Using an information-theoretic approach, causality between the systolic amplitude in blood pressure and the frequency of the heart beat was analyzed. Blood pressure and ECG were noninvasively recorded in young, healthy subjects. Three successive measurements were performed: during spontaneous breathing and during paced respiration—at frequencies both higher and lower than that of spontaneous respiration. We demonstrate that the amplitude and frequency of the cardiac rhythm are synchronized for most of the time. The synchronization is stronger during paced respiration at a frequency lower than that of spontaneous breathing. Episodes where the cardiac frequency was driven by the systolic pressure were also detected during slow, paced respiration.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The aim of the study was to investigate the inhibitory control of an ongoing motor response and to identify underlying neural deficiencies, manifested in event-related potentials, that cause poorer inhibitory performance in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. METHODS: A stop-signal paradigm with a primary visual task and auditory stop signal was used to compare performance in 13 children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and 13 control children, while event-related potentials were recorded simultaneously. RESULTS: Children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder showed poorer inhibitory performance through a slower inhibitory process. Inhibitory processing of auditory stop signals was marked by a frontal N2 component that was reduced in the attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder group relative to controls. A central positive component (P3) was associated with the success of inhibiting a response, but there were no group differences in its amplitude or latency. CONCLUSIONS: Findings support the hypothesis of deficient inhibitory control in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Slower inhibitory processing appears to be due to a specific neural deficiency that manifests in the processing of the stop signal as attenuated negativity in the N2 latency range.  相似文献

Molecular mismatch analysis for assessment of histocompatibility in transplantation requires high-resolution HLA typing. Algorithms to “guesstimate” high-resolution from low-resolution typing exist, but their accuracy remains unknown. We converted high-resolution, sequence-based, HLA typing of 310 subjects from an ethnically heterogeneous population to low-resolution equivalents and tested the ability of the NMDP HaploStats and HLA Matchmaker programs to impute/reproduce the measured high-resolution HLA type, using the more common “winner-takes-all” approach. Only 35.6% of the HaploStats imputed HLA-A, -B, -C, -DRB1, and -DQB1 haplotypes had no mistakes, and the accuracy was significantly lower for non-Caucasians (29.1%) compared to Caucasians (45.2%) (odds ratio [OR], 0.5; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.3-0.8; P = .004). HLA Matchmaker was not able to provide high-resolution haplotypes for 45.2% of Caucasian subjects and 63.5% of non-Caucasian subjects (P = .002). Of those with an imputed result, only 10.3% of Caucasians and 4.8% of non-Caucasians had accurate 10-allele high-resolution output. Eplet analysis revealed additional, inaccurate eplets in 37% of individuals, with 22.5% showing at least 2 additional, inaccurate eplets; incorrect eplets were more common among non-Caucasians (OR, 1.8; 95% CI, 1.1-2.9; P = .018). Given this high error rate, caution should be taken before using imputation tools for clinical or research purposes, especially for non-Caucasian individuals.  相似文献

PURPOSE: Combining heat with antineoplastic drugs has produced evidence of antitumor synergism. An increasing number of trials are investigating whole body hyperthermia (WBH) in combination with chemotherapy in patients with advanced malignancies. Here we investigated whether the hyperdynamic state of the circulation as a consequence of WBH may stimulate dissemination of malignant cells. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: WBH in combination with chemotherapy was administered by a radiant heat device to 20 consecutive patients with advanced epithelial malignancies. One WBH session lasted for approximately 4 h (90 min heating time, 60 min plateau at 41.8 degrees C, and 60-80 min cooling). Peripheral blood was drawn before WBH treatment (baseline), at the end of the plateau (1 h), and 24 h and 48 h thereafter. After removal of leukocytes using anti-CD45 magnetic beads, circulating tumor cells were detected immunocytochemically using the monoclonal antibody A45-B/B3, which binds to a common epitope present on various cytokeratins. RESULTS: The method used to detect tumor cells in the peripheral blood proved to be specific and very sensitive (detection limit 1 tumor cell per 1.7 x 10(5) peripheral blood mononuclear cell). Before WBH, 6 of 20 patients had cyto-keratin-positive cells in their blood. A treatment-induced increase in the number of circulating tumor cells became statistically significant at 24 h after WBH (P = 0.043) and was detected in a total of 9 patients, 5 of whom had no detectable malignant cells at baseline. There was no evidence of a correlation between an increase in the number of circulating tumor cells and increased metastasis frequency. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that WBH might induce a temporary release of tumor cells into the circulation, but this spread appears to be clinically not significant in patients with advanced malignancies.  相似文献

