An effective compact analyzer of electron spin polarization

A compact electron polarimeter employing the classical Mott scheme has been developed and tested. The device has an efficiency of about 5.6×10⁻⁴, a maximum count rate of 5×10⁵ cps, dimensions 15 cm (diameter) × 25 cm (length), and a working voltage of 40 kV. The polarimeter can operate for a long time under arbitrary vacuum conditions without maintenance, exhibiting no changes in the main working characteristics, and obeys all requirements to the electron spin polarization studies on the modern level.     

Breakup of Unstable Drops and Bubbles at a Vibrating Cylindrical Nozzle

A condition for the formation of unstable drops of an ideal liquid in a gas and bubbles in an ideal liquid at a cylindrical nozzle executing longitudinal vibrations is considered. Expressions are derived for the particle size as functions of the parameters of the nozzle and the characteristics of vibration. A necessary and sufficient condition for the formation of a stable particle at the vibrating nozzle is determined. The theoretical and experimental data are in satisfactory agreement.     

Generalized chebyshev inequality and its application to survivability analysis of complex systems

Conclusions The generalized Chebyshev inequalities are of independent value in mathematical analysis, probability theory, and other fields. Survivability analysis of elements and systems requires specification of functional probability characteristics-distributions of the current durability point. Probabilistic calculation of survivability of complex systems can be carried out using logical-probabilistic methods [22, 28], because the probabilistic-physical meaning of the distribution of current durability point at the point x is the failure probability of an element (a system) given the deterministic level x of the next shock. The methodology of reliability theory can be updated by focusing on a physical stochastic process, instead of time to failure, as the cause of failure. In conclusion, I would like to thank I. A. Effect of Dilution and Porosity on Self-Propagating High-Temperature Synthesis of Silicon Nitride

Self-propagating high-temperature synthesis is a very easy and low-cost method to synthesize Si₃N₄. The nitriding of silicon powder takes place in a self-sustained regime under high pressures of nitrogen with dilution of silicon by Si₃N₄. In this work effects of dilution and green-mixture porosity on combustion velocity and phase content of reaction products are studied. Results are compared with previous work of other authors and different behaviors are found. An explanation of these behaviors is given.     

Synthesis of silicon oxynitride by infiltration-mediated combustion

Silicon oxynitride Si₂N₂ O was synthesized from a mixture of Si, SiO₂, and Si₃N₄ by infiltrationmediated combustion in nitrogen gas. The chemical/phase composition of product and process parameters (temperature and burning velocity) were studied upon variation in charge composition and initial pressure of gas reagent. Parameters of the reaction yielding single-phase Si₂N₂O have been optimized.
