Rare earths exhibit complex magnetic phase diagrams resulting from the competition between various contributions to the magnetic energy: exchange, anisotropy and magnetostriction. The epitaxy of a rare-earth film on a substrate induces (i) a clamping to the substrate and (ii) pseudomorphic strains. Both these effects are shown to lead to modifications of the magnetic properties in (0 0 1)Dy, (0 0 1)Tb and (1 1 0)Eu films. In Dy and Tb films, spectacular variations of the Curie temperature have been evidenced. Additionally, Tb films exhibit a new large wavelength magnetic modulation. In Eu films, one of the helical magnetic domains disappears at low temperature whereas the propagation vectors of the other helices are tilted. The link between structural and magnetic properties is underlined via magnetoelastic models. Moreover, molecular beam epitaxy permits the growth of Sm in a metastable dhcp phase. The magnetic structure of dhcp Sm has been elucidated for the first time. In this review, neutron scattering is shown to be a powerful technique to reveal the magnetic structures of rare-earth films.  相似文献

Small SiC nanoparticles (10 nm diameter) have been grown in a flow reactor by CO2 laser pyrolysis from a C2H2 and SiH4 mixture. The laser radiation is strongly absorbed by SiH4 vibration. The energy is transferred to the reactive medium and leads to the dissociation of molecules and the subsequent growth of the nanoparticles. The reaction happens with a flame. The purpose of the experiments reported in this paper is to limit the size of the growing particles to the nanometric scale for which specific properties are expected to appear. Therefore the effects of experimental parameters on the structure and chemical composition of nanoparticles have been investigated. For a given reactive mixture and gas velocity, the flame temperature is governed by the laser power. In this study, the temperature was varied from 875°C to 1100°C. The chemical analysis of the products indicate that their composition is a function of the temperature. For the same C/Si atomic ratio in the gaseous phase, the C/Si ratio in the powder increases from 0.7 at 875°C up to 1.02 at 1100°C, indicating a growth mechanism limited by C2H2 dissociation. As expected, X-ray diffraction has shown an improved crystallisation with increasing temperature. Transmission electron microscopy observations have revealed the formation of 10 nm grains for all values of laser power (or flame temperature). These grains appear amorphous at low temperature, whereas they contain an increasing number of nanocrystals (2 nm diameter) when the temperature increases. These results pave the way to a better control of the structure and chemical composition of laser synthesised SiC nanoparticles in the 10 nm range.  相似文献

Highly hydrophobically modified (with n-dodecylamide chain) linear poly(acrylic acid)s (HHMPAAH) and poly(sodium acrylate)s (HHMPAANa) with various degrees of grafting (τ) were synthesized and used as emulsifiers of the n-dodecane/water system. The type of emulsion, oil in water (O/W) or water in oil (W/O), was investigated as a function of the polymer chemical structure (τ, salt or acid form of the copolymer) and aqueous phase electrolyte concentration (NaNO3). Increasing τ and/or salt concentration was found to favor the formation of inverse emulsions. Direct liquid–liquid dispersions are more likely to form with poly(sodium acrylate)s than with poly(acrylic acid)s. Hence, field variables such as τ, pH and ionic strength are relevant parameters to control emulsion type. Moreover, a balanced polyelectrolyte neither soluble in oil nor in water was synthesized for the first time. With this original emulsifier, the dispersion type was found to change from O/W to W/O with polymer salting out. The selection and quality of hops is a major determinant in beer flavour. Brewers acknowledge that distinctive characteristics of different hop varieties can be traced to the composition of their essential oils. The difficulty in characterising complex mixtures such as hop oil using 1-D chromatography is that many compounds co-elute. With the introduction of comprehensive multidimensional capillary gas chromatography (GC x GC), there is a tremendous improvement in the separation power or peak capacity. Recent work using GC x GC with flame ionisation detection has suggested that there may be over 1,000 compounds in hop oil. This work describes the use of GC x GC combined with TOFMS detection (Leco Pegasus 4D instrument) to analyse Target hop oil. The TOFMS spectral acquisition rate of 60 Hz provided sufficient spectra per peak (2-D peak base width of 0.1-0.2 s) for identification (119 components were identified with 45 previously unreported compounds). When analysing results, an advantage of GC x GC coupled to TOFMS is that 2-D chromatograms can be viewed for individual masses that are characteristic of particular functional groups. This allows the analyst to view the various homologous series of compounds although in certain cases coelution may still be present as shown by the esters with mass 75.  相似文献