The aim of the presented study was a comparative analysis of the polymerization kinetics of dental resin-based composites currently used in dentistry in different environmental conditions (irradiance, activation time, layer thickness). The photopolymerization kinetics of eleven dental resins were investigated using a Woodpecker LED source. The DC was measured by FTIR in transmission mode and attenuated total reflection (ATR) from 5 s to 7 days. In the transmission mode, the spectra from parallel optical layers (about 0.2 mm thick) of samples placed between the KBr crystals were recorded. In the reflection mode, an ATR attachment with a diamond window was used. The DC calculation method was applied based on the application of a monomer absorption band at 1638 cm−1 (stretching vibration double bond C=C of the vinyl group) without using a reference band. The data were analyzed by performing an ANOVA test comparison between sample groups at the significance level α = 0.05. For all tested materials, the polymerization kinetics consist of three stages. The fastest stage occurs during the irradiation, and the achieved DC value is 70–75% of the maximum value 5 s after the irradiation. Another 15–20% DC increase at a moderate speed takes about 15–20 min. There is also a very slow further increase in DC of 5–10% within 5 days after irradiation. For 8 out of the 11 tested fillings, the optimal photopolymerization conditions are as follows: a power density of 400 or 1000 mW/cm2; an exposure time of 10 s; and a thickness of the irradiated resin layer of up to 2 mm. The influence of various conditions and factors on the reaction kinetics is dominant only in the early, rapid phase of the conversion. After longer times, the DC values gradually level out under different light conditions. The DC of the dental resins are dependent on the irradiance, light source, filler type, time after irradiance, and monomer thickness.  相似文献

The research presented in this article aimed to obtain a semi-finished product in the form of TRIP wires, which in further research will be used to produce fasteners in the form of KPS-6 screws used in the construction industry. At present, the process of manufacturing this type of fastener (from wire rod to the finished product) involves two technological lines: one for carrying out the drawing process and obtaining a semi-finished product in the form of a wire with appropriate properties, and the other for the production of fasteners. Semi-finished product wires with a ferritic-perlitic structure obtained after the drawing process are the starting product for the production of fasteners, the tensile strength of which is approximately 450 MPa. In order to be able to obtain fasteners characterized by an increased level of properties in 8.8 grade, after the screw manufacturing process, heat treatment should be carried out by hardening and tempering. The new technology proposed in the article includes: a drawing wire rod with a semi-finished product diameter, two-stage heat treatment on the line for pass-through heating and cooling, ensuring the obtaining of a TRIP-type structure in drawn wires, and calibration drawing. The product of this process was a wire whose tensile strength was in the range of 700–800 MPa with a TRIP structure. Thanks to obtaining a TRIP-type structure with the assumed amount of retained austenite, we obtained wires with higher strength properties and very high plasticity in relation to wires with the same chemical composition and ferritic and perlitic structure. The research carried out in the article also allowed us to obtain, in the semi-finished product wires, a favourable relationship between the strength properties and plasticity of the material, expressed by the value of the Re/Rm coefficient (yield strength/tensile strength) and the so-called yield ratio, which determines the material′s susceptibility to cold deformation; the smaller these coefficients, the greater the yield strength. The subsequent stages of the research will include the development of forming fasteners in the form of KPS-6 screws used in the steel construction industry with TRIP structures, with increased properties of products in the 8.8 property class, without conducting heat treatment by hardening and tempering. It is assumed that the resulting product will have an additional usable feature: preserving a certain amount of retained austenite in the structure of the finished fasteners, which will be transformed into martensite during operation, and thus affect the longevity of the fasteners.  相似文献

