Traditional West African pearl millet couscous products are popular; however, their preparation is laborious, time-consuming and energy-demanding, involving agglomeration, steaming, drying and sieving steps. In this study, a process was developed to produce millet couscous using a high pressure, high temperature and low-cost single-screw extruder. The innovation was to directly process the cooked low-moisture extrudate to a couscous product by drying and milling to the appropriate particle size (ranging between 1 and 2 mm). Throughput for the traditional process as prepared for commercial sale is 50 kg per day, but with the same amount of labour, the extrusion process yields ~350 kg per day. A consumer sensory study held in Niamey (Niger) showed that the extruded millet couscous was comparable to traditional couscous, though this was dependent on selection of the proper millet variety. This novel extrusion process could stimulate small- to medium-scale manufacturing of couscous and couscous-type products in West Africa.  相似文献

Intracellular and whole-cell patch-clamp recordings were used to evaluate the actions of different metabotropic glutamate receptor (mGluR) agonists on the synaptic inputs evoked on principal cells of the rat mesencephalon. Bath application of the group III mGluR agonists L-2-amino-4-phosphonobutyric acid (L-AP4) and L-serine-O-phosphonobutanoate (L-SOP) did not change the holding current of the cells held at resting potential (-60 mV) but produced a dose-dependent inhibition of the amplitude of the excitatory and inhibitory events. L-AP4 and L-SOP were more effective at inhibiting the excitatory postsynaptic currents (EPSCs) than the GABA(A) and GABA(B) inhibitory postsynaptic currents (IPSCs). The suppressing effects of L-AP4 and L-SOP were antagonized by (S)-2-amino-2-methyl-4-phosphonobutanoic acid (MAP-4) but not by +/- -alpha-methyl-4-carboxyphenylglycine (MCPG). Moreover, the group II agonist (2S,1'S,2'S)-(carboxycyclopropyl)glycine (L-CCG1) and the group I agonist (RS)-3,5-dihydrophenylglycine (3,5-DHPG) depressed in a dose-related manner the EPSC, the GABA(A) IPSC and the GABA(B) IPSC. The suppressing effect of the two mGluRs agonists was partially antagonized by MCPG but not by MAP-4. In addition, both L-CCG1 and 3,5-DHPG caused an inward shift of the holding current. To characterize the site of action of the metabotropic receptor agonists, experiments were performed to examine the amplitude and ratio of EPSC and GABA(A) IPSC pairs. The increase of the s2/s1 ratio caused by the agonists suggests that the location of the inhibitory mGluRs was presynaptic. These results indicate that the activation of presynaptic mGluRs controls the release of excitatory and inhibitory transmitters on presumed dopaminergic cells within the ventral mesencephalon.  相似文献

We analysed a well-characterized group of 83 patients (43 men, 40 women; mean age +/- SEM: 65.5 +/- 0.6 years at the 10-year examination) with non-insulin-dependent (Type 2) diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) and in 123 control subjects (56 men, 67 women; mean age +/- 0.9 years) retrospectively for the relationship of apolipoprotein E (apo E) genotypes (E2/3, E3/3 vs E3/4, E4/4) to the incidence of clinical macrovascular disease and its risk factors and the incidence of microvascular complications of diabetes during the first 10 years of NIDDM, as well as carotid intima-media thickness measured by B-mode ultrasound at the 10-year examination. In patients with NIDDM, apo E4 genotype showed no relationship to clinical events or carotid intima-media thickness. However, in the control subjects with apo E4, the incidence of non-fatal myocardial infarction during the follow-up was increased (apo E4 positivity: 17.1%; apo E4 negativity 5.1%; p = 0.035) and they had higher common carotid intima-media thickness than those with apo E2/3 or apo E3/3 (1.15 +/- 0.05 mm vs 1.01 +/- 0.03 mm, p = 0.008). Apo E genotype groups showed no relationship to microvascular complications of diabetes, although control subjects with apo E4 positivity showed a higher frequency of microalbuminuria than those lacking apo E4. We conclude that apo E4 was a marker of vascular disease and increased atherosclerosis in non-diabetic subjects, whereas in the diabetic patients these relationships were absent. It is likely that NIDDM per se influences the vascular risk so overwhelmingly that the effects of other risk factors are obscured.  相似文献

