In-service fracture of helicopter windshields was studied. Simulated catastrophic fracture tests were conducted by firing alumina and steel spheres onto stationary tempered and as-received glass panels. The results were studied by Hertzian analysis and modified Auerbach's relations. Thermally tempered glass shows much higher impact resistance than that estimated from superposition of residual stresses. Subcritical impact sites exhibit slow crack growth in tempered plates, eventually leading to fracture of the entire plate. 相似文献
The traditional Yemeni window is considered to be one of the most important elements that characterize the yemeni architecture. The beauty of the traditional Yemeni window comes from its four main components which combined the functions of view, lighting, ventilation, protection, and privacy. These functions can be controlled by the occupants according to their social and environmental needs. The four main components are the lower part (Taqah), the fanlight (Qamariyah), the wooden external overhang (Konnah), and the small vent (Shaquos). Since fanlights provide natural lighting during day-time, the area of the lower part can be reduced and its exterior shutters can be closed without the need for artificial lighting. The internal natural lighting that is provided by the upper and lower parts of the window was investigated to see its quality. In this investigation, there were two main goals. The first is the contribution and quality of the internal light provided by the Qamariyah when shutters are closed. The second is the effect of the internal simple white cloth curtains, in the lower part, in the internal light quality. Visual measurements were taken in a typical room of a traditional house of the Old City of Sana'a, Yemen. From the findings, it was found that the fanlights (Qamariyat) provide low and soft homogeneous internal lighting which was as low as 22 lux average. However, the occupants have the ability to increase level of lighting to as high as 600 or 700 lux. This can be done simply by deciding which shutter to open and how many of them to be opened. The problem of arbitrarily incident plane-wave scattering from rod structures of thick conducting plates arranged with two-dimensional (2D) periodicity has been examined. The square approximation as well as truncated-square approximation of circular cross sections is used in this study. The impedance of cascaded screens and the reflection coefficient is calculated using the multimodal variational method for both TE- and TM-polarized incident electric field. The 2D periodic structure of holes described in this paper can be used for the purpose of designing new guiding microwave structures. A transverse resonance method is applied to solve this problem. In this paper,an adaptive control scheme is introduced for permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs)as an alternative to classical control techniques.The adaptive control strategy capitalizes on the machine’s inverse dynamics to achieve accurate tracking by using an observer to approximate disturbance in the form of friction and load torque.The controller’s output is then fed to a space vector pulse width modulation(SVPWM)algorithm to produce duty cycles for the inverter.The control scheme is validated through a set of simulations on an experimentally validated PMSM model.Results for different situations highlight its high speed tracking accuracy and high performance in compensating for friction and load disturbances of various magnitudes. 相似文献
We present a process to automatically generate three-dimensional mesh representations of the complex, arborized cell membrane surface of cortical neurons (the principal information processing cells of the brain) from nonuniform morphological measurements. Starting from manually sampled morphological points (3D points and diameters) from neurons in a brain slice preparation, we construct a polygonal mesh representation that realistically represents the continuous membrane surface, closely matching the original experimental data. A mapping between the original morphological points and the newly generated mesh enables simulations of electrophysiolgical activity to be visualized on this new membrane representation. We compare the new mesh representation with the state of the art and present a series of use cases and applications of this technique to visualize simulations of single neurons and networks of multiple neurons. 相似文献
Significant growth of multimedia content on the World Wide Web (or simply ??Web??) has made it an essential part of peoples lives. The web provides enormous amount of information, however, it is very important for the users to be able to gauge the trustworthiness of web information. Users normally access content from the first few links provided to them by search engines such as Google or Yahoo!. This is assuming that these search engines provide factual information, which may be popular due to criteria such as page rank but may not always be trustworthy from the factual aspects. This paper presents a mechanism to determine trust of websites based on the semantic similarity of their multimedia content with already established and trusted websites. The proposed method allows for dynamic computation of the trust level of websites of different domains and hence overcomes the dependency on traditional user feedback methods for determining trust. In fact, our method attempts to emulate the evolving process of trust that takes place in a user??s mind. A nanostructured Pd-Cr catalyst was deposited on a supported carbon surface using the modified borohydride reduction method for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) to be utilized as an efficient catalyst in the proton-exchange membrane fuel cell. The crystal structure and feature nanostructure of the Pd-Cr@carbon were established through the use of X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Meanwhile, its catalytic activity was studied using the cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical polarization techniques. Based on the XRD analysis, it was observed that the Pd phase with the fcc crystal structure was dominant, while the Pd-Cr phase with tetragonal crystal structure was detected only for the as-prepared sample and samples calcined at 573 K. The estimated average crystallite size of the Pd phase increased from 9.66 to 37.54 nm as the calcination temperature increased to 973 K, and the calcination time had a slight effect on the crystallite size. On the other side, the average crystallite size for the formed Pd-Cr phase slightly increased from 43.74 nm for the as-prepared sample to 44.90 nm for the sample calcined at 573 K for 3 h. The TEM examination revealed the uniform distribution of the Pd and Pd-Cr nanoparticles upon the carbon surface. The calcination temperature and time played an important role in controlling the structural and morphology parameters of Pd-Cr@carbon. The adsorption/desorption potentials were found to be dependent on the calcination temperature and time and hence the particle and crystallite sizes. The optimum ORR activity and chemical stability were observed for samples calcined at 773 K for 3 h.
The quantitative investigation of the radical scavenging properties of polyaniline (PANI) upon reaction with excess of the stable DPPH radical (a 4:1 ratio of DPPH to aniline units in the polymer) was carried out using 15N and 13C solid state NMR spectroscopy. During the process the polyaniline was oxidised so that the imine content increased from 45 to 65%. The extent of oxidation measured by NMR was confirmed by N1s XPS analysis. However, within a 30 min reaction time, about 85% of the DPPH radicals were scavenged as monitored by the decay in its EPR signal. This is about 20 times greater than the fraction of DPPH required to oxidize PANI from an imine content of 45-65%. An identification of further redox processes is required to explain the high degree of radical scavenging. At the same time, there was no evidence of significant chemical binding or trapping of DPPH in the PANI structure. 相似文献
