Circular dichroism spectra of langasite family crystals in the range of electronic transitions of structure defects

The absorption and circular dichroism spectra of langasite family crystals are studied. Wide bands in the range of 285–500 nm that are related to the structure lattice defects are found. For all the crystals, these bands are in approximately the same spectral region, have identical structures, and can be attributed to one type of defects formed by cation vacancies and excess oxygen atoms in the optically active positions.

Spin squeezing and quantum correlations

We discuss the notion of spin squeezing considering two mutually exclusive classes of spin-s states, namely, oriented and non-oriented states. Our analysis shows that the oriented states are not squeezed while non-oriented states exhibit squeezing. We also present a new scheme for construction of spin-s states using 2s spinors oriented along different axes. Taking the case of s=1, we show that the ‘non-oriented’ nature and hence squeezing arise from the intrinsic quantum correlations that exist among the spinors in the coupled state.     

Theory of ferromagnetism in doped excitonic condensates

Nesting in a semimetal can lead to an excitonic-insulator state with spontaneous coherence between conduction and valence bands and a gap for charged excitations. We present a theory of the ferromagnetic state that occurs when the density of electrons in the conduction band and holes in the valence band differ. We find an unexpectedly rich doping-field phase diagram and an unusual collective excitation spectrum that includes two gapless collective modes. We predict regions of doping and external field in which phase-separated condensates of electrons and holes with parallel spins and opposing spins coexist.     

Solubility of <Emphasis Type="Italic">d</Emphasis>-elements salts in organic and aqueous-organic solvents: IV. Solubility of cadmium chloride

Solubility of cadmium chloride at 25°C in four ternary systems containing mixed water-organic solvents was measured by the isothermal saturation method. Dimethyl sulfoxide, N,N-dimethylacetamide, N,N-dimethylformamide, and 1,4-dioxane were used as organic components. In all systems the organic component addition provides a salting-out effect within the whole range of the binary solvent compositions.     

Anion influence on the solution-solid phase equilibria in the MX<Subscript>2</Subscript>-NEt<Subscript>4</Subscript>X-H<Subscript>2</Subscript>O systems (M = Cd,Cu, Co; X = Cl,Br) at 25°C

Solubility of the ternary systems M-NEt₄Cl-H₂O (M = Cd, Cu, Co) at 25°C was determined by the method of isothermal saturation. Compositions and fields of crystallization of solid compounds in equilibrium with a liquid phase were determined. Changes in the processes of hydration, association of tetraethyl ammonium salts, and acido-complex formation of d-element ions on the replacement of a halide anion affect the solution-solid phase equilibria in the studied systems.
