Anisotropic friction model of DNA electrophoresis in polymer solutions: Comparison with direct observations

The electrophoresis of DNA chains in uncrosslinked polymer solutions with a Brownian dynamics simulation with an anisotropic friction tensor was analyzed. According to the degree of anisotropy, three types of migration behavior are obtained: fluctuation without or with periodicity between U‐shaped and compact conformations, or migration with linear conformation. We found good agreement between our simulation results and the direct observations of DNA by fluorescence microscopy. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polymerization of 1,3‐dienes with functional groups. III. Free‐radical polymerization of N,N‐diethyl‐2‐methylene‐3‐butenamide

Free‐radical homo‐ and copolymerization behavior of N,N‐diethyl‐2‐methylene‐3‐butenamide (DEA) was investigated. When the monomer was heated in bulk at 60 °C for 25 h without initiator, rubbery, solid gel was formed by the thermal polymerization. No such reaction was observed when the polymerization was carried out in 2 mol/L of benzene solution with with 1 mol % of azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as an initiator. The polymerization rate (R_p) equation was R_p ∝ [DEA]^1.1[AIBN]^0.51, and the overall activation energy of polymerization was calculated 84.1 kJ/mol. The microstructure of the resulting polymer was exclusively a 1,4‐structure where both 1,4‐E and 1,4‐Z structures were included. From the product analysis of the telomerization with tert‐butylmercaptan as a telogen, the modes of monomer addition were estimated to be both 1,4‐ and 4,1‐addition. The copolymerizations of this monomer with styrene and/or chloroprene as comonomers were also carried out in benzene solution at 60 °C. In the copolymerization with styrene, the monomer reactivity ratios obtained were r₁ = 5.83 and r₂ = 0.05, and the Q and e values were Q = 8.4 and e = 0.33, respectively. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Direct observation of chemical oscillation at a water/nitrobenzene interface with a sodium-alkyl-sulfate system.

The oscillation of the interfacial tension and electrical potential at a water/nitrobenzene interface was observed with homologous anionic surfactant molecules, sodium-alkyl-sulfates. Concerning small molecules with a short hydrophobic carbon chain, the oscillation period and amplitude decreased with a decrease of the length of the alkyl chain. On the other hand, when surfactant molecules with a long hydrophobic carbon chain were used, no remarkable periodic oscillation occurred after the first oscillation. In all systems, an interfacial flow by Marangoni convection was observed when the oscillation took place. By monitoring the movement of carbon powder scattered on the liquid/liquid interface with a CCD camera, we could observe that the liquid/liquid interface expanded outward from the area on which the surfactant molecules adsorbed when the oscillation occurred. When the small molecule was used, the speed of expansion of the interface (flow speed) was small and shrinkage followed by expansion of the interface repeatedly occurred. However, when the large molecule was used, the flow speed was large and expansion occurred only one time. These results show that hydrodynamic factors and surface activities are important in chemical oscillation systems.     

双奇核188Au的准粒子带结构研究

利用在束γ谱学实验技术, 通过¹⁷³Yb(¹⁹F,4nγ)反应 布居了¹⁸⁸Au的高自旋态, 并对其准粒子带结构进行了研究. 基于实验测量结果, 对原有的双奇核¹⁸⁸Au能级纲图做了较大的修改. 通过系统性比较, 对15⁺以上的能级结构进行了讨论.     

A new route for the construction of the AB-ring core of Taxol

A new method for the construction of the AB-ring core of Taxol was developed utilizing a new skeletal transformation protocol as a pivotal step. The acid-catalyzed rearrangement of the cyclopentenone-allene photoadduct gave a bridged seven-membered ketone, which was easily transformed, using the intramolecular Suzuki reaction and the oxidative cleavage of the vicinal diol, to the bicyclic diketone.     

Development and features of hydro-membrane gas chromatography.

Hydro-membrane gas chromatography (HMGC) is achieved by the annular condensation of water in a capillary column at less than 70 degrees C. The annular membrane of water is formed as a result of the wettability of the stationary phase, which is induced at a water contact angle ranging from 75 degrees to 79 degrees, as derived from a solubility parameter (delta) range of 15.7 +/- 0.3 MPa(1/2) of the coated resin. The range of the liquid to gas volume ratio (beta) required to support the annular membrane should be kept between 0.00005 and 0.0003. In the case of a 0.25-mm i.d. column, the ratio can be set by the combination of a 0.1 to 0.2 microl min(-1) water supply rate and helium gas flow rate. Separation by HMGC develops not only a gas-solid partition but also a focusing effect on the water membrane. One feature of HMGC is that it gives a non-adsorption chromatogram based on the blocking effect of pre-adsorbed water; furthermore, despite the presence of a relatively large quantity of water, the electron impact ionization efficiency is kept the same as in the usual GC/MS condition. The detection limit with the injection of 1 microl of aquatic solution was estimated to be less than 0.1 ppb of low-molecular-weight fatty acids with s/n = 5 on a mass chromatogram at m/z 45. The HMGC/EI-MS system can be applied to the trace analysis of C1 to C3 volatile acids, volatile inorganic acids, and halogenated organic acids in water.     

Applications of inversion formulas to the joint t-universality of Lerch zeta functions

In this paper, we define λ-joint, a^′-joint, (λ,λ)-joint, (λ,a^′)-joint and (a^′,a^′)-joint t-universality of Lerch zeta functions and consider the relations among those. Next we show the existence of (λ,λ)-joint t-universality. Finally, we also show the existence of λ-joint, a^′-joint, (λ,a^′)-joint and (a^′,a^′)-joint t-universality by using inversion formulas.     

A novel pre-shearing technique for measurement of the electrorheological effect of a side-chain liquid crystalline polysiloxane

A side-chain liquid crystalline polysiloxane derivative possessing mesogens was synthesized. The mesogens included a large dielectrically-anisotropic moiety. Phase transition behaviour was investigated and the electrorheological (ER) effect of the polymer considered. No ER effect was observed in non-sheared polysiloxane derivative because of its high inherent viscosity. However, a large ER effect was observed after pre-shearing. Pre-shearing, i.e. shearing with a high shear rate before the measurements, arranges the terminal mesogens in the shearing direction. Furthermore, a dilution of the sample led to a larger ER effect exceeding 10 000 Pa. We thus were able to demonstrate a new approach for the appearance of the ER effect.
