Robust programming aims to prevent abnormal termination or unexpected actions and requires code to handle bad (invalid or absurd) inputs in a way that is consistent with the developer's intent. For example, if an internal error occurs, the program might terminate gracefully rather than simply failing, providing enough information for the programmer to debug the program and avoiding giving the user additional access or information. 'Software defined radio' (SDR) is a technology that will appear in future generations of mobile phones, i.e. following the third-generation mobile phone technology that is currently being defined and developed. Early versions of 'pragmatic' SDR will allow the terminal to be reconfigured at any level of its protocol stack. Ultimately, the 'pure' SDR technology will allow a mobile phone or terminal to have its air interface software configured or reconfigured by other software (or software parameters) that have been downloaded to the terminal, e.g. over the air, or from a remote server via the Internet and one's personal computer (PC). A number of security issues arise with downloaded code that implements the air interface functions, and these may not be obvious simply from looking at the way PC software is updated on-line today. This paper starts with an outline of the code that allows a mobile phone to operate over a particular air interface. This sets the baseline for a discussion of the security issues surrounding the change of this code from one that is fixed and downloaded once only, to code that is reconfigurable during the life of a product.  相似文献

The malignant cells of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) contain a reciprocal chromosomal translocation that fuses the promyelocytic leukemia gene (PML) with the retinoic acid receptor alpha gene (RAR alpha). To test the hypothesis that the chimera PMLRAR alpha plays a role in leukemogenesis, we expressed a PMLRAR alpha cDNA in myeloid cells of transgenic mice. PMLRAR alpha transgenic mice exhibited impaired neutrophil maturation early in life, which progressed at a low frequency over the course of several months to overt APL. Both the preleukemic state and the leukemia could be transplanted to nontransgenic mice, and the transplanted preleukemia could progress to APL. The APL recapitulated features of the human disease, including a response to retinoic acid. Retinoic acid caused the leukemic cells to differentiate in vitro and in vivo, eliciting remissions of both the preleukemic state and APL in mice. Our results demonstrate that PMLRAR alpha impairs neutrophil differentiation and initiates the development of APL. The transgenic mice described here provide an apparently accurate model for human APL that includes clear evidence of tumor progression. The model should be useful for exploring the molecular pathogenesis of APL and the mechanisms of the therapeutic response to retinoic acid, as well as for preclinical studies of therapeutic regimens.  相似文献

This paper considers the behaviour of a two degree-of-freedom autonomous system with static and dynamic friction consisting of two blocks linked by springs on a moving belt. This system is the simplest model which has been used to simulate the dynamics of seismic faults. The friction force is assumed to be a decreasing function of the relative sliding velocity. The motion of the blocks is composed of a uniform stick motion, during which the divergence of the system is zero, and an accelerated slip motion, during which the divergence is positive. The mathematical model by definition concentrates the dissipation on the point where the slip motion ceases. It is assumed that slip occurs only in one direction. A three-dimensional Poincaré map and a scalar single variable map are discussed which characterize the dynamics of the system in a simple way. The one-dimensional map can be used to diagnose the chaotic behaviour of the full system, and quantities, similar to Lyapunov exponents, can be easily calculated which provide information regarding the system-sensitive dependence on initial conditions. The system dynamics illustrate the idea of studying the earthquake generation mechanism as a chaotic phenomenon.  相似文献

The terahertz region of the electromagnetic spectrum, spanning from 100 GHz through 10 THz, is of increasing importance for a wide range of scientific, military and commercial applications. This interest is spurred by the unique properties of this spectral band and the very recent development of convenient terahertz sources and detectors. However, the terahertz band is also extremely challenging, in large part because it spans the transition from traditional electronics to photonics. This paper reviews the importance of this frequency band and summarizes the efforts of scientists and engineers to span the "terahertz technology gap." The emphasis is on solid-state circuits that use nonlinear diodes to translate the functionality of microwave technology to much higher frequencies.  相似文献

The inside cover shows a hexagonal array of convex microlenses etched directly into glass using a reaction‐diffusion process initiated from a hydrogel stamp. The technique, reported by Grzybowski and co‐workers on p. 2004, allows for direct printing of complex microarchitectures into a variety of materials with sub‐micrometer resolution.
