Density-functional theory has been used to determine the ground-state geometries and electronic states for homonuclear transition-metal trimers constrained to equilateral triangle geometries. This represents the first application of consistent theoretical methods to all of the ten 3d block transition-metal trimers, from scandium to zinc. A search of the potential surfaces yields the following electronic ground states and bond lengths: Sc3(2A1',2.83 A), Ti3(7E',2.32 A), V3(2E",2.06 A), Cr3(17E',2.92 A), Mn3(16A2',2.73 A), Fe3(11E",2.24 A), Co3(6E",2.18 A), Ni3(3A2",2.23 A), Cu3(2E',2.37 A), and Zn3(1A1',2.93 A). Vibrational frequencies, several low-lying electronic states, and trends in bond lengths and atomization energies are discussed. The predicted dissociation energies DeltaE(M3-->M2+M) are 49.4 kcal mol(-1)(Sc3), 64.3 kcal mol(-1)(Ti3), 60.7 kcal mol(-1)(V3), 11.5 kcal mol(-1)(Cr3), 32.4 kcal mol(-1)(Mn3), 61.5 kcal mol(-1)(Fe3), 78.0 kcal mol(-1)(Co3), 86.1 kcal mol(-1)(Ni3), 26.8 kcal mol(-1)(Cu3), and 4.5 kcal mol(-1)(Zn3).  相似文献

The incoming radiation can be linearly or circularly polarized, thus carrying linear and angular momenta. The objects are matched dipoles in several configurations and a metal sphere. Quadrupole magnetic flow sorting (QMS) is being adapted from the separation of suspensions of single cells (<15 μm) to the isolation of pancreatic islets (150–350 μm) for transplant. To achieve this goal, the critical QMS components have been modeled and engineered to optimize the separation process. A flow channel has been designed, manufactured, and tested. The quadrupole magnet assembly has been designed and verified by finite element analysis. Pumps have been selected and verified by test. Test data generated from the pumps and flow channel demonstrate that the fabricated channel and peristaltic pumps fulfill the requirements of successful QMS separation.  相似文献

Cluster analysis and principal components analysis have been used to classify nine octadecyl (C18) high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) columns into three general groups displaying similar chromatographic behaviour. Principal components analysis was also able to identify the key test compounds on which the classification was most highly dependent. These identifications agreed with the classification and test compound selection by an HPLC specialist. In addition, the chemometric techniques can easily be extended to many more columns and test measurements than could be conveniently examined by a human expert.  相似文献

From a subtracting cDNA library constructed from normal liver versus human primary hepatic cancer (PHC) a cDNA clone pG8 was isolated. Using it as a probe, RNA extracted from one human liver and 9 PHC samples were analyzed by Northern hybridization. As expected, its mRNA was highly expressed in liver; however, the expression was strikingly suppressed in PHC. Only weak signal was observed in 2 out of 9 PHC, while no signal was detectable in the other 7 samples. Utilizing pG8 as a probe, DNA from the same PHC specimens was analyzed after MspI digestion and Southern hybridization. Deletion of DNA fragment was observed in 4 out of 9 samples. In further study of cancer and non-cancerous liver from other 7 PHC patients, similar deletion of DNA fragments in cancer was observed in 4 out of 7 samples. After sequencing of the clone of 572 bp, it was unexpectedly found that pG8 was completely homologous to the coding sequence of transthyretin, TTR gene, as TTR (or prealbumin) gene has been known to be linked to a hereditary disorder, familial amyloidosis (FAP), and related to thyroxine transport and binding to retinol-RBP (the retinol binding protein) complex. This is the first report of a study on TTR in human primary hepatic cancer. Since TTR gene was strikingly suppressed in mRNA expression and possibly defective in its gene structure, it was strongly implicated that TTR might be an important gene marker or a candidate of anti-oncogene for human PHC. This case report is a unique presentation of a new potential indication for Gadofosvest (Ablavar), a blood pool contrast agent for magnetic resonance angiography (MRA). Ablavar is an excellent MRA contrast agent because it provides optimal contrast opacification of both the arterial and venous system, unlike the conventional extracellular agents that are used for arterial imaging only. The present case report demonstrates the ability of Ablavar to demonstrate pulmonary arteriovenous malformation (AVM), showing both its arterial feeders as well as its venous drainage tract.  相似文献

