Using conventional high‐temperature superconducting wire, a model superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) is made and tested. Solenoid coil using Bi2223 silver sheath wire is so made that inductance is as small as possible and a vacuum interrupter is connected in series to it. A conventional reactor coil is connected in parallel. When the fault current flows in this equipment, superconducting wire is quenched and current is transferred into the parallel coil because of voltage drop of superconducting wire. This large current in parallel coil actuates magnetic repulsion mechanism of vacuum interrupter. Due to opening of vacuum interrupter, the current in superconducting wire is broken. By using this equipment, current flow time in superconducting wire can be easily minimized. On the other hand, the fault current is also easily limited by large reactance of parallel coil. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel diagram which describes the condition of 3 dB coupler is proposed. Using the proposed diagram, the design of a wavelength-flattened 3 dB directional coupler composed of a uniform coupled waveguide is investigated. Normalized waveguide parameters are introduced to characterize a five-layer planar waveguide. This enables us to generalize the discussion and to reduce the number of parameters required for characterizing a coupled waveguide. Various aspects of our communication are well known to have changed over time (1-3). This article describes a cross-sectional study that examined the acoustic characteristics of two groups of Australian women aged 18-25 years from recordings made in 1945 and 1993 and investigated the possible changes in the voice across generations. Archival recordings from 1945 which had been used in a longitudinal study (4) were compared to recordings made in 1993. The results of this study show that women in 1993 have significantly deeper voices than women of the same age recorded in 1945. The possible factors influencing this change are discussed. 相似文献

Polyphenyleneoxide was blended in amounts of 5 or 10 wt% into petroleum-derived mesophase pitch to reinforce the pitch fibre before the oxidative stabilization to achieve better handling properties. Although polyphenyleneoxide was fusible but hardly soluble in the mesophase pitch even at a spinning temperature of 350° C, blended pitch could be smoothly spun into pitch fibre 10m diameter, as could the parent pitch. Fibrous polyphenyleneoxide of less than 1m diameter was homogeneously dispersed in the pitch fibre, being arranged along the fibre axis. Such fibrous polyp henyleneoxide reinforced the pitch fibre considerably. The fibrous substances at the centre of the fibre disappeared in the carbonized fibre at 1300° C after oxidation at 250° C, although some short ones were observed in the skin region of the fibre, suggesting that polyphenyleneoxide was co-carbonized to be assimilated with mesophase pitch at the centre of the fibre, where the effects of oxidation may be rather limited. The oxidation reactivity and its mechanical strength after carbonization were slightly lower in comparison with those of the parent mesophase pitch. 相似文献

The Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) is a research facility instrument launched on NASA's Terra spacecraft in December 1999. Spectral indices, a kind of orthogonal transformation in the five-dimensional space formed by the five ASTER short-wave-infrared (SWIR) bands, were proposed for discrimination and mapping of surface rock types. These include Alunite Index, Kaolinite Index, Calcite Index, and Montmorillonite Index, and can be calculated by linear combination of reflectance values of the five SWIR bands. The transform coefficients were determined so as to direct transform axes to the average spectral pattern of the typical minerals. The spectral indices were applied to the simulated ASTER dataset of Cuprite, Nevada, USA after converting its digital numbers to surface reflectance. The resultant spectral index images were useful for lithologic mapping and were easy to interpret geologically. An advantage of this method is that we can use the pre-determined transform coefficients, as long as image data are converted to surface reflectance. 相似文献

Benzene solutions of poly(phenylisopropenyl ketone) (PPIK), of copolymers of PIK and styrene and of phenyl-t-butyl ketone (pivalophenone) were irradiated with light flashes (duration 25 nsec) at wavelength 347 nm. The spectra observed at the end of the flash were attributed to the triplet state (T-T-spectra). A fraction of the triplets in the polymers was deactivated by T-T annihilation, as evidenced by lifetimes decreasing with increasing absorbed dose rate. Upon extrapolation to zero intensity the following triplet decay rate constants KT were obtained:.In PPIK and pivalophenone the dominant chemical route of triplet deactivation is α-cleavage. The relatively high kT value found with PPIK is presumably due to next neighbour interaction. In copolymers with a high content of isolated PIK units type I processes (α-cleavage) become less probable due to weak next neighbour influence. Thus type II processes dominate in copolymers although being slower than type I processes in homo PPIK. The rate constant of the reaction of PIK triplets in homo PPIK with 2-propanol in benzene solution is (2.0 ± 0.2)106 l/mol sec, whereas pivalophenone triplets react almost 10 times slower with 2-propanol. The difference is assumed to be due to a rather strong interaction of 2-propanol with ground state as well as with excited pivalophenone. 相似文献

