This study determined the prevalence of Salmonella serovars, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and resistance genes in Salmonella isolated from retail meats purchased in Alberta, Canada. Samples were collected during one year period (May 2007–April 2008) on weekly basis from 19 census divisions in Alberta. A total of 564 samples including chicken (n = 206), turkey (n = 91), beef (n = 134) and pork (n = 133) were purchased. Salmonella were recovered from chicken (40%), turkey (27%) and pork (2%) samples and was not found in ground beef. A total of 21, 8, and 3 different serovars were recovered from chicken, turkey and pork meats, respectively. Salmonella Hadar was most common in chicken whereas S. Heidelberg was common in turkey meat. Overall 29% (32/110) of isolates were susceptible to tested antimicrobials and resistance to ciprofloxacin, amikacin and nalidixic acid was not found in any isolate. Multiresistance (≥2 antimicrobials) was found in 56% of isolates. Resistance to amoxicillin–clavulanic acid (AMC), ceftiofur (TIO), and ceftriaxone (CRO) was found in about 21% of chicken and 25% of turkey isolates. Resistance to either of tetracycline (TET), streptomycin (STR) or ampicillin (AMP) was unconditionally associated with S. Hadar but resistance to either of TET, AMP, AMC, TIO, CRO or cefoxitin was associated with S. Heidelberg. The strA/B (42% isolates), tet(A) (28% isolates), blaCMY-2 (21% isolates) and blaTEM (17% isolates) were the most common resistance genes found. The blaCMY-2 and blaTEM genes were unconditionally associated with S. Heidelberg; tet(A) and strA/B with S. Hadar and tet(B) gene with S. Kentucky. The strA/B genes were not associated with S. Heidelberg. Our data suggests that the prevalence of Salmonella serovars varied by the meat type and that AMR and resistance genes varied by the Salmonella serovars. 相似文献

The entertainment industry, primarily the video games industry, continues to dictate the development and performance requirements
of graphics hardware and computer graphics algorithms. However, despite the enormous progress in the last few years, it is
still not possible to achieve some of industry’s demands, in particular high-fidelity rendering of complex scenes in real-time,
on a single desktop machine. A realisation that sound/music and other senses are important to entertainment led to an investigation
of alternative methods, such as cross-modal interaction in order to try and achieve the goal of “realism in real-time”. In
this paper we investigate the cross-modal interaction between vision and audition for reducing the amount of computation required
to compute visuals by introducing movement related sound effects. Additionally, we look at the effect of camera movement speed
on temporal visual perception. Our results indicate that slow animations are perceived as smoother than fast animations. Furthermore,
introducing the sound effect of footsteps to walking animations further increased the animation smoothness perception. This
has the consequence that for certain conditions, the number of frames that need to be rendered each second can be reduced,
saving valuable computation time, without the viewer being aware of this reduction. The results presented are another step
towards the full understanding of the auditory-visual cross-modal interaction and its importance for helping achieve “realism

Abstract— A scalable manufacturing process for fabricating active‐matrix backplanes on low‐cost flexible substrates, a key enabler for electronic‐paper displays, is presented. This process is based on solution processing, ink‐jet printing, and laser patterning. A multilayer architecture is employed to enable high aperture ratio and array performance. Despite the complexity of the Human Visual System (HVS), research over the last few decades has highlighted a number of its limitations. These limitations can be exploited in computer graphics to significantly reduce computational cost and thus required rendering time, without a viewer perceiving any difference in resultant image quality. Furthermore, cross-modal interaction between different modalities, such as the influence of audio on visual perception, has also been shown as significant both in psychology and computer graphics. In this paper we investigate the effect of beat rate on temporal visual perception, i.e. frame rate perception. For the visual quality and perception evaluation, a series of psychophysical experiments was conducted and the data analysed. The results indicate that beat rates in some cases do affect temporal visual perception and that certain beat rates can be used in order to reduce the amount of rendering required to achieve a perceptual high quality. This is another step towards a comprehensive understanding of auditory-visual cross-modal interaction and could be potentially used in high-fidelity interactive multi-sensory virtual environments. 相似文献

This paper is concerned with individual responses of four dental practitioners to stress. The subjects were chosen on the basis of age, sex, length of time in practice and whether or not they practised solo or in a group. Responses were measured against ten stressor variables that were previously found to have occurred commonly among dentists. From these responses stressor ratings of the four subjects were obtained and compared. These ratings, which seem to be idiosyncratic and unpredictable, reflect wide differences between the respondents. The findings suggest the possibility that these differences may be attributable to personality factors and differences in coping styles, and tend to support the hypothesis that stress is a unique, perceptual and experimental phenomenon. 相似文献