A unique burner was constructed to experimentally realize a one-dimensional unstrained planar non-premixed flame, previously considered only in idealized theoretical models. One reactant, the fuel mixture in the current experiments, is supplied through a porous plug at the bottom of the combustion chamber and flows vertically up towards the horizontal flame. The crux of the design is the introduction of the oxidizer from above in such a way that its diffusion against the upward product flow is essentially one-dimensional, i.e., uniform over the burner cross-section. This feature was implemented by introducing the oxidizer into the burner chamber from the top through an array of 625 closely spaced hypodermic needles, and allowing the hot products to escape vertically up through the space between the needles. Due to the injection of oxidizer through discrete tubes, a three-dimensional “injection layer” exists below the exit plane of the oxidizer supply tubes. Experimental evidence suggests that this layer is thin and that oxidizer is supplied to the flame by 1-D counterdiffusion, producing a nearly unstrained flame. To characterize the burner, flame position measurements were conducted for different compositions and flowrates of H2–CO2 and O2–CO2 mixtures. The measured flame locations are compared to an idealized one-dimensional model in which only diffusion of oxidizer against the product flow is considered. The potential of the new burner is demonstrated by a study of cellular structures forming near the extinction limit. Consistent with previous investigations, cellular instabilities are shown to become more prevalent as the initial mixture strength and/or the Damköhler number are decreased. As the extinction limit is approached, the number of cells was observed to decrease progressively.  相似文献

Recently, it has been proposed that ab initio calculations cannot accurately treat molecules comprised of a benzene ring with a pi-conjugated substituent, for example, benzaldehyde. Theoretical predictions of the benzaldehyde barrier to internal rotation are typically a factor of 2 too high in comparison to the experimental values of 4.67 (infared) and 4.90 (microwave) kcal mol(-1). However, both experiments use Pitzer's 1946 model to compute the reduced moment of inertia and employ the experimentally observed torsional frequency to deduce benzaldehyde's rotational barrier. When Pitzer's model is applied to a system with a nonconjugated functional group, such as phenol, the model and theoretical values are in close agreement. Therefore, we conclude the model may not account for conjugation between the substituent and the pi-system of benzene. The experimental values of the benzaldehyde rotational barrier are therefore misleading. The true rotational barrier lies closer to the theoretically extrapolated limit of 7.7 kcal mol(-1), based on coupled cluster theory.  相似文献

Recent experimental investigations have demonstrated that the appearance of particular cellular states in circular non-premixed jet flames significantly depends on a number of parameters, including the initial mixture strength, reactant Lewis numbers, and proximity to the extinction limit (Damköhler number). For CO2-diluted H2/O2 jet diffusion flames, these studies have shown that a variety of different cellular patterns or states can form. For given fuel and oxidizer compositions, several preferred states were found to co-exist, and the particular state realized was determined by the initial conditions. To elucidate the dynamics of cellular instabilities, circular non-premixed jet flames are modeled with a combination of three-dimensional numerical simulation and linear stability analysis (LSA). In both formulations, chemistry is described by a single-step, finite-rate reaction, and different reactant Lewis numbers and molecular weights are specified. The three-dimensional numerical simulations show that different cellular flames can be obtained close to extinction and that different states co-exist for the same parameter values. Similar to the experiments, the behavior of the cell structures is sensitive to (numerical) noise. During the transient blow-off process, the flame undergoes transitions to structures with different number of cells, while the flame edge close to the nozzle oscillates in the streamwise direction. For conditions similar to the experiments discussed, the LSA results reveal various cellular instabilities, typically with azimuthal wavenumber m = 1–6. Consistent with previous theoretical work, the propensity for the cellular instabilities is shown to increase with decreasing reactant Lewis number and Damköhler number.  相似文献
