Mercury Compounds with Cyancarbanions. II Synthesis and Crystal Structure of Dimercury(I)-bis(1,1,3,3-tetracyanpropenide) The structure of dimercury(I)-bis(1,1,3,3-tetracyanpropenide), Hg₂(tcp)₂, has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods. The crystals are monoclinic, space group P 2₁/n. The unit cell dimensions are: a = 9.9193(3) Å, b = 5.6912(6) Å, c = 13.3806(4), β = 92.544(4)° and Z = 2. The mercury atoms in the centrosymmetric cation are three-coordinate with Hg? Hg 2.503, Hg? N 2.207, 2.207, 2.560 Å. tcp behaves as a bidentate ligand forming infinite chains running parallel to the a-axis.

Crystal Structures of Dimercuri (I) Salts of p- and m-Sulfanilic Acids The crystal structures of the compounds Hg₂(p-H₂N–C₆H₄–SO₃)₂ ( 1 ), Hg₂(m-H₂N–C₆H₄–SO₃)₂ ( 2 ), and Hg₂(m-H₂N–C₆H₄–SO₃)₂ · 2H₂O ( 3 ) contain leaf-structures ( 1 and 3 ) or chain-structures ( 2 ), with nearly linear groups N–Hg–Hg–N, Hg–O-contacts and hydrogen-bridging bonds. The smaller density of 3 compared with 1 –caused by the steric hindrance through the ligand – declared the incorporation of water for raising the stabilising interaction in the crystals. The compound 3 is the kinetic controlled, the compound 2 the thermodynamic controlled product.

Über Dicyanothiocyanatomercurate(II) der Erdalkalimetalle

On the Dicyanothiocyanatomercurates(II) of the Alkaline-earth Metals The reactions between Hg(CN)₂ and M(NCS)₂ · nH₂O (M = Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba; n = 3, 4) in aqueous solutions lead to the compounds M[Hg(CN)₂SCN]₂ · 4 H₂O. The compounds yielded by crystallization are characterized with x-ray, spectroscopic, and thermal methods. The crystal structures of Mg[Hg(CN)₂SCN]₂ · 4 H₂O and Sr[Hg(CN)₂SCN]₂ · 4 H₂O have been determined by x-ray structure analysis. These structures can be compared with the compounds M′Hg(CN)₂SCN (M′ = K, Rb, Cs).