The effects of the composition of a fat globule surface in reconstituted milks on the properties of rennet-induced coagulums were studied by rheological measurements and by front-face fluorescence spectroscopy in combination with a multivariate statistical method to investigate, at a molecular level, the evolution of the structure during the milk coagulation process. Reconstituted milks used in this study were prepared from different fat-in-water emulsions stabilized by whole skim-milk proteins, beta-casein, or beta-lactoglobulin. Coagulation of milk reconstituted with natural fat globules was also investigated. The study showed that the fat droplet/water interface influences the rheological properties (G' modulus) of the reconstituted milks during the coagulation process. The tryptophan fluorescence emission spectra of proteins were recorded during the kinetics of coagulation. The results of the principal component analysis performed on the spectral data showed a discrimination in the different systems investigated. It was shown that the fluorescence properties of protein tryptophans and, consequently, the structures of the protein networks were different for the investigated systems. The development of fluorescence transfer between protein tryptophans and fat-globule vitamin A during the coagulation kinetics agreed with the interactions between the protein network and fat globules. In order to study absorption line profiles using the stabilized diode laser spectrometer of Laboratoire de Physique Moléculaire et Applications (LPMA), a reliable determination of the emission line shape of different diodes laser is needed. In the near infrared region (1.39 and 1.66 microm) we used Distributed Feed Back diode lasers which operate around room temperature and in the middle infrared (5 and 8 microm) we used lead salt diode lasers cooled in a helium closed cycle cryostat or in a liquid nitrogen dewar. Some results obtained in H2O line profile studies in the 1.39 and 5 microm regions are presented as examples demonstrating how absorption line profile measurements can lead to erroneous values of the spectroscopic parameters when the contribution of the diode laser emission line width is neglected.  相似文献

Two methods for the sampling and analysis of tar produced from wood pyrolysis were compared. The first method used a conventional cold-trapping technique in solvent-filled impingers followed by liquid injection. The second one is a new application of multibed solid-phase adsorbent (SPA) tubes followed by thermal desorption (TD). Both methods are based on gas chromatography (GC) coupled with mass spectrometry (MS). Quantification was performed with a well reproducible GC-MS method with three internal deuterated standards. The SPA/TD method offers several advantages. No solvent is required, the detection levels are improved, and gas chromatography separation is easier. Moreover, sampling time is reduced from about 1h (for the conventional cold-trapping technique in impingers) to a few seconds. No discrimination was observed between the two sampling methods for the 10 quantified compounds (aromatic compounds from benzene to phenanthrene and phenols) except for benzene.  相似文献

A method combining surface plasmon resonance and epitope mapping was developed to study the protein conformation at the oil/water interface of an emulsion. The conformation of beta-lactoglobulin stabilizing dodecane/water and miglyol/water interfaces was investigated using five anti-beta-lactoglobulin monoclonal antibodies. The developed method allows us to specifically recognize the emulsified beta-lactoglobulin at the surface of a sensor chip with good repeatability; i.e., standard deviations range between 0.7 and 3.6%. Considering that the monoclonal antibodies, recognizing conformational epitopes, still bind to beta-lactoglobulin at oil/water interfaces, it is concluded that the protein retains a globular conformation. It is shown that the inhibition-binding values of two pairs of Mabs are different for beta-lactoglobulin stabilizing dodecane/water and miglyol/water interfaces. This indicates that the conformations of emulsified beta-lactoglobulin are slightly different according to the nature of the oil phase. Copyright 2000 Academic Press.  相似文献
