This paper presents a computational theory for the general scalar moment problem. The formalism is sufficiently general to encompass problems in sensor arrays with arbitrary geometry and dynamics, and in nonuniform multidimensional sampling. Given a finite set of moments, the theory provides a test for the existence of a positive measure which is consistent with such data. At the same time, the theory also provides a characterization of all such consistent positive measures. It should be noted that classical results (e.g., in the theory of the trigonometric moment problem, Hamburger, Stieljes, Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation, etc.) are not applicable to the general setting sought herein where there is no natural shift operator in the space spanned by the integration kernels. The centerpiece of the theory is a differential equation which depends on the given finite set of moments and on an arbitrary positive function /spl Psi/-which plays the role of a "free parameter." The differential equation has an exponentially attractive point of equilibrium if and only if there exists a consistent positive measure. For each /spl Psi/, the fixed point determines a corresponding measure. Suitable choice of /spl Psi/ allows recovering any measure which is consistent with the data. The fixed point of the differential equation corresponds to an extremum of an entropy-like functional, and the differential equation is constructed via an appropriate homotopy that follows changes in the Lagrange multipliers from a convenient starting value to a value for the multipliers that corresponds to the given moments.  相似文献

Crustacean and insect neuromuscular junctions typically include numerous small synapses, each of which usually contains one or more active zones, which possess voltage-sensitive calcium channels and are specialized for release of synaptic vesicles. Strength of transmission (the number of quantal units released per synapse by a nerve impulse) varies greatly among different endings of individual neurons, and from one neuron to another. Ultrastructural features of synapses account for some of the physiological differences at endings of individual neurons. The nerve terminals that release more neurotransmitter per impulse have a higher incidence of synapses with more than one active zone, and this is correlated with more calcium build-up during stimulation. However, comparison of synaptic structure in neurons with different physiological phenotypes indicates no major differences in structure that could account for their different levels of neurotransmitter release per impulse, and release per synapse differs among neurons despite similar calcium build-up in their terminals during stimulation. The evidence indicates differences in calcium sensitivity of the release process among neurons as an aspect of physiological specialization.  相似文献

For psychological reasons, coelocentesis was performed in 20 women prior to termination of pregnancy, at 6-11 weeks of gestation. The fetal heart rate (FHR) was measured immediately before the procedure and at 1, 5, and 10 min afterward. There was no significant difference between FHR before coelocentesis compared to the values at 1 min (mean = 158, range 114-178; z = -0.629, P = 0.529), 5 min (mean = 160, range 121-179; z = -0.191, P = 0.848), or 10 min (mean 159, range 117-183; z = -0.214, P = 0.83) after the procedure. These findings suggest that coelocentesis does not have a major effect on the fetal cardiovascular system.  相似文献

ADS Expert is an integrated system that (a) provides suggestions about suitable optimization algorithms for a particular structural optimization problem, (b) it offers explanations and guide lines, in the form of hypertext, that refer to the optimization strategy, optimizer and one dimensional search method, (c) it produces the required gradients for the objective function and the constraints using symbolic differentiation, (d) establishes a direct linking with ADS routines and (e) it monitors the evolution of the optimization process. The system can be used as an educational tool for structural optimization and as an efficient integrated system for small to medium size optimization problems for which the objective function and the constraints are given in the form of explicit functions of the design variables. The system is a Windows application and runs quite satisfactorily on PCs.  相似文献

Nonobese diabetic (NOD) mice spontaneously develop insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. The disease results from an autoimmune process which involves mononuclear cells surrounding and eventually infiltrating the pancreatic islets of Langerhans. Macrophages are thought to be the first cells to infiltrate the islets and are actively involved in the disease process because diabetes is prevented if host macrophages are depleted or inactivated. Several lines of evidence also suggest that NOD macrophages are phenotypically and functionally abnormal. In this study, allogeneic (CBA) macrophages derived from the thymus were inoculated into newborn NOD mice and these were followed for more than 250 days. Spontaneous diabetes was significantly reduced in female NOD mice (6% diabetic versus 45% of controls). Insulitis was also significantly reduced in both male and female mice compared to their control counterparts, and in most cases there were virtually no inflammatory cells in the pancreas. Allogeneic skin grafting and mixed leukocyte cultures indicated that the recipients were not tolerant of donor antigens, and donor-derived cells were not detected in the lymphoid tissues by either flow cytometry or immunohistochemistry. The results show that macrophages from diabetes-resistant donors will prevent insulitis and diabetes in most recipients, however, the mechanism for the protection is unclear, but does not appear to be due to long-term tolerance induction.  相似文献

Even though secretion offers numerous advantages for the production of proteins in Escherichia coli, the expression of many heterologous proteins is severely limited by degradation in the periplasmic space. We found that mutations in rpoH, the RNA polymerase sigma factor responsible for heat shock protein synthesis, affect the stability of heterologous secreted proteins. A particularly dramatic increase in expression was further observed in rpoH degP double mutants. To minimize proteolytic degradation, we constructed a family of 25 isogenic strains deficient in all known cell envelope proteases (DegP, Protease III, Tsp(Prc), and OmpT), as well as the rpoH15 mutant allele, and characterized their growth in both shake flasks and fermentors. The availability of this set of strains permits the selection of a suitable host based on the optimal combination between the optimum reduction in protease activity and acceptable growth properties.  相似文献

Bacterial Foraging Optimisation (BFO) is investigated in an attempt to evaluate its use in solving complex optimisation problems for aeronautical structures. A hybrid variant of BFOA, which incorporates meta-modelling techniques, is also proposed and employed. The efficiency and effectiveness of the methods are tested for tailoring a rectangular composite wing, aiming to maximise the flutter speed and for scaling a joined-wing aircraft, targeting to match aeroelastic responses between the physical prototype and wind tunnel model. The obtained results are compared with those found using a range of other biologically inspired optimisation methods (GA, PSO, ACO), proving that the social foraging behavior of motile bacteria is an effective tool for aeroelastic optimisation.  相似文献

The electroencephalogram (EEG) has proven a valuable tool in the study and detection of epilepsy. This paper investigates for the first time the use of Permutation Entropy (PE) as a feature for automated epileptic seizure detection. A Support Vector Machine (SVM) is used to classify segments of normal and epileptic EEG based on PE values. The proposed system utilizes the fact that the EEG during epileptic seizures is characterized by lower PE than normal EEG. It is shown that average sensitivity of 94.38% and average specificity of 93.23% is obtained by using PE as a feature to characterize epileptic and seizure-free EEG, while 100% sensitivity and specificity were also obtained in single-trial classifications.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the l1-state feedback problem with an internal stability constraint. In particular, we establish the connection between controlled-invariant contractive sets and static control laws that achieve a level of l1 performance as well as a desired unforced rate of convergence. We outline two algorithms for computing controlled-invariant contractive sets. The first is a modification of standard recursive techniques used in the literature, whereas the second is based on dynamic games and involves solving an appropriate discrete Isaacs recursion. The latter approach results in a min-max characterization of l1-state feedback controllers. We point out that the Isaacs recursion provides a one-shot (as opposed to iterative) computation of the optimal l1 performance  相似文献