(1) Background: The aim of this study was to assess the concentrations of selected elements in female patients with cancer of the reproductive organs, taking into account the stage of treatment. (2) Methods: The study sample consisted of 51 patients with advanced endometrial cancer and ovarian cancer, undergoing chemotherapy. The median age of the studied patients with endometrial cancer was 66.0 years (IQR: from 60.75 to 70.25), and with ovarian cancer―60.0 years (IQR: from 49.0 to 64.0). Each of the qualified women, after consent to participate in the study, had her blood drawn several times (before surgery, the first course of chemotherapy, the third course of chemotherapy, and the sixth course of chemotherapy) in order to determine serum levels of macro- and micronutrients (Na, Mg, Ca, Zn, P, Cu, Fe, Cd, Ni, and Sr). (3) Results: In the study group of patients with cancer of the reproductive tract, the concentrations of iron (<0.001), magnesium (0.038), sodium (0.014), and nickel (0.037) varied significantly over the course of the study. The analysis showed that the interaction between the stage of chemotherapy and the type of cancer had an effect on the concentrations of magnesium and cadmium (p < 0.05). (4) Conclusions: In the studied group of patients with ovarian and endometrial cancer, the applied chemotherapy significantly changed the concentrations of Fe, Na, and Ni, regardless of the type of tumor. Changes in Mg and Cd concentrations resulted from the interaction between the stage of chemotherapy and the type of cancer. The results of serum concentrations of selected elements in women with cancer of the reproductive organs may help understand the physiological changes resulting from the applied chemotherapy.  相似文献

Monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) is a benign condition with an approximate 1% annual risk of symptomatic plasma cell disorder development, mostly to multiple myeloma (MM). We performed genomewide screening of copy‐number alterations (CNAs) in 90 MGUS and 33 MM patients using high‐density DNA microarrays. We identified CNAs in a smaller proportion of MGUS (65.6%) than in MM (100.0%, P = 1.31 × 10?5) and showed median number of CNAs is lower in MGUS (3, range 0–22) than in MM (13, range 4–38, P = 1.82 × 10?10). In the MGUS cohort, the most frequent losses were located at 1p (5.6%), 6q (6.7%), 13q (30.0%), 14q (14.4%), 16q (8.9%), 21q (5.6%), and gains at 1q (23.3%), 2p (6.7%), 6p (13.3%), and Xq (7.8%). Hyperdiploidy was detected in 38.9% of MGUS cases, and the most frequent whole chromosome gains were 3 (25.6%), 5 (23.3%), 9 (37.8%), 15 (23.3%), and 19 (32.2%). We also identified CNAs such as 1p, 6q, 8p, 12p, 13q, 16q losses, 1q gain and hypodiploidy, which are potentially associated with an adverse prognosis in MGUS. In summary, we showed that MGUS is similar to MM in that it is a genetically heterogeneous disorder, but overall cytogenetic instability is lower than in MM, which confirms that genetic abnormalities play important role in monoclonal gammopathies.  相似文献

Spectral analysis of the laser Doppler flow (LDF) signal in the frequency interval from 0.0095-2.0 Hz reveals blood flow oscillations with frequencies around 1.0, 0.3, 0.1, 0.04 and 0.01 Hz. The heartbeat, the respiration, the intrinsic myogenic activity of vascular smooth muscle, the neurogenic activity of the vessel wall and the vascular endothelium influence these oscillations, respectively. The first aim of this study was to investigate if a slow oscillatory component could be detected in the frequency area below 0.0095 Hz of the human cutaneous blood perfusion signal. Unstimulated basal blood skin perfusion and enhanced perfusion during iontophoresis with the endothelium-dependent vasodilator acetylcholine (ACh) and the endothelium-independent vasodilator sodium nitroprusside (SNP) were measured in healthy male volunteers and the wavelet transform was computed. A low-frequency oscillation between 0.005 and 0.0095 Hz was found both during basal conditions and during iontophoresis with ACh and SNP. Iontophoresis with ACh increased the normalized amplitude to a greater extent than SNP (P = 0.001) indicating modulation by the vascular endothelium. To gain further insight into the mechanisms for this endothelium dependency, we inhibited nitric oxide (NO) synthesis with N(G)-monomethyl-L-arginine (L-NMMA) and prostaglandin (PG) synthesis by aspirin. L-NMMA did not affect the increased response to ACh vs. SNP iontophoresis in the 0.005-0.0095-Hz interval (P = 0.006) but abolished the difference in the 0.0095-0.021-Hz interval (P = 0.97). Aspirin did not affect the difference in response to ACh and SNP in either of the two frequency intervals. Thus, other endothelial mechanisms, such as endothelium-derived hyperpolarizing factor (EDHF), might be involved in the regulation of this sixth frequency interval (0.005-0.0095 Hz).  相似文献
