) between sites. The magnitudes of these indices showed distinct gradients from the poor to the good sites. Similar results were observed for chlorophyll indices. These results show that differences in site quality based on TAW could be detected via imaging spectroscopy of canopy water or chlorophyll content. Among the macronutrients, only K and Ca exhibited significant differences between sites. However, a Tukey post-hoc test showed differences between the good and medium or medium and poor sites, a trend not consistent with the TAW gradient. The study also revealed the capability of continuum-removed spectral features to provide information on the physiological state of vegetation. The normalized band depth index (NBDI), derived from continuum-removed spectra in the region of the red-edge, showed the highest potential to differentiate between sites in this study. The study thus demonstrated the capability of hyperspectral remote sensing of vegetation canopies in identifying the site factors that affect growth of E. grandis in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.  相似文献

An engagement of different soil characterization techniques including ion chromatography, inductively coupled plasma, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction (XRD) has been utilized to study nature of the soils from seven locations where corrosion previously occurred on buried pipeline steels. Moisture contents from engaged samples were below 20%, and the organic matter contents were negligible. The least resistivity was observed on soil sample (SS) 4. The energy-dispersive X-ray analysis showed notable amount of chloride in SS 4, while the XRD analysis revealed the formation of complex phases comprised goethite and hematite from SS 4. The overall view regarding corrosivity went in this order: SS 4, SS 1, SS 5, SS 7, SS 6, and SS 2. The recommended cathodic protection for soils was between ?850 and ?950 mV Cu/CuSO4.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to assess nucleo‐cytoplasmic protein localization to better understand the exact intracellular localization of viral proteins involved with infections. Having determined the general protein localization of hepatitis B virus P22 precore protein, the aim was to more specifically resolve its intracellular organization. This was done using both laser scanning microscopy and Airyscan techniques. Using a 63× objective, the resolution obtained with Airyscan was increased by 1.5‐fold as compared to confocal microscopy (p value <.00001).  相似文献

Coal burst occurrence on roadways has always been a major concern in deep underground coal mines,especially under complex geological conditions. To evaluate the effect of faulting on coal burst, the stress concentration in the vicinity a reverse fault was analysed considering the geological history of the fault formation where high horizontal stresses led to the initiation and propagation of the reverse fault.Various in situ stresses and mechanical parameters of the fault, including the ratio of horizontal stress to vertical stress were used to analyse the state of fault. Numerical modelling was conducted using two and three dimensional distinct element models(UDEC and 3 DEC) based on a geotechnical conditions of an Australian underground coal mine. The formation process of reverse fault was simulated to evaluate the stress characteristics in the coal seam and the immediate roof and floor near the fault. The results show that, both the horizontal and vertical stress in footwall were higher than those in hanging wall after the formation of the reverse fault. The stress condition near fault was complicated due to complex geology in the coal measures, and the vertical stress peaked in the footwall at a distance of about 160 m from the fault. When a roadway was excavated, stress concentration occurred at both the roadway face and ribs, which reached as high as 38 MPa in the ribs at a depth of 500 m. This will significantly elevate the risk of dynamic instability of the roadway such as coal burst. The stress concentration zone in the footwall can be considered as a hazardous zone near the reverse fault. This study provides a general reference for analysis of roadway stability affected by faults.  相似文献