The design, synthesis, and bioevaluation of fluorescence- and biotin-labeled CXCR4 antagonists are described. The modification of D-Lys8 at an epsilon-amino group in the peptide antagonist Ac-TZ14011 derived from polyphemusin II had no significant influence on the potent binding of the peptide to the CXCR4 receptor. The application of the labeled peptides in flow cytometry and confocal microscopy studies demonstrated the selectivity of their binding to the CXCR4 receptor, but not to CXCR7, which was recently reported to be another receptor for stromal cell-derived factor 1 (SDF-1)/CXCL12. 相似文献

The tensile properties and fracture behavior of different carbon nanotube (CNT)-grafted polyacrylonitrile-based (T1000GB) single carbon fibers were investigated. Grafting of CNTs was achieved via chemical vapor deposition (CVD). When Fe(C5H5)2 (also applied via CVD) was used as the catalyst, the tensile strength and Weibull modulus of the carbon fibers were improved, possibly due to the growth of dense CNT networks on the carbon fibers, which may have led to a reduction in the number of strength-limiting defects. Separately, at lower concentrations of an Fe(NO3)3·9H2O catalyst in ethanol, which was applied via dipping, the tensile strength of CNT-grafted fibers was nearly identical to that of the as-received fibers, although the Weibull modulus was higher. For higher concentrations of the Fe(NO3)3·9H2O catalyst, however, the tensile strength and the Weibull modulus were lower than those for the as-received material. Although the density of the CNT network increased with the concentration of the Fe(NO3)3·9H2O catalyst in the ethanol solution, heating of the ethanolic Fe(NO3)3·9H2O catalyst solution generated nitric acid (HNO3) due to decomposition, which damaged the fiber surfaces, resulting in an increase in the number of flaws and consequently a reduction in the tensile strength. Therefore, the tensile strength and Weibull modulus of CNT-grafted carbon fibers vary due to the combination of these effects and as a function of the catalyst concentration. 相似文献

Carbon fibers are widely used as reinforcements in composite materials because of their high specific strength and modulus. Today, a number of ultrahigh strength polyacrylonitrile (PAN)-based (more than 6?GPa), and ultrahigh modulus pitch-based (more than 900?GPa) carbon fibers have been commercially available. In contrast, carbon nanotube (CNT) with the extremely high tensile strength have attracted attention as reinforcements. An interesting technique to modify the carbon fiber is CNT grafting on the carbon fiber surface. CNT-grafted carbon fibers offer the opportunity to add the potential benefits of nanoscale reinforcement to well-established fibrous composites to create micro-nano multiscale hybrid composites. In the present study, the tensile properties of CNT grown on T1000GB PAN- and K13D pitch-based carbon fibers have been investigated. Single filament tensile test at gauge lengths of 1, 5, and 25?mm were conducted. The effect of gauge length on tensile strength and Weibull modulus of CNT-grafted PAN- and pitch-based carbon fibers were evaluated. It was found that grafting of CNT improves the tensile strength and Weibull modulus of PAN- and pitch-based carbon fibers with longer gauge length (≥5?mm). The results also clearly show that for CNT-grafted and as-received PAN- and pitch-based carbon fibers, there is a linear relation between the Weibull modulus and the average tensile strength on log–log scale. 相似文献

Crystallization processes of amorphous Fe–Si layers have been investigated using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Si(1 1 1) substrates were irradiated with 120 keV Fe ions at ?150 °C to a fluence of 1.0 × 1017 cm2. An Fe-rich amorphous layer embedded in an amorphous Si was formed in the as-irradiated sample. Plan-view TEM observations revealed that a part of the amorphous Fe–Si layer crystallized to the metastable α-FeSi2 after thermal annealing at 350 °C for 8 h. The lattice parameter of c-axis decreased with thermal annealing. It was considered that the change in the lattice parameter originates from the decrease of the Fe occupancy at (0, 0, 1/2) and its equivalent positions in the unit cell of the metastable α-FeSi2. 相似文献
