We study a nonlinear fluid–structure interaction (FSI) problem between an incompressible, viscous fluid and a composite elastic structure consisting of two layers: a thin layer (membrane) in direct contact with the fluid, and a thick layer (3D linearly elastic structure) sitting on top of the thin layer. The coupling between the fluid and structure, and the coupling between the two structures is achieved via the kinematic and dynamic coupling conditions modeling no-slip and balance of forces, respectively. The coupling is evaluated at the moving fluid–structure interface with mass, i.e., the thin structure. To solve this nonlinear moving-boundary problem in 3D, a monolithic, fully implicit method was developed, and combined with an arbitrary Lagrangian–Eulerian approach to deal with the motion of the fluid domain. This class of problems and its generalizations are important in e.g., modeling FSI between blood flow and arterial walls, which are known to be composed of several different layers, each with different mechanical characteristics and thickness. By using this model we show how multi-layered structure of arterial walls influences the pressure wave propagation in arterial walls, and how the presence of atheroma and the presence of a vascular device called stent, influence intramural strain distribution throughout different layers of the arterial wall. The detailed intramural strain distribution provided by this model can be used in conjunction with ultrasound B-mode scans as a predictive tool for an early detection of atherosclerosis (Zahnd et al. in IEEE international on ultrasonics symposium (IUS), pp 1770–1773, 2011).  相似文献

The goal of this work was to investigate a possible way of crosslinking polymer chains and the potential formation of intramolecular hydrogen bonds in thermosensitive poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide‐co‐2‐hydroxypropyl methacrylate) (p(NIPAM‐HPMet)) hydrogels obtained by radical polymerization. The chemical structure of the synthesized hydrogels was investigated by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and XRD. The FTIR spectrum confirmed the presence of hydrogen bonds formed between the chains in the copolymer. XRD analysis confirmed the amorphous ? crystalline structure of the copolymer. A three‐glass transition and two melting temperatures were detected by DSC. It was found that the addition of HPMet increased the glass transition and melting temperatures of the p(NIPAM‐HPMet) copolymer. The swelling transport mechanism of p(NIPAM‐HPMet) changed from non‐Fickian at 20 °C to case III or zero‐order time‐independent kinetics characterized by a linear mass uptake with time with increasing temperature at 40 °C. © 2013 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Objective: This study explored verbal semantic and episodic memory in children with unilateral temporal lobe epilepsy to determine whether they had impairments in both or only 1 aspect of memory, and to examine relations between performance in the 2 domains. Method: Sixty-six children and adolescents (37 with seizures of left temporal lobe onset, 29 with right-sided onset) were given 4 tasks assessing different aspects of semantic memory (picture naming, fluency, knowledge of facts, knowledge of word meanings) and 2 episodic memory tasks (story recall, word list recall). Results: High rates of impairments were observed across tasks, and no differences were found related to the laterality of the seizures. Individual patient analyses showed that there was a double dissociation between the 2 aspects of memory in that some children were impaired on episodic but not semantic memory, whereas others showed intact episodic but impaired semantic memory. Conclusions: This double dissociation suggests that these 2 memory systems may develop independently in the context of temporal lobe pathology, perhaps related to differential effects of dysfunction in the lateral and mesial temporal lobe structures. Inhibition efficiency of calcium gluconate, alone and in blends with sodium benzoate, on the corrosion of carbon steel in chloride solutions has been assessed by potentiodynamic polarization measurements and mass loss detection in the temperature range from 25 to 70 °C. Sodium benzoate efficient in hindering the general corrosion in chloride solutions can induce pitting of carbon steel. Along with decreasing the general corrosion calcium gluconate, an ecologically acceptable compound, eliminated the susceptibility to pitting formation. The inhibition of the anodic reaction by gluconate and benzoate, and the slowing down the cathodic reaction in solutions of calcium gluconate was confirmed.  相似文献
