This work investigates the physical-chemical evolution during artificial aging in water of four commercialized sunscreens containing TiO2-based nanocomposites. Sunscreens were analyzed in terms of mineralogy and TiO2 concentration. The residues formed after aging were characterized in size, shape, chemistry and surface properties. The results showed that a significant fraction of nano-TiO2 residues was released from all sunscreens, despite their heterogeneous behaviors. A stable dispersion of submicronic aggregates of nanoparticles was generated, representing up to 38 w/w% of the amount of sunscreen, and containing up to 30% of the total nano-TiO2 initially present in the creams. The stability of the dispersion was tested as a function of salt concentration, revealing that in seawater conditions, a major part of these nano-TiO2 residues will aggregate and sediment. These results were put in perspective with consumption and life cycle of sunscreens to estimate the amount of nano-TiO2 potentially released into AQUATIC environment.  相似文献

It is now well accepted and demonstrated that calcium silicate, calcium aluminate and calcium sulfo aluminate (ettringite, AFm) phases exhibit a good capability to fix metals and metalloids. Unfortunately the role of minor phases and especially calcium-ferric aluminate phase, shorthand C4AF is not well defined. In other systems like in soils or sediments iron phases play a key role in the fixation of pollutant. In cement sorption isotherms, indicated that various metals can be retained by the C4AF hydrated products. Therefore the capabilities of those phase to retain heavy metal should not be neglected. Previous investigations have shown that the minerals formed during the hydration of C4AF are similar to those formed from C3A (pure tri-calcium aluminate) under comparable conditions. Nevertheless no investigation was conducted at the molecular level and there is still a controversy whether Fe substitutes for Al in the hydrated minerals in whole or in part, or if it forms FeOOH clusters scattered throughout the matrix. In this context we have conducted XAS experiments using synchrotron radiation. It was found that the hydration of C4AF forms C3AH6 (hydrogarnet) in which Fe randomly substitutes for Al as well as an amorphous FeOOH phase. Intermediate products like AFm (i.e., an ill organized lamellar phase) are also formed but rapidly evolve to C3AH6; iron does not seem to be incorporated in the AFm structure.  相似文献

A high resolution technique was applied to amniotic fluid cells by synchronization. After inoculation, the cells were incubated for 30 h in the presence of either thymidine or 5-bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU). After removal of the blocking agent and addition of a low concentration of thymidine, the cells were incubated for another 6 1/2–7 h, then harvested in prometaphase without colcemid. This technique gives a mitotic index of 3·7 per cent after thymidine synchronization and of 3·2 per cent after BrdU synchronization, and more than half of the mitoses were in the earlier phases with the chromosomes showing more than 550 bands per haploid set. GBG, GTG, and RHG prometaphases are presented. Precise high-resolution banding of chromosomes of amniotic fluid cells can increase diagnostic accuracy.  相似文献

Mediterranean amberjacks, Seriola dumerilii Risso, were caught off the Pelagie Islands, in the south Mediterranean Sea, between May 1997 and June 1999. Fish blood was sampled, and gonads were collected at 10-day intervals throughout the spawning period and at monthly intervals during the resting period. Concentrations of plasma estradiol-17ß (E2), testosterone (T), 17,20ß-dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one (DHP) and vitellogenin (Vtg) in females; and plasma T and 11-ketoT (11-KT) in males were correlated with changes in gonadal development. The first females that had already ovulated (F5) were found in late May. Most mature females (F4) were caught in June. Post-spawned females (F6) were found from late July until September. Estradiol-17ß was at baseline levels (<0.02 ng ml–1) during autumn/winter and rapidly peaked (6.29±0.68 ng ml–1) from May to early July. Plasma T levels showed a similar profile and were positively correlated to E2 (r2=0.668) during the spawning period. Continuously elevated levels of E2 and T were observed during the spawning season in vitellogenic females (stages F3, F4 and F5). Resting females were found during the autumn/winter months. Vitellogenin levels increased during May and peaked in June, reverting to undetectable levels in August, in parallel with sex steroid changes. Plasma DHP levels peaked in June (283.45±97.3 pg ml–1), falling to basal values (<5 pg ml–1) in August. DHP levels were higher in mature females (F4) than in maturing (F3) and in partially ovulated (F5) females. DHP values increased during germinal vesicle migration, peaked during germinal vesicle breakdown and decreased again during complete oocyte hydration. In males, changes in T and 11-KT plasma levels were related to testis development. The highest levels of T (5.76±2.64 ng ml–1) were measured during spermatogenesis and highest 11-KT (5.28±3.6 ng ml–1) in males with milt, from May to June. This study provides information, for the first time, on the relation between plasma sex steroid profiles and gonad development in wild Mediterranean amberjack, a useful benchmark for broodstock monitoring under controlled conditions.Communicated by R. It is well known that the incorporation of the intergenerational equity objective has turned the traditional Cost–Benefit Analysis (CBA) approach into an obsolete tool for the evaluation of certain types of projects, particularly those exhibiting many environmental externalities and those whose effects extend throughout a long period of time. Two main changes are taking place in CBA in order to adapt this methodology to the sustainable development paradigm: (a) the development of new tools for the economic valuation of environmental externalities that were traditionally left out of the analysis; and (b) an in-depth revision of the theoretical foundations underlying the traditional approaches to discounting, since the repercussions of decisions that are presently being debated will extend to a distant future (in some cases for centuries), whereas in the classical CBA, we deal with few decades at best. This paper aims at investigating the discounting operation in CBA, trying to summarize the main approaches available in the literature, with specific reference to the tools which allow future generations to be included in the analysis. In order to support the theoretical explanation, a real case study is analysed concerning the evaluation of a waste incinerator that has been constructed in the Province of Turin (Italy).  相似文献

Aging in water of a TiO2-based nanocomposite used in sunscreen cosmetics has been studied as a function of light and time. It consisted initially in a TiO2 core, coated with Al(OH)3 and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) layers. Size measurement, coating alteration, and surface charge were followed by laser diffraction, TEM/EDS, ICP-AES and electrophoretic mobility measurement.The nanocomposite rapidly underwent progressive dispersion in the aqueous phase, enabled by the dissolution of the PDMS layer. A stable suspension of colloidal byproducts from 50 to 700 nm in size was formed. Their positively charged Al(OH)3 surface was evidenced with an isoelectric point around 7-8, controlling the dispersion stability. The critical coagulation concentrations measured with NaCl and CaCl2 was 2 × 10−2 and 8 × 10−3 M respectively. The presence of natural organic matter affected the colloidal stability according to the NOM/byproduct ratio. A 2 wt% ratio favored bridging flocculation, whereas a 20 wt% ratio induced sterical stabilization.  相似文献
