The oxidation state, reflected in the oxygen fugacity (fO2), of the subcratonic lithospheric mantle is laterally and vertically heterogeneous. In the garnet stability field, the Kaapvaal
lithospheric mantle becomes progressively more reducing with increasing depth from Δlog fO2 FMQ-2 at 110 km to FMQ-4 at 210 km. Oxidation accompanying metasomatism has obscured this crystal-chemical controlled depth-fO2 trend in the mantle beneath Kimberley, South Africa. Chondrite normalized REE patterns for garnets, preserve evidence of
a range in metasomatic enrichment from mild metasomatism in harzburgites to extensive metasomatism by LREE-enriched fluids
and melts with fairly unfractionated LREE/HREE ratios in phlogopite-bearing lherzolites. The metasomatized xenoliths record
redox conditions extending up to Δlog fO2 = FMQ, sufficiently oxidized that magnesite would be the stable host of carbon in the most metasomatized samples. The most
oxidized lherzolites, those in or near the carbonate stability field, have the greatest modal abundance of phlogopite and
clinopyroxene. Clinopyroxene is modally less abundant or absent in the most reduced peridotite samples. The infiltration of
metasomatic fluids/melts into diamondiferous lithospheric mantle beneath the Kaapvaal craton converted reduced, anhydrous
harzburgite into variably oxidized phlogopite-bearing lherzolite. Locally, portions of the lithospheric mantle were metasomatized
and oxidized to an extent that conversion of diamond into carbonate should have occurred.

Results derived from processing of data of field observations in the epicentral zone of the Altai earthquake of 2003 are presented. Accurate location of aftershocks showed that their spatial distribution is in good agreement with the source rupture outcropping on the Earth’s surface. According to aftershock data, the source had a length of 75 km and a maximum width of 20 km and extended in the vertical direction for 17 km; the displacement in the source averaged 2.5 m. Clusters identified in the aftershock cloud define variously dipping planes. The location of hypocenters by regional, national, and global seismic networks is not accurate enough to examine spatial features of the aftershocks. 相似文献

An experimental parametric study of a novel air-assisted platform-type model called power-augmented ram vehicle is described. The zero-speed regimes of the model over the water are investigated. The recovered thrust, pressure underneath the platform, and the model attitude are recorded for variable system geometry, loading conditions, and propulsor thrust. The stern flap under the model platform provides an effective mechanism for controlling the thrust recovery and the air-jet-induced lift. Unstable behavior of the model is found at sufficiently high levels of the propulsor thrust. 相似文献

The possibilities of a multiangle method of radar diagnostics to determine thickness of an oil film on a sea surface by comparing the radar data with the quantitative modeling results obtained using the model of oil spreading dynamics are analyzed. The experimental results of the remote sensing of the Caspian Sea water area near the Neftyanye Kamni oil field by the Envisat-1 synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and the new Floating Objects Tracking System (FOTS) model of oil spreading are used for the analysis. The model allows to calculate the dynamics and change in the mass and size of an oil slick basing only on the available data of satellite measurements and atmospheric reanalysis.The model takes into account the main processes that influence the slick formation (gravity spreading, advective transport, dispersion, emulsification, turbulent mixing, and evaporation). This model is used to calculate the thickness evolution and dynamics of the displacement of oil slicks in the period between two consecutive radar images of this region (0.5–4 days) and to estimate the volumes of oil spilled in the field. The good consistence of the height of the oil film calculated using radar measurements and the modeling results confirms the method’s reliability. 相似文献

The main characteristics of the PENGUIN-M instrument are given. The instrument has been operating aboard the CORONAS-PHOTON spacecraft (SC) launched into orbit on January 30, 2009. The instrument includes the PENGUIN-MD detector unit (PMD) and the PENGUIN-ME electronic unit (PMD). The purpose of the experiment is to measure the degree of linear polarization of X-ray radiation from solar flares in the energy range of 20–150 keV and to obtain energy spectra of X-ray radiation from solar flares in the energy range of 2–500 keV. The paper describes the instrument, calibration procedure, and in-flight adjustment, and contains the first results of measurements. 相似文献

The main aim of this paper is to search for matter clumps in scales with redshifts z∼1 using a new enlarged version of the
QSO catalogue. This work confirms the evidence of the existence of anomalous spots in the sky, where the Hubble diagram shows
an extreme behaviour, as well as the existence of a spot where there is maximum density of absorbers. In addition to this,
the work also reveals a second anomaly of the same type, though of smaller intensity. An estimate is carried out of the statistical
significance of these anomalies.

Surface dissolution features on diamonds and Fourier Transform Infra Red spectroscopy (FTIR) of phenocrystal and xenocrystal olivines from kimberlites contain a record of magmatic fluid in kimberlite magmas. We investigated composition and behavior of kimberlitic fluid and the effect of volatiles on the eruption style and geology of kimberlites using microdiamonds and olivine concentrates from six kimberlite pipes with different lithologies and the character of diamond resorption (Ekati Diamond Mine, Northwest Territories, Canada). The study showed a clear correlation between the resorption style of diamond population of the kimberlites and the type of infrared (IR) spectra of their olivines. Four kimberlites have high quality diamonds with smooth regular surface features and high H2O content of the olivines indicating the presence of H2O-rich fluid during the emplacement. Fast ascent rates of fluid-rich magma can explain explosive eruption and filling the pipes with volcaniclastic kimberlite facies. Conversely, Grizzly and Leslie kimberlites have diamonds with complex sharp features diminishing diamond quality and indicating loss of the fluid. The slower ascent rates and less explosive eruption of the fluid-free magmas produced kimberlite pipes filled with magmatic facies kimberlite. Distinctive peaks in olivine IR spectra at 3356 and 3327 cm? 1 were found to correlate with the presence of hydrous magmatic fluid. Character of diamond morphology suggests that during the whole ascent of all six kimberlites, the magmatic fluid when present had a high H2O:CO2 ratio. 相似文献

We analyze the sky distribution of various types of cosmic gamma-ray bursts (GRBs): short, long, and intermediate; they are determined by burst duration T 90 (T 90 is the time during which 90% of the burst energy is accumulated). We have found an anisotropy in the distribution of intermediate (2 s < T 90 < 8 s) and short (T 90 < 8 s) GRBs in the form of spots with an enhanced GRB concentration near the Galactic coordinates l=115° and b=30°. Given the BATSE nonuniform exposure function, the statistical significance of the anisotropy is 99.89% for intermediate GRBs and 99.99% for short GRBs. Thus, we suggest that this anisotropy has a natural origin and is not caused by BATSE instrumental effects. 相似文献
