New inorganic proton conductors

High values of proton conductivity have been observed in a class of hydrated metal oxide pyrochlores, HMO₃·xH₂O (M = Sb, Nb, Ta). Two new polymorphs of HSbO₃·xH₂O have been synthesized and are also found to be good proton conductors. One polymorph has a layer structure and is derived from KSbO₃ with the ilmenite structure. The other new HSbO₃·xH₂O polymorph has the cubic KSbO₃ structure. A correlation of TGA, IR, NMR, and proton conductivity data suggests that the best inorganic proton conductors (10^?2 (Ωcm)^?1 at 80°C) are hydrates; this supports a Grotthus-type conduction mechanism analogous to that observed in aqueous media.     

Web Support System for Business Intelligence in Small and Medium Enterprises

Last decade belongs to business intelligence (BI) because it is one of the few concepts that have actually lived to the expectations. Not only the businesses have adopted it but also have reaped the fruits out of it. But the cost of BI solutions is very high and has restricted small and medium enterprises to use BI solutions. The human resource is also limited and resultantly expensive in this field. This research proposes a web support system for business intelligence which provides automated data mapping and loading from user application to BI framework and also validates it. The system also assists users in getting the outputs in terms of reports and dashboards. The implementation of the proposed framework demonstrates convenience of use and effective cost saving as it does not require any technical expertise. The beauty of this web support system is that all the steps are menu driven and any non-technical user can get hold of it easily.     

A review on the taste masking of bitter APIs: hot-melt extrusion (HME) evaluation

The majority of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) found in oral dosage forms have a bitter taste. Masking the unpleasant taste of bitter, APIs is a major challenge in the development of such oral dosage forms. Taste assessment is an important quality-control parameter for evaluating taste-masked formulations of any new molecular entity. Hot-melt extrusion (HME) techniques, have very recently, been accepted from an industrial compliance viewpoint in relation to both manufacturing operations and development of pharmaceuticals. HME achieves taste masking of bitter APIs via various mechanisms such as the formation of solid dispersions and inter-molecular interactions and this has led to its wide-spread use in pharmaceutical formulation research. In this article, the uses of various taste evaluation methods and HME as continuous processing techniques for taste masking of bitter APIs used for the oral delivery of drugs are reviewed.

Eco System: an Internet commerce architecture

Robust electronic commerce will require several proprietary systems to interoperate. CommerceNet is proposing Eco System, a cross industry effort to build a framework of frameworks, involving both e-commerce vendors and end users. Eco System will consist of an extensible object oriented framework (class libraries, application programming interfaces and shared services) from which developers can assemble applications quickly from existing components. These applications could subsequently be reused in other applications. We are also developing a Common Business Language (CBL) that lets application agents communicate using messages and objects that model communications in the real business world. A network services architecture (protocols, APIs, and data formats) will insulate application agents from each other and from platform dependencies, while facilitating their interoperation. Functionally, Eco System fills three distinct roles. It is: a layer of middleware that facilitates agent interoperation through services such as authentication, billing, payment, and directories; an object oriented development environment that encourages the reuse of e-commerce modules (even modules that represent the product line of an entire company); and an industry roadmap and interoperability example that promotes open standards and helps technology vendors communicate with end users about product features     

Characterization of the impact of magnesium stearate lubrication on the tableting properties of chitin-Mg silicate as a superdisintegrating binder when compared to Avicel® 200

The influence of the lubricant magnesium stearate (MgSt) on the powder and tablet properties of chitin-Mg silicate coprecipitate was examined and compared with lubricated Avicel® 200 and Avicel-Mg silicate coprecipitate. Crushing strength and disintegration time studies were conducted in order to evaluate tablet properties at different compression pressures. Lubrication of chitin-Mg silicate powder with MgSt was evaluated using a high speed rotary tablet press. The compactability and disintegration time of chitin-Mg silicate are unaffected by the possible deleterious action of up to 2% (w/w) MgSt. The deleterious effect of MgSt on Avicel® 200 compaction was found to be minimized when magnesium silicate was coprecipitated onto Avicel® 200. Lubrication of chitin-Mg silicate with MgSt does not enhance particle agglomeration, whereas the opposite is the case for Avicel® 200; the foregoing was ascertained by measurements of the fixed bulk density, constant powder porosity using Kawakita analysis and by the absence of variation in particle size distribution in the presence of up to 5% (w/w) MgSt. In the case of chitin-Mg silicate tablets the ejection force was greatly reduced at a compression speed of 150,000 tablet/h at a MgSt concentration of 0.5% (w/w). The physical properties and drug dissolution profile of ibuprofen tablets were found to be unaffected when chitin-Mg silicate was lubricated up to 5% (w/w) with MgSt. Optimal drug dissolution was attained for gemfibrozil tablets using 3% (w/w) MgSt when compared to a reference (Lopid tablets).
