Exclusion limits on the WIMP-nucleon cross section from the cryogenic dark matter search

The Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (CDMS) employs Ge and Si detectors to search for weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) via their elastic-scattering interactions with nuclei while discriminating against interactions of background particles. CDMS data, accounting for the neutron background, give limits on the spin-independent WIMP-nucleon elastic-scattering cross section that exclude unexplored parameter space above 10 GeV/c2 WIMP mass and, at >75% C.L., the entire 3sigma allowed region for the WIMP signal reported by the DAMA experiment.     

A micro-sampling method for the determination of blood lead

The analytical micromethod discussed here has been found to be very rapid, accurate, and relatively inexpensive for the determination of blood and urine leads. It has the distinct advantage in that a determination can be repeated. The sensitivity of the method is 1.37 × 10^?10 g per 1% absorption at 283.3 nm. Our laboratories have analyzed 7353 specimens in duplicate or more from March 17, 1971 to April 30, 1972.Considering the many possible sources of contamination (the mobile unit being more so than a clinic) it is the Division of Chemistry's conclusion that an agreement of 84% is good and that a finger-stick method is feasible, and therefore, a complete micro-screening for blood lead is possible.     

A limit on the lepton-family number violating process π → μe

A FNAL E799 Collaboration has carried out a search for the lepton-family number violating decay π⁰ → μ^±e using π⁰'s produced from K_L → π⁰π⁰π⁰ decays in flight. No events were observed. Assuming that lepton-family number violation is charge independent, the 90% confidence level upper limit on

Fusion properties of certain steroid hormones and related compounds

Summary The fusion properties of threecorpus luteum, six testes, five steroid estrogens, two gluco corticoids, one adrenal cortex, and two unclassified steroids were determined. These data afford rapid and positive identification of these compounds and only minute amounts of material are required.

Résumé On a déterminé les propriétés au cours de la fusion de trois stéroïdes du corps jaune, six steroïdes des testicules, cinq stéroïdes oestrogènes, deux gluco-corticostéroïdes, un stéroïde cortico-surrénal et deux stéroïdes non classés.