We investigated the effect of changes in membrane-voltage on intracellular sodium concentration ([Na+]i) of dopamine-sensitive neurons of the substantia nigra pars compacta in a slice preparation of rat mesencephalon. Whole-cell patch-clamp techniques were combined with microfluorometric measurements of [Na+]i using the Na+-sensitive probe, sodium-binding benzofuran isophthalate (SBFI). Hyperpolarization of spontaneously active dopamine neurons (recorded in current-clamp mode) caused the cessation of action potential firing accompanied by an elevation in [Na+]i. In dopamine neurons voltage-clamped at a holding potential of -60 mV elevations of [Na+]i were induced by long-lasting (45-60 s) voltage jumps to more negative membrane potentials (-90 to -120 mV) but not by corresponding voltage jumps to -30 mV. These hyperpolarization-induced elevations of [Na+]i were depressed during inhibition of I(h), a hyperpolarization-activated inward current, by Cs+. Hyperpolarization-induced elevations in [Na+]i might occur also in other cell types which express a powerful I(h) and might signal lack of postsynaptic activity.  相似文献

Methyl oct-cis-2-enoate was synthesized by selective hydrogenation of methyl oct-2-ynoate at atmospheric pressure with quinoline poisoned palladium as catalyst. The resulting product contained only 7% of thetrans form, as determined by GLC. The structure was confirmed by infrared spectra. Analysis of the infrared spectra is given. The cis andtrans forms of methyl oct-2-enoate were separable by GLC in polar or non-polar columns. GLC runs in polar and non-polar phases showed that the α position of the double bond of methyl oct-2-enoate so affects its properties, that practically no interaction was observed between the double bond and the polar phase. Consequently volatility was the main factor determining the retention times of cis andtrans methyl oct-2-enoate in the polar and non-polar phases studied.  相似文献

Credit scoring modelling comprises one of the leading formal tools for supporting the granting of credit. Its core objective consists of the generation of a score by means of which potential clients can be listed in the order of the probability of default. A critical factor is whether a credit scoring model is accurate enough in order to provide correct classification of the client as a good or bad payer. In this context the concept of bootstraping aggregating (bagging) arises. The basic idea is to generate multiple classifiers by obtaining the predicted values from the fitted models to several replicated datasets and then combining them into a single predictive classification in order to improve the classification accuracy. In this paper we propose a new bagging-type variant procedure, which we call poly-bagging, consisting of combining predictors over a succession of resamplings. The study is derived by credit scoring modelling. The proposed poly-bagging procedure was applied to some different artificial datasets and to a real granting of credit dataset up to three successions of resamplings. We observed better classification accuracy for the two-bagged and the three-bagged models for all considered setups. These results lead to a strong indication that the poly-bagging approach may promote improvement on the modelling performance measures, while keeping a flexible and straightforward bagging-type structure easy to implement.  相似文献

This article proposes an analytical algorithm for predicting errors in lock-in amplifiers (LIAs) working with time-varying reference frequency. Furthermore, a simple method for correcting such errors is presented. The reference frequency can be swept in order to measure the frequency response of a system within a given spectrum. The continuous variation of the reference frequency produces a measurement error that depends on three factors: the sweep speed, the LIA low-pass filters, and the frequency response of the measured system. The proposed error prediction algorithm is based on the final value theorem of the Laplace transform. The correction method uses a double-sweep measurement. A mathematical analysis is presented and validated with computational simulations and experimental measurements.  相似文献

Paraguay is very rich in hydropower and a net importer of fossil fuels. Besides, in Paraguay, the transportation sector counts for a big share of the total energy demand. So if this sector would be changed to clean fuel, imported oil dependence and air pollution will be reduced dramatically. This paper assesses the feasibility of HFC urban buses implementation in the transportation sector in Paraguay. In general, annual transportation cost for a fleet of 55 HFC urban buses is estimated in US$ 33,682,581 compared with US$ 40,612,741.84 for diesel urban buses, which indicates that this technology could be an economical and environmentally clean alternative to substitute diesel urban buses in the Paraguayan transportation sector. These results are strongly linked to the chosen boundary conditions, such as electricity price and availability, the electrolytic hydrogen demand and the basic electrolyser's management.  相似文献

The objective of this study is to evaluate different methods to obtain Pt (20 wt%)/carbon electrocatalysts, in order to identify the conditions that lead to electrocatalysts with the best electrochemical performance. This paper involves the study of different methods for the deposition and reduction of H2PtCl6 on three carbon supports: Vulcan carbon, Multiwall carbon nanotubes and mesoporous carbons. The deposition–reduction methods in liquid phase were carried out with HCOOH or NaBH4 as reducing agents. Besides, the conventional impregnation was carried out by deposition of H2PtCl6 on carbon followed by a reduction with H2 at high temperature. The electrochemical performance of supported Pt catalysts prepared by reduction in liquid phase is strongly dependent on the metallic dispersion, the particle size distribution and the nature of the carbonaceous material used as a support. Results show that the deposition–reduction method using HCOOH 0.3 M at 50–60 °C and a mesoporous carbon leads to the most efficient electrocatalyst.  相似文献
